Meg, you're the reason I started lifting and it has changed my life forever. You're an amazing woman who uses her platform for one of the best purposes there is - getting people stronger and healthy. It's not just your lifting content but the whole "vibe" of yours that make your videos so enjoyable and you so admirable. You radiate positive energy and we know we want more of it.
5 years ago, I couldn't hold my electric toothbrush the entire 2 minutes or stand up without assistance, but I got my first big girl push-up, am goblet-squatting 30 lbs, deadlifting 50lbs via my DIY t-bar kb, and 'benching' on the floor. It only took me 51 years to be ready for barbell training. (If a little old lemon can do it, you can!) Now if only this coronacrap would end. If it doesn't end, soon, one of you Tarrant Co barbell training experts with a home gym may need to have me over. I'm chomping at the bit.
I've always wanted to try the barbells in the gym because it looks so badass and I'm at the point where I am just excited for every gym session. So I guess you can say that my goal is to eventually get on the barbell but I have no clue how to. I'm glad you came up with this video so that i'll know what I need to do to get there. Cheers!
I have had these for several weeks th-cam.com/users/postUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 and I have been really happy with them so far. I love being able to do a variety of workouts at home when I don't have time to make it to the gym. When paired with a basic bench, there are tons of different exercises and you can hit pretty much all major muscle groups. It is easy to adjust to your desired weight with the dials on each side. They slide in and out of the cradle smoothly. The only downside to this design vs the newer version, is that these are pretty wide. This does limit your range of motion with certain hand positions on certain exercises. Straight dumbbell press would be an example of this. I have to turn my hands slightly in order to bring them close enough together. Not a huge deal to me though. Really happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend.
I've been weight lifting for about three years now and I've only just started kinda getting comfortable with the barbell... Not quite there yet but soon hopefully. I don't know why but I always just feel intimidated by it and I didn't like the idea of putting something heavy on my neck and just... I didn't like it. But I realized I really needed to push myself past it because it's the only way I would be able to keep progressing. So I just wanted to let anyone who feels like that too that it's normal and to just keep pushing through until one day you feel comfortable enough to pick the bar up and try just one or two movements... You can do it!
Just wanted you to know three years later this video is a huge help. I am working up to light resistence training which I hope will one day process. This is such a help in helping me figure out what to do as I progress. Thank you Meg!
Meg, I just want to say you work so hard! I've been watching you ever since you posted the road to 300 video. I can't wait to see you reach 1 mil! Keep it up
Your "Why should I do this?" at the start of the video is one of the most concise, concrete, and easily accessible explanations for barbell resistance training I have seen to date! Thank you for your efforts to make new converts!
I dont have a squat rack💖 can you and your hubby do a video on suggestions if you have a bar and plates but no squat rack.... I would need that as I progress starting over with the bar all at home...will use these tips because I love my KB...been doing hit and yoga and walks with my 30lbs weighted vest but I want to get back to the bar deadlifts and squats....just enjoying my body changing....thanks Meg I had to come back to this video...🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤
Inspired by the mission to get a barbell in other females hands! Such a helpful video for beginners, I'll be forwarding this on to girls who I have been promoting powerlifting to So many girls want to try and don't know where to start..
I just discovered your channel. I am a seasoned lifter, but reviewing the basics is always great and it's nice to know of a good place where I can send my beginner friends to learn about lifting. Since I can't really do my training with them.
Excellent Video,Meg!!!! It is awesome to see someone give some honest common sense advice to trainees, with an emphasis on beginners.I hope all beginners get a chance to watch this, before they start their training.
I hear adding a comment also helps out a content provider? I watched my first Megsquats video a few weeks ago while looking at one specific topic across a variety of content providers; I've been back a few times because of the positive energy you pack into your videos at no extra charge! Today I went ahead and hit the subscribe button, specifically because I laughed out loud when you kept making your 'hit the like button' pleas! Stay safe and keep being awesome.
Due to an old wrist injury, My grip strength is trash, which affects form on the deadlift, but it is so interesting to see how you engage your back muscles during the lift! I’m going to try that and see if that helps. I so so wish I could be a badass deadlifter but my wrist won’t let me
I love you, youre so informative!! Because of you i reached 205# in my squats i took a break from lifting due to pregnancy and then raising 2 kids i never thought id reach my old pr (155#) but with your videos ive surpassed it im working my bench press and deadlifts. Thanks meg keep up the amazing work!!
I am following your 8 weeks programme, but I experience lower back pain while doing deadlifts, even while paying close attention to a straight and tight posture. What to do? I tend to have lower back pain very easy, so maybe I should do more pilates first? Thanks!
This is pretty great! I'm at an intermediate level now (squatting 125# deads 155#) but I know a few ladies that are very intimidated by my workouts but want to lift. Dead's are my fav so I always encourage them to use dumbbells. Now I can refer them to a specific vid! Thanks!
Tq very much ma'am... ur video helps me alot..... but can u make a video on positions of deadlift squat nd bench press nd also explain how to improve the weight. .......
Omg Meg I NEEDED this. I always use a smith machine or dumbbells and my apt gym and I recently went to a real gym with a friend and could not lift a barbell with little weight for my life
13:16 The only problem with this technique is, that you can watch this video several times, but aren't allowed to like it again and again. I guess that''s the biggest issue, that you content is so engaging, ppl have to watch it over and over again for tips, motivation and of course the charming presentress.
Thank you so much Meg, this entire video was super helpful. I've already watched it several times. I am (finally)getting my push-up/bench form right and packing my shoulders like I should, the way you demonstrate is really comprehensive and makes it easy to learn. It never occurred to me that I could practice with dumbbells on the floor, and the broomstick tip was actually really helpful. Next time I work with an actual barbell at the gym I will be a much more confident beginner. You rock!
I am excited to watch this video. Meg I purposely took a week off from lifting because my body really could use a real deload. I am going to lift today for the first time and am so excited.
Just recently started watching your videos - I love them! In a world full of fitness influencers, It's refreshing to see a professional with actual knowledge and facts. :)
Meg, I stumbled upon your channel earlier this week and I’m obsessed with your channel!! Your videos have motivated me to start lifting again. I love feeling strong and confident. Thank you for your strong influence on myself and other women!!
Just found your content. I’m so excited to do your before the barbell program on Instagram. I have been so nervous to do anything because I’m worried I won’t get the form right, but I don’t want to pay for a program until I’m past the beginner phase. So this is so perfect!
As always Meg, thank you for sharing this information. And thank you for being an amazing person and a true Inspiration to me. Best wishes and have a great day!
Thank you so much Meg, it was only after I found your channel that I actually started picking up a barbell. I have started deadlifts and squats and this is the happiest I have been in a very long time. The scale hasn't moved a lot but I am stronger than ever.
Yes! You interested me in powerlifting. I've been using weights since I was 13 and have always loved it. For sport strength training, bodybuilding and for strength. Powerlifting seems to me a combo of all the things I've done before, I'm excited to learn more. You are one of the few channels I found for newbie powerifters.
Love your videos, I have been out of the gym for 8 weeks due to double hernia surgery, back to my favorite gym.. will use this advise to start again. 💖💖💪💪. Also love your gorgeous Ring!!!!!
I like your channel. I recently gave up the gym and started working out at home since i slowly bought tons of equipment. As for the app is this a month to month ? Im basically asking if i give your app and program a try i want to make sure i like it so i stay with it. Love the channel!
A very helpful video, this is something that i learned with a lot of injuries and many trainers, in small gyms, does not know about basics movements, you deserve more "Likes" than you have. thanks
Hey Meg thanks so much for sharing your breast cancer awareness. If you're not already it would also be good to go in for skin checks with a dermatologist too. Just part of taking care of yourself 😘😘😘
This was timely for me. I've been doing a dumbbell routine for long enough that it's time to switch things around, as you do. I've been entertaining the idea of doing barbell work, but I was a bit leery of having to jump into lifting hugeass plates. Thank you for great info on easing into it! 💪😊
Lifting when supervised with experienced coaches is fine at a young age - we know lifters who start at age 5! Best advice is to start with bodyweight movements, and drill in good movement patterns with pushing, pulling, jumping, lunging and more. Be sure the environment is set up for success and safety!
Your videos are SO informative and very clear! Really impressed by the format. And your personality is great :) Thanks for making the basics approachable
@57 I am.30 lbs overweight and one year of consistency with cardio produced one pound loss. I have bad knees. Do you have any training videos or suggestions for mature beginners who are pretty healthy but joint and weight issues? I've tried personal trainers but they don't seem to.understand how Nad my knees are.
Hello Meg! You are inspiring. I wanted to ask if it's ok for dudes to follow your trainings? I don't know if it's only oriented to women. Dumb question I suppose, but just wanted to know for sure ;)
I noticed many of you have not liked the video yet... do I need to make a video on 'HOW TO DO A PUSH UP?!?!'
Yes... yes you do. 😂
I forgot to like and came back 😂😂😂
I always like your videos before watching, sorry 🤷♀️
I did!!!!!✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
How are we supposed to call you without your phone number?
Needy 😍
I love love love that you leave the little pieces of your and Ryan's conversations.

