There's also a major glitch that you can't call audibles in RTG. Or at least I haven't found anyone that knows how to. Coach Trust has absolutely no level that says you'll earn it. I don't wanna be forced to run the ball into a stacked box all the time, it's annoying af
Still too high IMO. a 7.5 is being EXTEMELY kind and I'd go closer to 7 maybe even 6.5 due to broken dynasty. I still appreciate all your work so it's fine to disagree from time to time. Sellout claims are uncalled for. I can understand getting excited and the gameplay is smooth - albeit broken in some areas
It's solid and has certain animations, presentations, and gameplay differences, then Madden. However, it still doesn't match the gameplay, presentation, player animations, commentary, and features of AllPro 2k8. The players trash talk, halftime/postgame reports, dl/ol movement/blocking. Even in this game sometimes your Recievers will catch the ball, while not even turning their heads around before a catch or a RBs leg randomly going through the opposing players body...stupid fuked up shit like that. But for some reason 2k5 (PS2), and 2k8 (PS3) still play better than a game made on next gen. But for now if you're a football fan, you've to settle with EA.

This is a great opportunity for a true turning point in sports games. If EA said, "College football will be released every two years, not yearly," I would be so excited.
Seriously. Just have a roster update. Even if college football was a 5-10 dollar charge to update the roster for the 2026 season and then they’d release the “new game” the year after so college football 27 and charge full price. Quality> Quantity
Since there’s no NCAA licensing it seems like they’ll have the freedom to do that. I think that’s the issue with NBA 2K & Madden, their leagues want a game annually to go along with their season.

@@jdog4673This game is honestly near perfect. They could release a "yearly update" DLC for like $20-$30 that includes any FBS team changes, updated rosters, any field or uniform updates for existing teams, updated bowl sponsors, new commentary, and high school in RTG.

