The Governor was definitely one of the most iconic villains in all of Walking Dead. The comic version was 5 times more brutal but the tv version was cool the way it was.
Wrong. The most brutal and iconic villain will always be Negan, no one will forget Negan's brutality and violence in season 7 episode 1, the best TWD episode and highest ratings ever. The Governor is the good but generic villain and not even close to Negan's level.

In S4 Philip and Rick both want to believe that they can both become who they were before the apocalypse turned them both into killers. Philip realised in S4 E7 that he cannot change and he called him a liar bc Rick was trying to convince everyone they don't have to kill anymore but the governor knows that is not true.
R.I.P to Hershel great character who brought so much love his theme song R.I.P to the actor Scott Wilson who played this character and who sadly passed away from Leukemia 4 years ago Oct 6 2018 Age 76 He was the ultimate voice of reason right next to Dale and R.I.P to the Governor as well who was a great villain and did a great job at making us hate him great work by David Morrissey portraying this character.
Martinez mercy killed Shumphert after he got bitten off screen b4 the gov found their camp so presumably during the days and nights gov spent wandering b4 finding Lilly, Meghan and Tara’s apartment.
Oooooh this one. Hugs to Mom! ☹ (fun-ish) fact, Clara (the woman who led Rick back to her camp) is one of the walkers overrunning the prison at the end. [e] oh and while it could've been anyone who's appeared on the show or someone we never hear about, the simplest explanation for the Liar, Rapist, and Murderer is that they're just another untold story. Presumably Murderer killed Liar and Rapist, probably over his family as seen in the photo next to his corpse, then himself because he couldn't live with whatever events had happened. More important is that Philip saw this as he's struggling to deny or accept his own past, and that nobody reacted much to the situation beyond Pete still seeing them as people when he wondered what had happened, they all just sat down and drank beer because that's the world now. Really well-done episode, so much happens (and doesn't happen) which sets up episodes to come, and I loved getting to see Hershel finally having a frank discussion with Philip, both of them saying what needed to be said. And even though the Governor's inner turmoil seemed manipulative like we're supposed to think he's just misunderstood, I still appreciated the depth of his character as an antagonist instead of him being another generic bad guy.
My favorite midseason finale. I was sad that the Governor had to die because I loved David Morrissey in this role. And Hershel's death waa absolutely heartbreaking.
Rewatching this series with you three has brought a lot of closure to these characters for me. I really enjoy getting to hear the kind things you have to say about them after they’re gone ❤️

I texted my best friend and I was like he’s dead (talking abt Hershel) but my friend liked both of them as did I but he was like I know I can’t believe it rip Governor and I was like bruh I was initially talking about Hershel but yea rip Gov as well. David Morrisey absolutely killed this role as well as Scott Wilson who killed the role of Hershel may Scott Wilson rest in paradise.
My first reaction to Hershel's death .... "That's gonna take a while to recover from ........ " followed closely by "Ahhh I see, awww shit man !" both loved and hated this episode, gov'nor got karma but Big H is dead. Pete's brother got what he deserved, no clean death. Loved Mom's "S.O.B" and Kimmy getting excited. :D
Comic Comparisons : in the comics It’s Tyreese who gets decapitated his comic counterpart is actually introduced much earlier than in the show before they get to the farm the battle for the prison goes down a bit different The Governor is presumed dead for a while before he randomly shows up at the prison gates It should be noted that the Governor never kills all of his people or burns down Woodbury so he still had an army with him him becoming Brian Heriot is completely unique to the show I can’t remember exactly but I think their first attack failed Nonetheless they eventually bust through and kill a lot of people Hershel does die in this battle in the comics but not in the same way He begs to be killed after his son is shot right in front of him and the Governor grants him that Rick tries to escape with Lori and Judith but Lori who is carrying Judith is shot and falls to the ground killing both her and the baby after the Governor successfully wins the prison Lily who was already a member of Woodbury and dealt the killing shot on Lori realizes she also killed a baby and gets mad at the Governor when the Governor shows no remorse she shoots him dead in the head after that nothing more is said about the Woodbury group.
Someone else said it, But the comic version of the governor was straight cruel, and if I recall correctly he had little reason to excuse it, I like how they made a direct contrast with the Tv version, Making him instead slowly devolve into outright cruelty, that despite his best effort it is simply in his nature to be cruel, just like he said, he was too far gone.

I generally prefer the comics. But TV Show made The Governor better. A much more sympathetic, realistic and badass character.

I remember watching this episode and being absolutely devastated by Hershel's death. One of the highlights of the show for sure.
