He seems like he was such a sweet, genuine person. He deserved so much better than the hand he was dealt and it's such a shame that he never managed to find everything he was looking for. I hope we're all reincarnated when we die just so that he has a second chance at it all. I hope he's out there living a happy, clean life full of love and support.

witch disco I understand what you’re saying. The Bible is more than just a good story. It’s a reliable collection of historical documents, written down by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses, and they report to us supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies, and claimed that their writings are divine rather than human in origin. The Bible is God.

Layne was such a sweet and humble beautiful person, so full of talent and humility. You can hear in his voice just how shy and unsure of himself, he was human just like the rest of us with insecurity and low self esteem, sweet shyness. People make the choice to do drugs, but they don't choose addiction. I think especially with heroin, most cannot walk away from it. It is really sad, it isn't who Layne was. He had a lot more to give this world, but he couldn't stop the drug use. I am sure he knew what was happening but just couldn't stop. Layne was so talented and his music an voice will live on forever!

LeeAnn20008 I think as a young guy (or girl) who suddenly goes from living in a crowded studio room as a starving artist to make it,Then suddenly catapults to fame, where everyone is handing you drugs, sex, everything else, you get caught up in the excitement of it, and you never think addiction will happen to you. Your pressure, whatever. Almost all rock musicians are addicted to drugs or alcohol or used to be. A lot of it comes with the territory for whatever reason. I think also, as some rockers have said, when they go out on the road and have been gone from their homes and families for a long time, they get lonely, and the drugs become a comfort to them, so get used to being on while performing, and then they begin to rely on it in by that point it’s almost impossible to quit.
This is my perspective, but I do know several famous musicians and have heard many stories, and there seems to be the central theme of most of it.
And yes, Layne did know what he was doing would probably never stop, but again when you get to that point, your body is so dependent on it, it doesn’t matter what your mind or heart says. You would do anything just not to be dope sick
As Anselmo said in his famous Loyola speech, trying to come off it is like falling off a 10 story building every five seconds, the anxiety is that high. You don’t care what the risk is or what it takes to get it, you just don’t wanna feel like you’re about to die so you do what u have to, get it by any means necessary
“Do whatever to get me by..” -(Dont Follow, AIC)

This guy is a true, clever and real artist; a sensitive creator, deep and sentimental about life and his art riding on a shit load of old school passion and integrity.
For a flickering moment or two I thought I could have been listening to an interview with the likes of a Jim Morrison . They are the conduit, the medium itself from which everything else flows. Very special, highly volatile, tenuous and on the edge.

Man, they are real assholes, I actually remember something from almost 4 years ago when I commented on one of their videos (or his, I don't know), they uploaded the January 1994 Norwood Fisher benefit acoustic show that Alice in Chains played, they just inserted the piece of interview with Mike Inez and Sean from that show and then played the show with a photo from that show, without video. All of that stuff was online already, maybe even the same video like theirs that was possibly deleted, I can't remember. And I just said Dude all of this is already online why do you feel the need to upload it again (plus I thought somebody was finally going to upload proshot footage with good sound, of that show, imagine the dissapointment when I clicked on it), and he's like Dude I don't have to explain anything to you if you don't like it unsubscribe (I wasn't even subscribed lol) he's so full of himself, I think he's some crazed Argentinian fan if I remember correctly. A genuine rude asshole, the last time he signed onto this channel was over a year ago so I don't think he'll be reading this. He's just one of those ungrateful and rude people who just want to collect everything they can and upload it again, pretend they're the biggest fans and probably make some money out of it all. He really failed with this channel fortunately, so he's defeated, good. I know your channel you have great videos. By the way, did you see that Pjvideoguy uploaded a clip from a Tool show from Bremerton May 1994 (the same one that you uploaded), where Layne appears on Opiate ? I don't know where to find those videos and I'm not even from the USA, if you come across the whole show it would be great to upload Opiate. All the best brother

In Kurt's defense he was only known to the broader public for 2 years and 5 months, didn't even make it to 2 1/2 years. From the point of first mainstream album to death, Cobain went away quicker than all of the legends, even Morrison, Hendrix and Joplin were in the mainstream for 3 or 4 years. Kurt was in and out damn quick, who knows what he would of made. But he ain't no AIC, these bands are absolutely not comparable. "Grunge" was not a music genre, it was a music scene from 87-94 based out of Seattle, and many of the bands are different.

      Wrong.
Soundgardens first big mainstream album was Badmoterfinger release in fall of 1991. Ultramega OK and Louder Than Love were not mainstream known.
Facelift by Alice in Chains was released fall of 1990 with 'Man in the Box', 'Sea of Sorrow' and 'We Die Young'.
AIC was the first with mainstream recognition.
AIC was opening act for Mother Love Bone (later partially Pearl Jam) and Soundgarden was really close to both of them, so they were all connected, Nirvana came from left field sort of, even though Kurt also knew MLB guys and went to their shows.