if anyone is wondering, they hired a bunch of people from college football revamped for this. Just as it's always been college football/NCAA feels like a passion project while madden feels like a corporation.
Marketing with NIL helped a ton too. Who didn't wanna watch Shedeur Sanders and others play? The animations were good and the atmosphere (cheerleaders, mascots, marching band which one guy even asked for a copy as his face was in previous games, all those bowl games) is more difficult than the NFL to capture. I also liked the bowling football minigame (10 yard line, strike/spare in 2 shots with yardage for td, but turnovers can't go the other way) from an older game too. Dunno if madden did that.
@@A7X31610 -- it's absolutely insane that instead of having full practices to earn your spot as a starter by running your team's plays, you have to play the same BS minigames over and over and over again. and the wear/tear and stamina system is cracked. can't tell you how many games I've lost and had to replay as RB because I dominated three quarters with 20 touches and then i had to sit the entire 4th Q while my team chokes away a 21 point lead
You’d think with all the money EA has had they would have just developed a specific sports engine for all their different sports games. But nah, they are too lazy for that. “The gameplay is more like the PS3/Xbox 360 era, not the PS4/Xbox One era” This is what sold me. The last Madden and CFB game I played was on the Xbox 360. So hearing that it plays like that era is a big plus for me
That was my immediate thought when I first seen the trailers. My Xbox 1 was damaged so I’ve been playing Madden 25 on 360 and aside from the graphics, the movements & AI are damn near identical. The only issue I see is the horrible defensive pursuit angles.
@@natedoggcata that’s bs because they allow player creation in “Road to Glory” and how is some random person editing rosters to their liking interfering with NIL? Don’t believe the mess EA feeds you. @@williamhumphrey2530 true but considering how bad madden is if everything is good about this besides some blocking, I’ll take it. I might start to watch college football now.
Read option was chanhed to reflect how it works. Holding A to handoff made no sense because in a read option, the RB takes the ball by default unless the QB reads the end man crashing down on the RB, and then pulls it out. So by tapping A to pull the ball away from the RB, it reflects how the play is ran in real life
In my opinion, it's a 5 out of 10. The announcers sound like they're not watching the game. Defense is impossible to play. It feels like luck to get an interception. Offense is very arcade. Feels like this game is "A step in the right direction" kinda game.
NCAA 06 is overcelebrated to me and as good as that game was, 07 was better and then we got 08 and 09 on the PS2. NCAA 12 is really good and I think 13 is what everyone hypes 14 into being. EA knew all they had to do was cover up much of what most of us know about Madden and let nostalgia do the rest. I think they got what they wanted.
@@LenGott8345 ah gotchu, i still really like the game ive been playing it nonstop so the team which worked on this did do well, but there could definitely be more additions we had in previous NCAA games in order to actually make the game that good.
Exactly!!! Then people will be loosing online and getting mad. These issues can’t be ignored and shouldn’t require a patch to fix. Blocking and tackling is football fundamentals. Yet it’s so flawed in the game. EA is just trying to see how much they can get away with. That lets them know how much effort they have to put into the game…
@@damienjackson2but this game’s core fanbase doesn’t care about the online aspect as much. I just hope this game doesn’t become another MTX cash cow for EA in the future, and all of the passion that makes the game so fun for casual players will be removed.
You can adjust your blocking through pre play adjustments and if you misread the defense you get punished just like reality. It’s not really the blocking that’s bad, just you.
@@bigpablo673 that’s also true, I didn’t even mention the fact that the game isn’t really for online competition it’s made for offline playing and building teams/players.
I’ve been having a massive issue on defense where my controlled player freezes, completely stopping me from pursuit or defensive stoppages. It’s not an issue in the slightest on offense, where I can make solid plays. But defense for me has personally been unplayable. Great review man!
@@DCPetterson Objectively incorrect opinion. There is plenty wrong with the game currently that needs fixings (mainly the sim engine, some menu issues, typical bugs). However, the thing most people are agreeing on is that the gameplay is really good. It's fast, fun to play, and challenging.
@Jiiggy-dn8fdI mean that’s definitely an issue they are going to have to work on. But overall the gameplay is fun, fast, and fresh. A bad block here or there might be annoying at times but it’s overshadowed by the other aspects of the game such as the fluidity of player movement and the speed of the ball carrier.
@Jiiggy-dn8fd The blocking is a weak point yes, but if that's one of the few weak points present in the gameplay then how does that mean it sucks overall? I'm of the opinion that 2k5 and 2k8 are the greatest football games ever made and that madden's gameplay has been terrible for years but CFB 25's gameplay is excellent and the best we've had in at least a decade for a football game.
Few other problems with 25 too, option system is broken. Coach AI in RTG is very madden like, dumbest play calling. Even got the madden bug in there with supersim. Your team could be down 1 point and refuse to kick a fg to win the game.
I just think the physics should’ve been way better 100% physics driven system. You don’t see multiple players interacting and colliding with each other once the animation is started you can’t throw another player into it and affect the outcome of the tackle they kind of just stand around, I mean, even if they bump into it, it doesn’t affect it, that’s where physics should have been in the game just like backbreaker football
I really think you missed the mark here, Softdrink. This game is slightly better than madden, but it's still a 5/10 at best. Dynasty/RTG are paper thin for features. Certainly not what was close to promised based on the 17K word deep dive. And gameplay still feels so restrictive and animation-based thanks to frostbite. It's just so janky and I recognize most of the animations straight from madden. I felt lied to by EA directly and so many YT creators. I just really wanted to love it, I even brought my brother's PS5 for it, but I just don''t find it fun at all. I downloaded RPCS3 to emulate NCAA 12 and it's night and day better. It's so fluid and full of features with great presentation.
That’s a good point but we can’t expect a company like EA to go from such a low bar with these maddens to something extremely perfect , that’s unrealistic. I feel like we as a community need to do better at that as well , now I think CFB 25 is the only sports related Ea game that deserves praise in the last few years , and that’s something to be happy about. Hating on it even though it’s a massive improvement just makes your idea of a perfect sports game even more unrealistic

