    Basic tool for those bushes locally in Montenegro is called " Kosijer - cosiyer " or in english (billhook,hedging-bill or something like that. There is a ton work to be done there as you already know ... I have no idea how experienced you are, or did you check what can or can't grow there. Main issue with that particular place is water. There is also venomous snakes, bears, wolfs etc... That house you bough looks like was used for animal lately. And it looks like they had even older houses next to it. Watch out for those rocky fences and rocky constructions surrounding house because snakes love it. Don't know how much money you paid for it, I do know that they tend to overprice it for strangers. Don't wish to discourage you but you need to be ready for a lot investing into it not only time and work but also knowledge and money. My suggestion is to always negotiate for better prices and to learn what tools are used for what. Also look into cascades to create levels of ground then on those levels of ground navigate rain water to gather it on bottom. Also use it to plant things on each cascade different. What I know grows well there is onion, garlic, patato, carrott, cabbage. Also look in what is profitable to sell on local market ( you need to start looking into profiting of it because before you notice money will be spent ) For example organic eggs are very profitable, if you can create a base of chicken for example organic natural eggs are 4euros per 10 eggs and if you produce 100eggs a day that could finance all the rest of your work step by step ... Bees are also very good, but be aware if not experienced or without knowladge. Look into local community to create connections and relationship. Many will look you like crazy but keep you spirit up. I moved out of Montenegro to earn some money to be able to come back and buy land and do similar thing you are planning to do there, but I would look to get land closer to river or spring that is lasting whole year. Because without water in wild it's very very nearly impossible... good luck and hope to see more of you update in upcoming time.

    • @Riannesstories
      @Riannesstories  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for your time and sincerity and great advice. We are looking out for snakes daily as mating seasons starts we will probably see a few, although up until now we have only seen 1 snake last year in spring and not the horned viper. I think with current technologies it can be easier living here and even grow a bigger variation of crops, fruit trees and bushes. I’m just going to experiment and try, and first find a whole lot of ways for harvesting water and adding soil. Next to making the little house livable for the end of this year. Would love to see you when you come back and have a drink.

    • @kiminem4087
      @kiminem4087 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Riannesstories 1st of all thank you for the invite, it would be a pleasure to have cup of tea together. Mentioning tea I think I saw " Sipurak " or in latin. " Rosa canina" that could be used as tea :D in some of those bushes around house you tryed to remove ... Putting new earth and building up cascades etc is proven method. I am happy you are going to put that work up there, because even work around house is good form of meditation and stress removal if approached in a certain way ... Also I am not sure at what altitude is that location but above some altitude one horn snake (Poskok) doesn't live on high altitudes, high altitudes is domain of locally known venomous snake called ( Sharka/Šarka or Šargan ) so depending of altitude there should be different type of snakes. It's advisable to always wear boots, even tho in my village we were mostly bare footed but we know where was safe to do so. Also this might be very hard smell but there is a way for example to scare of snakes for a while and that is to put a little bit of sulfur (sumpor local name) on old t-shirt and burn it, so then smell will scare of snakes... Also be aware that carbonized trees after open fire can attract snakes. And always in summer months watch out for branches of trees because of heat snakes go up on branches to cool down. So then it's dangerous for those who doesnt know because they could fall of branch or someone can grab a branch with a snake on it ... All in all good luck, wish you the best and I rly hope you manage to get water to your home. Other things like solar and internet will be much easier to get with new tech. Good luck and thanks for chossing Montengro.

    • @Riannesstories
      @Riannesstories  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh thank you again, highly appreciate all your advice and information. We are looking for leather boots, or do you think thick rubber will be good enough as well, and are between 900 -1000 meters above sea level. Mostly barefoot I believe that is so good for the soul. And indeed when you know the lands things are different. This year is all about observing for us and trying to grow a diversity of vegetables and fruits on small scale just to see what works and what doesn’t. For water I’m now looking at a combination of: constructing a water tank, water reservoirs, drilling a well, fog harvesting nets, condensation methods, but also making sure we harvest more water in the ground. And of course reusing the water several times. Let’s see what we will find out and discover. There is more then enough rainfall to capture to last the droughts- so that is good.

