    I own this watch, bought it in Iran in 1978. Still in perfect running condition. Now I can do a little research and hopefully find out what what she is worth.

      Great that will fetch some cash. *I used to be a collector, but I liquidated my collection to venture into real estate. In January, I acquired homes in Malibu for $45million, and the returns on investment far exceed what I earned as a collector.

This video is merely the answer to the question of “it’s easy to sell watches” when in fact there’s a ton of behind the scenes where people lose money, buy damaged goods, get screwed over etc! Lots of people don’t consider total long term cost of ownership! Yeah, you can afford the Patek with an alarm and 6 complications now but service time little Timmy isn’t getting a graduation car cause dad has to service his watch.😱😱😭😂
    My local watch maker is a genius and a gem. He can service highly complex watches…/he saves me thousands.

    • @jeffv3296
      @jeffv3296 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The kind of people that are buying grand complication Pateks are not the caliber of people that are looking to save money on servicing by going to an aftermarket service center. It's one thing to have a standard issue Patek, Rolex or any other upscale brand watch worked on by a nice watchmaker but a rare Patek complication needs to go back to Patek for servicing. Having Patek service a watch like that will cost a lot, but the watch will retain or gain a lot of value by having a Patek service history. If you try to sell a highly complicated Patek with no service record or a service record of it being worked on by an outside source, it will have an immediate negative impact on the value of the watch.

    • @ryanjofre
      @ryanjofre 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jeffv3296 I agree implicitly and a Patek Grand complication is an extreme example with respect. Even I would send a watch of that calibre to Patek.
      My point is geared toward a working class guy buying their first Patek like a nice Calatrava that he had to save for and intends to leave to his son and his being shocked when sends his nice but not so complicated watch in for basic service.
      I haven’t bought any high end pieces post 2019 and I save a fortune with my local guy on everything but especially on 1 of my Patek annual calendars(for example).
      I’m not even remotely concerned about diminished value as I bought my high end watches at the bottom of the market and saved a ton to begin with.
      I’ve only bought shitters since 2018 and even then I’m a tenacious bargain Hunter.
      Last time I got a quote from Patek for service I laughed so hard I almost feel out of my chair.
      Even Breitling who uses reworked ETA movements in some of their pieces charges a princely sum for service.
      Godspeed🙏

      @@Peterpic Also, some years ago the industry switched over to synthetic oils! Allot of times a calibre just needs to be properly lubricated. The synthetic lubricants generally last ALLOT longer than non synthetic. These oils historically have always been very expensive. Some watch makers/companies use the old non synthetic oils because they wanna use up their old stock.😱😱😱

    Big Salute 🫡, really good stuff , I’m learning watchmaking on the side , I have some tools , but my business is mainly health field , diagnostic radiology, I run CT scanners 4 of them at a stupid busy hospital in Norfolk . With that said , I do find the time to understand how each part of the movement works , but hands on is whole different ball game , I was putting on a new strap for my new Breitling Endurance , from Breitling, and I tapped off the the lugs , but didn’t tape off the case back , lol and low and behold , my tool for removing the spring bar , got loose and threw a scratch across the case back . No big deal for me , it’s a composite material called “Brite Light “ super super light , hard to scratch or ding , nothing like the tanks 44mm Bentleys from back early 2000s but damn it ! I like your polish machine , the Mop , it’s not screwed on ? Just put the mop in the screw and let it turn ? No screwing down ?
