  • Escaped to the Yorkshire Dales for a solo wild camping trip and, this time, I am exploring the route up and over Pen-y-ghent and Plover Hill from Halton Gill and Foxup on the eastern side of the summit.
I have been keen to tick off Pen-y-ghent again but didn’t want to do the “tourist route” up from Horton in Ribblesdale as I have done many times before. I was lucky with the weather as, although it was sub-zero overnight on the summit, the skies were clear and it remained dry and with only light winds.
The Queens Arms at Litton was back open again following the National restrictions but we had to eat and drink outside - all fine as it was bright and sunny (and warm enough!).

Thanks for watching and, bye for now.

    Taking care on the hills:
I’m not a pro, expert or any kind of leader on the mountains. I step out for fun and my own personal enjoyment. What I do is at my own risk. I do not suggest anyone does what I do, the way I do it, where I go or anything else in my videos. I’m always mindful of my own safety and doing what is right with respect to the environment and others on the hills. If you watch my videos, please enjoy them as they are and don’t necessarily assume they are examples of excellent practice. I’m learning along the way too.
As always, every fell-walker goes out on their route taking on responsibility for their own safety and wellbeing, accessing areas that are open to the public or asking for permission as necessary. I totally support the #LeaveNoTrace campaign and encourage everyone to follow that too. So, if you venture out, please respect the environment, be considerate to others along the route, stay safe, wear, carry and use the clothes and equipment that you need for your trek, have ample food and drink for the duration of your trek, navigate carefully and keep within the limitations of your fitness and abilities. Let others know where you plan to go and when you will return.
    Stay Safe. Enjoy!

I was indeed lucky with the weather that trip. The long route up would have been a drag in rain. And the clear views make the summit worthwhile too. Thanks for your comment, take care W :)

It was indeed a very enjoyable walk, A different route up and down to a summit that I know well. It gave different views and avoided the crowds! :) W

Hey there again! This is certainly a good summit but the usual route is up from Horton in R, from the western side. Thanks for watching, W :)

Lovely walk in lovely weather. Not a Yorkshire bog in sight. And no crowds either, although I did notice a couple of Poles....

It was a most enjoyable trek Kit, an easy route up and then the final attack to the ridge was great. Good views all the time and yes, lovely weather for a change. Two poles, yep ;) W