    • @kiminem4087
      @kiminem4087 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Riannesstories I do think that rubber boots are more then enough. Regarding water. Altitude you mentioned is like border zone for (Sarka/Sargan venemous snakes mostly but Poskok (one horn shouldn't be excluded). Be aware that in summer months temperature rises to + 40 degree Celsius so water harvest by mist nest wouldn't be an option. I know many use plastic 5k liter containers with those metal protection on sides or couple of those 200l blue round containers, but do your calculations ... Land get very dry in summer, and watering of plants in summer months is done very early in the morning when ground is coldest because during day or night ground is still too hot and evaporation can burn leafs and cold water can shock the roots .... I would highly suggest you to go around and walk around in villages met people and have a look into their garden and see how did they solve those issues on that location. And what are they growing. Locals should be friendly and ready to help. Language could be a little barrier with older people, but younger folks should be able to speak very well english. Best way for water harvest should be to put all reserves on lowest point and using permaculture canals guide it towards there. Also if you are looking to dig for water best to do it in summer because then water level is lowest ... you dont wish to find winter reserve underground and then in summer run dry on it ... but step by step 1st that roof, then solar, then inside of house etc ... watch out for quality of wood for roof construction and protect it well. Also look into protecting house from thunderbolt ( lightning while thunder ) and ground it well. You rly pick up a wild place in a bit wild country :D wish you the best of luck ...

    I cannot help but be filled with admiration for your journey of renovating a ruin in the mountains of Montenegro into an eco-luxury boutique resort. Your story is one of perseverance and dedication, a tale of rediscovering oneself and finding solace in the beauty of nature.
    Your words transport me to the rough black rocky karst landscape of Montenegro, where you have found a little piece of paradise amidst the magical nature. Your vision of an off-the-grid cabin with a permaculture farm, fruit forest, and polyculture-raised garden beds is truly remarkable, and it warms my heart to see individuals like yourselves taking steps towards sustainable living.
    As I watched your video, I was struck by the passion and love you have for this project. The care and attention to detail that you put into every aspect of your homestead is a testament to your commitment to creating a truly special place. Your spiritual journey is an inspiration, and it gives me hope that we can all learn to live in balance with nature.

    I immediately was attracted to your new channel. Many of us have dreams and a beautiful home is often one of them. We dream but always have to measure our dreams with our abilities and finances. I've seen enough videos of people overcoming the seeming lack of abilities with their determination but it is more difficult to overcome a lack of finances. When I cruise the internet and TH-cam for my dream, I always am concerned with price. For some reason, people are always afraid or at least hesitant to state the cost of their dreams and projects. I then become disappointed. I usually then lose interest. So please give us an idea what this beautiful estate would cost and the costs of your upgrades. Many TH-camrs in the midst of their project take breaks and visit other places to show. You could do that with other places both more expensive and less expensive than yours to keep people of varying finances interested. But please, don't ignore the costs. We care deeply. And good luck!

    The stone house looks very solid but the roof needs some serious jacking up and bracing to level it up. Myself would definitely see the possibilities. First you need a water supply and everything else will fall into place also need a temporary outhouse but get to work on that roof soon.

      It would most likely be easier to remove the tiles. Put in new rafters and relay the tiles. reuse the old rafters for something else may look good as exposed timber somewhere.

    • @ronjohnson3695
      @ronjohnson3695 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnclements6614 I would actually agree with you about new rafters. But I want to also retain the original character of the house. After all we could use hewn timbers for the rafters, I would if I had the logs to work with

    Interesting how you bypassed Croatia, you've got all the ruins you want there but the price will be hefty and the red tape even worse. A house like this in the mountains of Montenegro would be inexpensive and probably easy to purchase, although renting would probably be a better option. Many Euros dream of escaping to places like these but fail to realize many of the issues that come along with living and rehabilitating these backwoods Balkan retreats.