DeLis Cadbss Kind of reminds me of Syd Barrett to a certain degree, both were mad geniuses! What musical artistic talent. He couldn't deal with the media which was part of what killed him in the same way it killed Hendrix! I'm 55 years old and Nobody made me FEEL emotionally lyrically and vocally the way Layne did! RIP

justin thymes I do as well !! No other singer has Ever made me Feel the way I do. felt he was singing about me with the intensity that he possessed! This is coming from a 55 year old that has heard everything in many genres over the years. In the Rock genre, I loved the Dave Clark 5, Sabbath, Joplin, Floyd, Etc. Group up with Rock all my life. Plant was my favorite male singer of all time until I heard Chris Cornell! As Great as Chris Is, No singer has EVER made me Feel in the Rock genre like Layne RIP

im a huge fan of the music. but i like the interviews because i think layne was really funny and just an interesting person to listen to. he talks about things that i wanna know about like what its like going and doing a show and writing the music and its cool to hear that from somebody who actually writes music you like.

The voice of Layne Staley is beautiful 😍

  • @tamibrandt
    @tamibrandt 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Layne had an adorable laugh, he was soft spoken, cared about those around him. His vocal range can run rings around anything Kurt Cobain did or any other grunge singer for that matter. And what girl in their right mind doesn't find a guy who looked like Layne did AND heard the way he could sing, what girl wouldn't find that sexy. He could sing the phone book and not stumble on a wrong note. Hell, he took Jerry Cantrell in after meeting him once and gave Jerry (a perfect stranger) a place to live, got him a job, got Jerry guitars and gear, set Jerry up with a life.
His whole situation and the way he died was tragic and it haunts me when I think about it (and I didn't even know him personally).

Addiction is a horrible disease... hearing Layne talk about the future and what he wanted to accomplish ..its sad. I think when Demri died it pushed him over the edge. all we can do is speculate, but it seems to me that was a huge factor in his addiction spiraling out of control ... he had a one of a kind voice, one of the absolute best imo...the 5 Alice records and the Mad Season record just weren't enough. just a terrible loss !!!

    • @fidrewe99
      @fidrewe99 ปีที่แล้ว

Well, his addiction was pretty much out of control way before that. The making of the self-titled album was already extremely tedious because of it and by the time of this interview, it was already clear that a radical change would be required to make his plans anything more than wishful thinking. He might or might not have accomplished that change, had Demri not died, we'll never know. Unfortunately in hindsight those who declared his demise pretty much hit the mark, they were just a bit off with the timing...

Layne injected SpeedBalls non-stop until his body simply shut down.
He was so far gone that the odds of him recovering and surviving were slim to none.
He knew what it would take to climb out of the hole he was in-
And he also knew he was not capable
or willing to go through that.
He told everyone to please stop trying to save him- he said it was hopeless so don't bother.
Truly as hard core as it gets.

Heroin is bad but it's even worse when you're a creative person like Layne. Creative people tend to be creative to hide pain and once heroin enters the picture it's a wrap because heroin gets rid of having to think about the pain in your life.

It turns out that it hasn't. It brought out the worst in people.
It really has. If you're brave enough to look at the comments and stupid enough to challenge people,
you will be thoroughly disappointed. Test it out. Make a splash. You will be fine if you're at least moderately deluded.

      The Chad
He liked the idea, of getting out of his comfort zone. I don't think, he would've been with AIC full time. He would've played more with solo acts. Sort of a way, that Scott Weiland was doing when he got older. Mad Season, Class of 99', he was also rumored to take the gig to be in Audioslave, but Chris Cornell has that job now, obviously.

    This is so, so sad.
Even though Layne answers every question in a good way, it's heartbreaking to listen to.
He has this typical nasal heroin voice.
    One question is:
How did the members if the band get along at this point?
He says that it went so well. They put it all on the table. He knew that the guys would do anything for him.
And they know the can trust him.
This interview must be from 1995 or something?
I wonder what in earth happened from this interview and just a couple of years later.
Because Layne didn't have contact with the band.
They've said they tried. His friends also tried. But he didn't answer the phone or the door. He wouldn't let people in.
He had contact with Mike Starr. And with his Mom and sister. So it wasn't like he didn't have anything with anyone.
That book that eas written even.said that he told the author that the guys in the band wasn't his friends and he would have nothing to do with them.
This was later on, though, some months before he died.
I just really wonder what happened from this interview where he speaks so highly of the guys, to later on just totally have no contact whatsoever.
It breaks my heart thinking of how lonely he must have felt and what a failure he also must've thought he was :-(

He does a lot of drugs, but would quit the majority of them, however from what he has told me.... When he is "buzzing", his passion and desire to let " loose " comes to him with ease, makes him comfortable, and just helps him do his thing... ( kinda like how Blake Shelton gets a buzz before performing...) I imagine that if he had this chick that he keeps telling me about then he'd most likely be a great husband/father and then just "use" while "working ". He'll probably never be heard tho
