This reminded me of Hagia sofia and the Blue mosque in Istanbul. They are next to each other, both with their own stories to tell and super breathtaking. Definitely worth a visit
The mosque was not built by prince Muhammad Ali. But was rather built by Muhammad Ali Pasha, the ruler of Egypt at the time & the founder of the Alawiyya dynasty. Prince Muhammad Ali was actually a descendant of his & was the custodian of the throne of Egypt just before King Farouk came to power, as the latter was less than 16 years old by the time his father, King Fouad had died.