U will be hit nearly every play. Pursuit angles are beyond garbage. There are many bugs in recruiting players ( could be patched soon ) U will see the same 3-4 cut scenes time after time. There are some new things that brings potential and hope to this game. The passing like he mentioned feels fresh being able to have control over it. The wear n tear he mentioned is really cool as well. Player models aren't bad. Pretty much on par for what we been getting. All in all, it's not the worst. But it's not great. There is potential there. But download the free 10 hr trial if still available and experience it yourself before buying it. I normally like this guys reviews. And agree with them. I think Softdrink is right, the better thing for sports games would be a full release every 2-4 years so they can really build up the features and in the meantime roster updates.
The fact that you speak from the point of view for us offline Dynasty players and are enjoying the game day 1 minus big updates (hoping they fix any issues with updates) makes me not worried that I preordered the game and can finally step away from NCAA 14 for my deep dynasty football fix. Thank you for the review brother!
I honestly think giving this game a pass because it’s not a “simulation” sports game is crazy. Where has it been said this isn’t supposed to be a simulation of College Football? Even if it’s not, the issues this game has are not excusable. This game has major issues. The defensive side of the ball is nearly unplayable, for starters.
just like madden, they can't code a corner in an outside third to stay overtop everyone to the strong side of the formation. cheese plays already exist with 1 play bombs against cover 3

They do give updates for scores around the country. Had them do it at least once a game while playing my dynasty, but it is just one single game they will do. Agree with everything else. I feel like people are just so excited to have a college football game again that they are overlooking how shallow the game is outside of the recruiting.
@@kylexile87for real! Features are so boring outside of recruiting and recruiting feels like busy work. Why can’t scenarios be cooler? If recruiting had like an actual interview when you’re scheduled to have a prospect visit that would be amazing but no they couldn’t add that. They couldn’t even bring over features from ncaa 14. And the gameplay is awful if you enjoy passing. Running is fun but passing sucks because of trash o line and knockout animations. Contested catches don’t exist
And the game play is a nightmare. You just gave a better review then SDTV. Bummer, feel like that's an unsub for me, this game needs people to hold it accountable or we're about to see College Madden 26 next year, etc.

I will say that while I think 99% percent of your review is spot on, there is one stadium missing from the game. Clarence TC Ching athletics complex, home of the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors is currently not in the game. There are rumors it’s coming in an update soon but as of this moment, that is not the case unfortunately.
From what I’ve played, at least two Bowl Game stadiums are missing. Fenway Park for the Fenway Bowl, and Chase Field for the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, both of which are Baseball stadiums so I don’t know if there’s some weird licensing issues with the MLB or Sony over them
Bro this is crazy you guys really trying to give this shii a pass just because nostalgia how you gonna start off saying “it may not be the most realistic but that’s ok" but then crucify madden for lack of realism this shii looks just like a madden with a reskin legitimately and not only that you’re limited and based off the gameplay i seen it looked the same as any other madden they just did it in a slightly different way and ik there is a difference between watching and actually playing but all of you content creators dropping and releasing around the same time trying to convince us the game is good makes it look like you guys got paid off if this is your honest opinion then fair enough 🤷🏿♂️but im not seeing what makes this better than madden or prior NCAA games I’ve actually seen a lot of animations that contradicts that statement
People don't crucify Madden for just being "unrealistic". Its criticized for the overall lack of effort put into the game. Terrible and limited game modes, getting rid of features that were in previous installments, shitty animations, glitchy unchanged gameplay, greedy predatory microtransactions, etc. I never really here people complain about Madden being unrealistic. This guy praises the old Maddens all the time, and those games aren't known for their realism. Instead of assuming the game is just like Madden but slightly different, you should ask your parents to buy it for you to judge for yourself. Also, people are reviewing the game around the same time, because it was just recently released. That should be obvious to anyone with a functional brain. Why would EA pay people to review the game positively? The game is gonna sell regardless of reviews just like Madden. People can positively review something without a financial incentive, believe it or not. Doesn't even seem like you watched the whole video, he gives in depth reasons as to why he likes the game and explains why. But hey, you've watched videos of the game so you know better.
Tf you talking about? People hate Madden because of the lack of effort not because of the realism bullshit you're talking about. Plenty people love non realistic games and would rather play fun games rather than realistic. I'd argue NHL 94 is still the best besides 14 and that shit ain't even close to realistic. Also it's college football, id be fucking angry if it isn't Arcady in a sense. Also people actually hate too super realistic games. I saw many people hate Red Dead 2 just because of how slow it is at the start and how you should do every micro thing and I love that game.
You guys both made valid points but im not saying it has to be realistic but for you to be the only simulation football game there should be some form of realism, now if they were making arcade football then that’s a different story it doesn’t matter as much one of the biggest problems I see and hear complained about the most is gameplay you cant throw to a receiver who has a step on their defender, tackling angles are a joke unaware/ retarded CPU, etc. yeah game modes and other shit got taken out but it wouldn’t be as bad if the game was actually good yeah EA is lazy and greedy but we’ve know that for what over a decade? All im saying is dont try to change the narrative now for the sake of nostalgia the it still looks the same and not only that there are bugs smh like every recent installment
I had a pretty big issue with that statement as well especially considering SD has been very vocal about realism. Now all of a sudden arcade style football is ok because it's not the NFL? Naw, missed me with that crap.
I finally realized why they don't have a Longsnapper position, hear me out , imagine checking the top players and a long snapper pops up because he's a 90 ovr or something. And, if they still had the low overalls let's say in the 40's, it will drag the special teams overall down. Just a thought.
Do you know if we will be able to customize our roster with team builder? My biggest issue with the game is I can’t change my players numbers. Edit faces or anything like the old days. Other than that I’m loving it. But that needs to come back like the old days. I take time to create all my players 5 years deep into my dynasty
You and just about every other sports youtuber have been lying through their teeth about this game. I hate when people use the term "shill" all the time, but that's what you are. Years of almost hour long videos on how bad Madden games are only to get a slightly polished Madden and immediately cream yourself over it.
Great review, totally agree that the gameplay is nice but that dynasty outside of recruiting is pretty shallow. Lots of QOL features from '14 were left out (team matchup ratings e.g.), and I wish there was more information about the surrounding landscape of your dynasty. Hopefully the upcoming patch at least fixes the sim stats and results which are totally immersion-breaking.