Did you continue? How's it going 3 years later?
Let’s goooooo
Goblet squats in strong strong friends programming helped me improve my squat form + depth immensely! 🙏🏻
I've always wanted to try the barbells in the gym because it looks so badass and I'm at the point where I am just excited for every gym session. I'm so glad you posted this. I've just started going back to the gym and the weights are something I want to work up to but I've been intimidated by.

Holy heck. That back engagement, shrug your shoulders and push back tip has just changed my lifting life. Thank you!!
Thank you for this video! I am a total NOOB for weight lifting and needed some instruction on where to start.
Meg, I just want to say you work so hard! I've been watching you ever since you posted the road to 300 video. I can't wait to see you reach 1 mil! Keep it up

Love the inspiration and guidance to get more women into lifting heavy! 💪🏼
Te adoro todos tus workouts son maravillosos .

Thank you Meg!! I watch all your videos and I wish there was more women on youtube to watch!
Trying to look out for my little sister’s health what do you think is a right age to get my sister into strength training?.

Fine MEG!!! I'll like the video!! GEEZ!
Yesssss!! I'm about to switch from Obstacle Running to lifting, but wasn't sure to transition to barbells. Thank you so much ♥️♥️
Great video. Love this format and all your stuff Meg.
I absolutely love your videos! You’re so knowledgeable and funny! I’m a CrossFit coach and get really rest info from your videos! Thanks!!!

How do you load the barbell? I’m so afraid it’s going to tip over.
Great video... enjoyed watching you on Just Kidding News channel...
You explain things really well. Nice video!
my knees hurt when doing the squats and I do not want that to shy away from doing them!
Thank you for this video. I will refer my daughter to you.
YOU'RE THE BEST MEG!
Barbell Fridays
Your videos are SO informative and very clear! Really impressed by the format. And your personality is great :) Thanks for making the basics approachable
The thumbnail reminded me of a simple workout that I do: Kettlebell Swings & Goblet Squats (raised heels) for rounds. KILLER
How do you recommend safely putting down the dumbbells on the dumbbell floor press?
@57 I am.30 lbs overweight and one year of consistency with cardio produced one pound loss. I have bad knees.
