You should have just went and bought a couple Kitty pools and use them to make wheel flares out of seen it on a bronco once it really didn't look that bad
If they would have painted them instead of leaving them blue you probably wouldn't have been able to tell

I bought some of this coating during the last promo for a brand new car with a matte paint job and I absolutely love it. I even had some left over for my Jeep which I'd never have spent $70 waxing it and the mud slides right off of it now. Amazing product and great customer support that replied to my question about it being ok for matte paint within a day

    Just an idea.
Lower the frame by adding some tube in a ladder type configuration below the stock frame.
1). It will strengthen the frame.
2). It will give a lower height.
3). It will act as frame sliders.
4). It can be made as a bolt on removable section.

  • @phillipredfern6461
    @phillipredfern6461 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Snow plow lights for the front mounted under the bumper with integrated turn signals are deemed acceptable for headlight height. For the frame, I've always been measured from the transmission crossmember...even though the law states it can't be removable so it probably depends who's measuring and what their mood is for the day. The mudflaps can't drag when the vehicle is loaded as it is deemed a hazard but that may only apply to commercial vehicles. Utah lift laws are a little convoluted in the states favor.

I think you need to figure out an airbag suspension system, so you can lower it to road height or raise it for off-road from the dash. And get some real exhaust hangers: Those baling wire hangers are going to last a few days before the pipes are flopping around banging on everything. Adding stuff on the bottom of the frame defeats the purpose of getting all that ground clearance. Did you see that beast flex at the Wrecker Games? Far better to modify it so you can just flip a switch, and it goes from street legal to off-road mode. Motorizing the fender flares to go in and out would be amazing. Maybe modify some power window motors?

I think they will come up with a cooler but still legal exhaust. Cops do surprise roadside inspections, and the Laymo is a cop magnet. If you get cited, fix it, remove it, and get cited again the fines are huge. Might even get the vehicle confiscated. The first time is a freebie. Second time shows criminal intent. Not something a good church-going LDS guy would do. The Boss would have his butt.

One either side of the hitch pin on your mud flaps. Cut them in half and put a smaller pipe inside and weld it so you can unpin the pipe and make it two or three pieces and put in the trunk. That way when you are off road. You remove and put in trunk so you do not drag them off.

Here's the solution to the frame problem. Just add another 6 inches to the bottom of the frame. Not sure where the law says that you have to measure, but I would think that the entire frame doesn't have to be a certain height. Example: where the frame goes up over the rear axle.

I wonder if bolting 8" wide rubber strips to the outside of the frame rails so they hang down 6" would qualify as the measurable low points of the frame. When you get time, get two sturdy hitches and move the mud guards under the frame and behind the tires. What you have there now will fatigue crack at some point and then fall off in front of the vehicle behind you.

I think I would have built a 'stiffener' under the Laymo, which would lower the frame height without lowering the rest of the car. To do this I'd run two i-beams lengthwise under the car, with the car itself making up the top flange of said beam.
You wouldn't even lose any ground clearance, since you got the exhaust under it anyway. Also I'd laser cut some holes in the vertical part of the 'I-beam' so it's relatively light.

I know that you will probably never have to make fender flares out of 55 gal tubs again, but I make custom beer keg/ice holders out of them. A little tip, I use a pencil grinder (either a pneumatic one or electric like a Dremel tool) with a nice carbide double cut burr on it. It cuts through those tubs real easily, plus it is easier to make precise cuts.

If you want to maintain your off road ride height, while also maintaining a street legal status for the Laymo, chop those chains, which are causing body flex issues, and can very easily damage the car, then get smaller wheels and low profile tires to lower it for street use. When you get the itch to go off-roading, haul your tires in a trailer (obviously with another vehicle) change tires, have fun, then change tires again to once again to return to being street legal. As long as you're in Utah, get in touch with HeavyDSparks for some advice, he's probably had a lot more experience with issues like this.

Weight has to be over 7500 pounds so frame is 28 inches, not 26. Law says bottom of the frame, let it back to your original height and weld on reenforcement frame panels under the existing frame which then turns those re enforcements into the bottom of the frame that are low enough to pass the 28 inch rule. ….easy way around height limit such as that…..

Define frame: Add reinforcing box under the frame that is about 6" and crushable; who says a frame must be steel? Problem solved.

The frame height thing is why we used to see pickups with 2 frames stacked together. One for the body and one for the suspension.

I'd weld on some reinforcement at the front and rear of the frame so that the lowest point of the frame, aka the BOTTOM of the frame, is at legal height.
If they measure it in the middle, kindly remind them that the frame is not a flat plane and and the middle is a high point and the letter of the law says the BOTTOM, which by definition is the lowest point.

I live in utah. The state actually got rid of safety inspections 3 or 4 years ago. So you can register any thing you want in any condition. The downside is law enforcement can cite vehicles for being unsafe. Then you have to get the inspection done to keep your registration valid

🚔🔥👏 This recent encounter with the law only adds to the rebellious reputation of Hillybillys and their outlaw street culture. While it may be intriguing to some, it's important to question the consequences of glorifying and celebrating illegal activities. How does this behavior impact society and the rule of law? Are there alternative ways to channel their creativity and passion without breaking the law? These questions provoke thought and curiosity about the boundaries between individual freedom and societal responsibility.

You commented about your nut and bolt rack. People will never know just how important one that is well stocked is to a shop. As little as nuts and bolts cost. A person wastes so much time and money looking all around or driving all around to get the right bolts. That is counters the cost of a good bolt rack. I think it is awesome you finally got one.

You can always install electric off-road cut-outs on the exhaust for when you take the Laymo off the street to get your sound back. Also, are you sure the weight is right at 8,200 lbs? If you and your crew were inside the vehicle, your weight is wrong. I also don't trust those bolts holding the chains not snapping after hitting enough bumps. I also do understand the safety issue of headlight height because your incorrect angle blinds oncoming drivers. Solution: put aftermarket headlights under the front push bumper, but do everyone a favor and NOT use those G-D bright blue LED ones that blind everybody on the road. Sure, you can see but those of us heading towards you only see a huge brightness like we're going to meet Jesus...and some blinded people have wrecked and that's why they are strict on headlight angle and height.
