Thank you so much for this! You really helped me out. I've been doing automatic looping, but it's limiting. With your system, I can improvise how the tune takes shape. This is the BEST Ableton looping tutorial on TH-cam !!! Keep up the funkalicious vibes :)
Glad I could help! Giving a shape to a live loop it's exactly what it needs to stand out among all other live loopers: keep it up and let me know in case of doubts/questions/suggestions! -Frank
Hey Rishi! I'll cover it in the next video but you're right, one powerful advantage of live looping inside ableton is that you can quantize inputs. I don't use it since it would affect every MIDI input - included my EWI during solos - but if you want to activate it, you can find it in Edit --->Record Quantization. This feature works *separately* from the Global quantization I described at 6:54 and it affects midi signals, not command signals.
@@jazzcinti Hello, great solo at the end - it's the first time i like the sound of the EWI saxophone, very expressive! Concerning Input Quantization: There has to be a way to automate it , what you think? Maybe there is a max4life plugin for it, so it can be put into only specific tracks, and can be changed on the fly! i will search for it.
@@sternenherz Thank you very much! If you find a way let me know. At now I'm used to quantize it only if really needed, but any research on the topic is always appreciated.
This is a great learners tutorial but you are still using a mpuse and keyboard for quantizing. Is there a method to do quantizing without the mouse or key. Thanks 😊
if you need to quantize after recording the midi notes, the only way is to select the midi roll and ctrl+u or cmd+u. there is no way around that. Unless you mean automatic quantization input, which is another setting which I don't use.
if I understand correctly, you are referring to script looping. check if something like this is useful for your purpose. th-cam.com/video/4TpMLmO_JJc/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=connorshafran
@@LoopConnection no I don’t want to record audio in an automated way to a looper, I want to record actual midi notes into a clip in a pre automated order
because audio instruments cannot be looped in session view: Ableton cannot overdub audio clips, so the only way to loop audio and overdub audio loops is by using the stock plugin.
Nice, first half was like - nice tutorial, but the music ... oh no more of these synths please. But second half fitted my style and I enjoyed lesson and music :)
hey! Live looping with midi clips requires tempo set *before* starting. What you describe is possible only with the *looper plugin* inserted into an audio track and set up to command tempo. - it's a different method of live looping, but still perfectly viable. I'm recording a complete video course just these days, if you are interested keep following our channel for the next updates. -Frank
the pedal is a great idea. im struggling with getting live looping going with just midi. i just want to hit the button and then record a part, hit the button record another part. i dont want to touch the mouse lol. i can sort of get it going with max devices and using vsts, but i really want to use midi to my hardware. I think maybe I just need to submit and buy the push.
hey! as you can see from this video, you don't need the push for midi live looping. If you check my channel, there's a playlist "Frank's past streams" and everything is livelopped on ableton without the push! just a 50$ used akai apc 25 and a 15$ usb footswitch :) Any surface controller under 100 $ is good for the job. novation are good too. So, resist the urge to buy a push. Instead, invest time in learning how to use the session view and all the tricks to loop as I do. If you are interested, I'm recording a new course *exactly about this*, i.e. live looping in ableton session view. we should launch it by end of the month! -Frank

Very very helpful.❤️❤️
What about input quantization?
Thank you so much!
Frank should definetely talk about it in a new video soon!

Small note, in the edit settings you can make ableton automatically quantize everything you play through midi,
Amazing. Thank you!
Looking for a video on overdubbing audio (not midi) in clip view in Ableton. Thanks!
Very good sound and tutorial
Thanks for referring me here! This is insanely useful! :D
you're welcome :)
Thank you so much, please do a video in wich you use both midi and real instrument
This is a great tutorial, very clear to follow!
thanks! Frank is recording a complete lcourse on how to live-loop in ableton, keep following our page for next updates.
thanks frank!
"xcellent! What happens if you make a mistake while recording, you don't have undo mapped (Ctrl Z) or how do you handle it? Thank you very much
you can map ctrl + z to a usb pedal, but what I do is I simply reach for ctrl+z with my left hand. it's muscle memory :)

Awesome video!!
Is it possible get a clip follow action to trigger session record?

in that case, maybe clyphx pro is the only way
Why are you dont use auto-quantized record feature? is it work?
Excellent
Good looking💯
thanks!
CAn you comment on why you feel the looper plugin in Ableton is more suited for audio instruments like guitar and such?
because audio instruments cannot be looped in session view: Ableton cannot overdub audio clips, so the only way to loop audio and overdub audio loops is by using the stock plugin.

Thanks! It's easy to fall into the dark side of synths but I appreciated you enjoyed the final result :) -Frank
how can I put the first loop in WITHOUT listening to the tempo, and have Ableton autodetect and set the bpm?

Thank you but it was very hard to understand because of your accent
sorry for that! feel free to ask if something was not clear