Don’t patronize me, stop defending mediocre products. I like how you didn’t even attempt to defend how broken coverage is. On the O line and in coverage your players will just run into each other and prevent each other from doing their job, was a probably in madden and it’s still and egregious issues that I can’t believe wasn’t fixed.

@nathan.d.c totally disagree. Who's he ruining the experience for? He's merely pointing out flaws. In fact the same flaws for about 10 years at least.
Long time subscriber and love ya Softdrink, but I have zero idea what game you played. Is it better than Madden? Yeah, it is. But is it a good game? No. No it is not. We encountered the same kickoff bug as Madden twice in the first 2 hours we played. Inaccuracies - Go look at ECU’s stadium. It says Eastern CALIFORNIA all over the place. Wtf? We saw players consistently warping through each other no different than Madden. We saw player’s heads turning completely around backwards on their bodies like they’re from the Exorcist. We saw players TELEPORT 20 yards downfield like they transcended time and space. The blocking is good? WHAT? It’s still atrocious! We saw guys consistently still watching people cross their face and do nothing. We saw lead blockers do nothing but run 20 yards downfield and hit no one. Edge blockers many times ignoring a clear 1 on 1 assignment that would have resulted in big yards only to turn completely backwards and run into their own man instead. AI defensive pursuit angles are inconsistent and completely wrong far too often. And what is up with the customization? Replace a team with a custom one? Enjoy inheriting their rivals. Enjoy their mascot still showing up on your field. Enjoy the cheerleaders and fans holding blank signs. Can’t edit existing players. AT ALL. Sidelines full of the exact same crappy clones as Madden. Dynasty was surprisingly good - except for player progression. Sim forward 3 or 4 years and you’ll see it’s way OP and takes the challenge out of building a team up. I could go on, but that’s enough. The game does play more fluidly. I’ll give it that. Players get sucked into animations far less, but it does still happen. The game is better. That is true. But only marginally so. It feels like a good game is in there somewhere, but there’s still far too much nonsense for it to shine through. Madden 24 to me was a 3/10. This game I’d say is 5/10. Not bad. But not good either. No hate intended. Like I said I’ve watched you for years and always respected how fair and thorough you are. But man, I just don’t get where you’re coming from on this one. If he had to do it over again he would not have pre-purchased. We both feel however it's worth picking up once it goes on sale and it's a solid base to build off of if EA doesn't get lazy and just make it another microtransaction project. I stopped buying Madden at all around five years ago so coming from me that's decent praise. At the end of the day, until they develop a new game engine I think this is about the best we can hope for. @Jmarzx ya man. This game was made to be fun (ps2 era) not as much like madden which I think is great bc I have lost interest in Madden (years ago) I like details and fun but to each his/her own.

