  • Here's a sample of the Ampeg Micro Vr! Thanks to David (Owner of the micro Vr stack). I really liked this amp. The song is From BADBADNOTGOOD/In your eyes. The mics blend was 75% Beta 52 and 25% of a crapy 8M-800 ;)

    Fender cab has a 2 way crossover rolling lots of high mids and treble off out of the woofers. Ampeg cab woofers are full range. These heads played back to back in the same cab would’ve been a more useful comparison! But still, nice video notwithstanding. Makes me want that Ampeg rig, and I already have a Fender 410 Neo and Bassman 800!

    Such a well done and timely video. I was thinking about buying an ampeg but your fender SB is so warm and powerful. I wonder how much the extra 100 watts makes a difference?

    • @SirSparkz

      The difference is tube versus solid state. Those tube amps just have a tone that’s unmatched. Some hybrid class d amps come close, but man, this Super Bassman sounds F.I.N.E. FINE!

      Yeah I just ordered the ampeg head with the cab soon to follow and my worry is that i won’t be able to go from a punk sound to a mellow buttery neo soul/funk tone. I think a lot of it is his playing but it’s great to know that the ampeg is versatile and I can get a deep sound

    I have a Mesa Pulse 600 with a Mesa 1 x 15 powerhouse and a 2 x 10 Hartke. Was looking at downsizing for space but worried about losing tone...is the Micro VR too soft on low end? If not that what do you recommend in the sub 1-1.5k range given that the Bassman is too pricey but gorgeous!

      Lawrence Levinson hummm have you considered The new Traynor YBA-100 or 200? They are about the same amp as Fender are. All tube and not so expensive. Way better than micro VR. (It’s my opinion)

    Very nice tone, the killer I'd say! I prefer the Ampeg, I feel it has more definition. The Fender Bassman is defnitely louder and may sound better with loud volumes because of the tubes, but in terms of microphoned recorded tone, I prefer the little ampegs as their mid/treble are the killer! Both amp sets are gorgeous though and would transform any living room both in terms of sound and aesthetics!

      @jochoui  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are cool / light / affordable. But not so « bassy » you have to cheat on your amp and boost the bass. Nice living-room cab, but for me, it’s a nah. I love my Aguilar 210 4 ohms. Expensive but what I’ve learn from my GAS is the more $ you invest for a cab, better the chance you will keep it afterwards:)

      Also, if you can only have 1 amp what would you buy? My budget is around $1000

    • @jochoui
      @jochoui  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Getting the classic Ampeg tube tone will not be extremely portable. I’m not an Ampeg geek but the V4B might be an option. PF-50T will be more B-15 tone oriented. Yet portable but a bit short on power for medium venues. If I had the choice of only one amp, that would be the Demeter VTBP-MJ-800D. But it’s 2k USD. And it’s more Fender Bassman oriented.

      Yeah for sure! But, that was not the point and an unfair match. (Matter of taste) I do build my own tube preamps. No need for a starved plate design preamp like the Art MP. I’m sure it enhances solid state amp tho….

    • @jochoui
      @jochoui  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@richardk1708 No I don't! I wasn't the owner of the Micro Vr kit, so I did not try all functions. I don't know if the return(effect loop) bypass the internal preamp of the VR? If so, a real tube preamp will sound better in the return jack. Most of tube preamp with starved plate design (wall alimentation power pack with 9-12-18vdc)will do fine in the front of the amp. Tube preamp with 280/+ vdc(B+) will have too much gain in the front input or will be useless since you still use the solid state amplifier's preamp.(most of the time)IMHO
