    You keep mentioning how good their pitching development is but they never say why. You just say look at the job Niebla has done. Then you question the dodgers pitching development asking who they developed apart from Walker Buehler as if the dodgers don’t sign pitchers that struggled heavily and become elite bullpen arms.

      Trophies won't make any difference. Ohtani, Yamamoto, Darvish, and Sasaki all know each other personally. Sasaki doesn't need an official in-person meeting with any of them...because he can just LINE them 24/7 for advice. Why do you think the Rangers and Cubs are in the list of teams? That's Darvish's input. Why do you think Sasaki has handed out "homework" to each team interested in him, or why he refused active players getting involved in the meetings? That's based on Ohtani's experience in the team selection process.

      You can turn that argument against the Dodgers, too. The Dodgers decided to go all out and break the bank this year. The way MLB works is that sure get taxed by going home ver the threshold but every year that follows the tax gets higher and higher until the team drops below that threshold set by MLB each year Because of the Dodgers big signings this year the Dodgers will be frozen and unable to spend again for many years to come.
      Does Sasaki want to commit to that, a team that blew its wad this year and can't spend again for at least the next 4 years no matter if injuries and bad performances hit?
      Well, actually the Dodgers could still spend, but the penalties would be enormous.

    • @KCiAzN

      @@tonysu8860you just answered your own question. They are already paying max penalties this year and they are still willing to sign Blake Snell, Teoscar, Comforto, Edman. The padres aren’t paying anywhere near the penalties Dodgers are paying and they are already looking to cut payroll. One team is clearly more determined to put a winning product out. One team has 8 billion in tv revenue, hedge fund owners willing to invest, Ohtani contract that’s deferred and generating additional income and the other team has ownership looking to cut payroll and no tv deal.

    How many endorsement deals in Japan has Yu received? I think LA offers more access to Japanese market. The number of Japanese companies flooding LA is unreal. And they even have an airline with exclusive flights to Dodgers games. Not to mention they can sell Roki on starting one of their opening day games in Japan against the Cubs.

    • @yo2trader539
      @yo2trader539 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Starting pitchers only appear once a week in Japan, so they never receive as many sponsorships as top batters. Ohtani is an unusual case and was super famous since high school, so he was making around US$ 30mn in endorsements, advertisements, and media appearances when he was already 23 years old before moving to the Angels.
      Ohtani now reportedly earns US$ 60mn plus in endorsements alone due to his unique status as a 2-way player and enormous popularity. Most Japanese fans are Ohtani fans and not that of the Dodgers or Angels. Hypothetically, if Ohtani were playing for another team in NYC, Dallas, Chicago, Seattle, or San Diego...I don't think his commercial value would change a bit. All the Japanese media attention and sponsorships on the Angels, just shifted towards the Dodgers when Ohtani chqnged teams.

    • @jdsthird
      @jdsthird หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @ The Dodgers and Ohtani have brought in far more sponsorships and endorsements than Ohtani ever had with the Angels. Two different franchises with very different marketing capabilities. A Japanese airline exclusively sponsors flights to Dodgers games from Japan. That wasn’t happening when he was with the Angels. It’s undeniable the return on investment is astronomical with the Dodgers. They made more than Angels ever did. Franchises matter.

    • @yo2trader539
      @yo2trader539 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jdsthirdYou're confusing the Dodgers and Ohtani. JAL has a sponsorship with Ohtani. If he were in NYC, it will still be the same.

    • @jdsthird
      @jdsthird หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ No I’m not. And I’m not referring to JAL. It’s another Japanese airline and they have this specifically for the Dodgers. The Dodgers have added many sponsorships within the past year that the Angels never had. You are not separating Ohtani’s endorsements from Dodgers sponsorships. There is a difference and the franchise absolutely matters. The Dodgers had fans in Japan separate from Ohtani. Goes back to the days of Nomo and others. There is a rich history there. It’s a fact that the Dodgers are making tons more revenue with sponsorships than the Angels ever did.

    • @yo2trader539
      @yo2trader539 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jdsthirdYes, the Dodgers have benefited financially from having Ohtani.
      The question is Ohtani's commercial value, which has nothing to do with him being in one team or another. His endorsement cost was about US$ 2 to 3 mn when he was 23 years old in Japan. During the final year with Angels, it was reportedly about 6 to 7 million per company. He is said to restrict the number of companies that he gets involved with, and there has been a waiting list for years by Japanese companies. His popularity in Japan isn't because he's playing for the Dodgers.

      In case you don't know, all the top Japanese pitchers highly respect Darvish not just because he was an elite pitcher in Japan, but also because always shares his knowledge and experiences. Senga and Ohtani also trained with Darvish during off-season when they were younger in preparation for their MLB transition.
      In facr, it was Ohtani who personally asked Darvish to participate in the 2023 WBC Japanese national team. Darvish was the de facto pitching coach of the team. I see a lot if comments here saying the Dodgers spend and the Padres aren't, even cutting payroll.
    I'm surprised to see so many ignorant how MLB works
    Every team is constrained by the luxury and competitive thresholds No matter how much money any tem makes, they're limited to the same player payroll and few teams go above thise threaholds anymore. The Yankees used to regularly go over but no more. Boston ysed to go over but ni more
    The point is, teams can choose to overspend but the penalties hit hard if a team stays over consecutive years so generally every team wants to spend up to close to the threshold but not go over.
    Because of the Ohtani signing, the Didgers have decided to go over for the next few years so it looks like it's in fir a penny, it's in for a pound. The Dodgers are going to soend like crazy early but it can't last and will see gradual belt tighteng every year starting next year until they're back under in 5 years or sooner.
    The Padres on the other hand are one if the handful of teans that are making enough money to spend all the way up to the threshold but as a matter of policy are staying under, thereby not wasting fans' money by being penalized. If the Padres can shave several million before the season starts, then there's flexibility to cover injuries and maybe do a mid season trade deadline signing
    That's what Roki will be considering Are the Dodgers making the right decision that could blow up in their face if one or more signings turn out badly or is the Padres organization run better with the flexibility to address needs mid season to get to the World Series?