The game is a without a doubt a step up from Madden but still isn't anywhere near the caliber of NFL 2K5, APF 2K8 or Madden 2008. Still has many legacy issues present that Madden has and they are big ones in my opinion. It's also just the beginning of playing a new game, you will see the exact same cut scenes over and over again and all that freshness will completely wash away after 10-15 games and having to play against the same top 10 teams repeatedly online. If no NFL simulation football games were released for 10 years and then Madden 25 is released, I am pretty sure the vast majority of people would give it a lot more higher marks than they currently do because of it being released each and every single year. It would seem incredibly fresh and different than the one you played 10 years ago.
Laying it on a little bit thick with the “most fun football gameplay ever” lines. I cannot agree at all with that. I’ve been having fun, but there’s a lot of issues with the game. If this series had been releasing for the past decade I feel like this is just a solid 7/10. It’s definitely a buy for people since we haven’t had a college football game since 2013, but I feel like as people play this more the rose colored glasses will come off. The wear and tear system specifically is just thrown on with no real details to it.
yeah the cpu on my team in RTG cannot make the right running reads and they drop almost every single deep ball that i throw when they’re wide open. but i am playing for northwestern so that might also be a factor 😂
I bought the game based on Softdrink's review. But was disappointed. The game is a carbon copy of madden. It doesn't feel any different to madden at all
Bro it’s literally the same game as madden just with a reskin and some pregame animations. Same tackle animations, predatory ultimate team and it will be a yearly release. People just eating this up because it’s the first proper NCAA game in over a decade.

I was waiting for SoftDrink's review before deciding whether I'd buy CFB25. Needless to say, I think the answer is yes. This'll be the first EA Sports game I've got at full price since Madden 17 or 18, unless you include Super Mega Baseball 4.
Respectfully disagree. The game feels as janky as every Madden we get every year. It took me a couple of games to realize I just wasn't having fun and I got that same feeling when I caved and tried Madden 23 after not buying the game for a couple of years. Luckily I was able to get a get a refund.
EA really sold you with all the bells and whistles. The crowd looks so pathetic when you compare it to games like mlb the show or NPB. Literally ps2 graphics lol. No individual movement in the stands or people walking around on the sidelines? Everyone is completely stand still and it all looks so lifeless. It's 2024. Seriously. A bunch of copy and paste assets and lack of animations. I don't think I've seen one animation while playing this game I haven't seen in madden. It really makes me wonder what they spent all their time on, just getting the nil deals all figured out? The presentation isn't great, the commentating is boring(I was playing with UMD and they were not saying any of my players names? immersion breaking), they show shots of the mascot doing the same animations after every single play or some fans that aren't even actually in the stadium and are just cut scenes. The team openers seem like the only thing they put effort into. Gameplay has tons of the same issues as madden, players phasing through blocks, or the offensive player completely fails to slow them down at all, happens constantly on returns. Wide receivers don't fight for the ball and continue to run their route even after they see the ball has been thrown and there is a defender jumping the route, playing for the ball better than any offensive player. Obvious PI's are not called either, I've had defenders block my receivers and cause incompletions with no flag. Defenders get stuck in place and glitch out. Turn around for no reason. Running game is OP because so many animations have the defender shove the ball carrier forward for 3-5 extra yards rather than attempting to stop their progress. Dynasty and team builder is not great. NIL has EA by the leash. Can't edit players or team ratings. Team rating disparity is a joke leading to a horrible sim engine where it plays more like the NFL than it does CFB. Top 25 teams losing to FCS teams. Sim stats suck. It's like they didn't test it, or they just couldn't do anything to fix it. We can't build teams that have their own history, we over-ride another team and their rivalries and all other things just get passed onto the created team. And you can't use them offline. It's pretty pathetic. They don't even have formation subs. What sim football game doesn't have formation subs. I feel like people who enjoy coaching and scheming this game really lacks in that department when you compare it to other sim sports games that offer more coaching adjustments and other things that immerse you more into the gameplay and force you to use your brain rather than depend on reacting to the AI defense logic and how to exploit it. Not rewarding gameplay, I feel like any big play I have is because of some busted coverage by an AI rather than me scheming something up to beat them. The only positive I see is that we finally can play with our friends with our favorite college teams and players in a video game. The gameplay is arcade-y but the player movement is fun and responsive to make for a good experience while playing with someone besides the AI. EA just make this an arcade game and let someone else attempt to make a sim football game.
Is EA supposed to be patching things and making adjustments throughout the year to fix missing uniform colors and other errors or are they just going to wipe their hands clean and start on 2026?
Wondering the same thing, also what's sup with hearing there's no day to night transitions!!?!? smh that really blows because literally all the crappy Madden games even have that..
The physics piss me off. Too many instances of lineman refusing to block defenders on runs, secondary players ball logic... you could run 150 times in a row and still no bites on play action. Some plays are still worthless to run because they never work..... Is it better than current gen madden? Yes. But is the gameplay significantly better? Not entirely. Still wayyyy too animation based and not physics based.
One the biggest problem with madden is the rules NFL in place. Years ago dynasty mode had alot features but NFL made them take certain things out because it could hurt their image.
I can find fun in Madden to brother. Doesnt mean its a good game. I respect your opinion. I just dont agree. This game is more fun then madden, sure, but it is still fundamentally Madden. It's solid and has certain animations, presentations, and gameplay differences, then Madden. However, it still doesn't match the gameplay, presentation, player animations, commentary, and features of AllPro 2k8. The players trash talk, halftime/postgame reports, dl/ol movement/blocking. Good stuff SDTV! I was waiting for this review. Great detail and review man. I cant wait to get my hands on this game.
I think part of what made this game so good was having some members of the College Football Revamped team on the CFB25 team
just like madden, they can't code a corner in an outside third to stay overtop everyone to the strong side of the formation. cheese plays already exist with 1 play bombs against cover 3
Use the corner yourself tho
@@MidtownMeezus 🤦🏽♂️. You missing the point. You’re not supposed to have to control a corner to get him to do basic coverage responsibilities. The game is supposed to not make them bite at routes real corners wouldn’t bite on.

Those literally aren’t that important to the game
No ESPN license, no studio updates with scores around the country, no halftime scores or stats around college football, can’t see the top 5 coaches with the least Job Security in Dynasty mode, can’t look at stats on the heisman screen, no mass substitutions, can’t look at team stats screen that showed leading rusher, passer and receiver. Can’t see toughest places to play. Can’t see coaching carousel new hires. All of these was in 14.
They do give updates for scores around the country. Had them do it at least once a game while playing my dynasty, but it is just one single game they will do. Agree with everything else. I feel like people are just so excited to have a college football game again that they are overlooking how shallow the game is outside of the recruiting.
Shhhhhh.
You aren’t supposed to say that part.

Hopefully the upcoming patch at least fixes the sim stats and results which are totally immersion-breaking.

If he had to do it over again he would not have pre-purchased. We both feel however it's worth picking up once it goes on sale and it's a solid base to build off of if EA doesn't get lazy and just make it another microtransaction project. At the end of the day, until they develop a new game engine I think this is about the best we can hope for.
Good points. People aren't being rational.
Laying it on a little bit thick with the “most fun football gameplay ever” lines. I cannot agree at all with that. I’ve been having fun, but there’s a lot of issues with the game. If this series had been releasing for the past decade I feel like this is just a solid 7/10. Amazing review! I put CFB 25 on my wishlist! I am absolutely amazed by what EA has done!
The game isn’t good stop shilling.
Why can't games be released in a polished state. There are way too many bugs for it to be defended. They must've started testing a month ago.
i cant believe im watching a video like this rn, this amount of praise is insane
My grade would be slightly better then any Madden the last decade lol
Again, respect bro. Glad you're getting more out of this then i am
Man for me NCAA 13 was my first football video game and I loved it to death so to see college football 25 do so well and be good is amazing to me
Same
Your endorsement is the only reason I am buying this game.
Bro saw a different name and actually thought he was playing a different game. EA needs to be studied for this placebo trick they did to you guys. The gameplay is madden with slightly improved movement and ball trajectory. Horribly bugged and barebones game modes too.
@@Matttheman7 What kind of Skip Bayless take is that?
nailed it.
I didn’t agree with a lot you said but that’s alright. Enjoy the game
Phenomenal review/video! 👏🏾
