These jingles were unlike anything heard on radio back in the day. And so we’re the jocks, newscasters, production and contests. All masterfully orchestrated by Ken Draper, and funded by the Chicago Federation of Labor. But it all started to come unwound when John Rook streamlined WLS into a fast paced, more music station. It was a hell of a ride for a WCF eL of a town!

The Blore/Draper jingles were produced by Chuck at Blore's Hollywood studio on Argyle Street, a block south of Hollywood Blvd., across from the H'wood Transit Mall these days.
Musicians were session players including members of the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, with Glen Campbell on guitar and Stan Getz on Sax. Quite a serious array for radio jingles. The Johnny Mann singers apparently worked with the pre-recorded instrumentals in a separate session. The name Dick Reynolds sticks in my brain as the person who wrote the music and assembled the instrumental ensamble.
Chuck told me these jingle packs cost the stations $250,000 each, which was real money back in 66.

@@EllisFeaster and whoever else commented here, well who would've thought, some decades later, these jingles would be sung again on 570 KLAC? Believe it or not, they were, between 2002-2005, when a man named Brad "Martini" Chambers made a home for Sinatra, Nat Cole and all the great legends, as well as new talent like Michael Bublé and Nora Jones. Folks who recorded tunes by songwriters like George Gershwin, Cole Porter and others. Hopefully in the coming months they'll finally arrive on TH-cam, because I know I sent them to you, Ellis, in April or May. Either way, great package!

@@EllisFeaster -- I was thinking there may have been
an alternate jingle for WCFL that would have came in next.

I believe this was back during the “Chicken Man” era. WCFL came up with the hero spoof “Chicken Man” and it became a big hit. “Chicken Man” is still featured on the WCFL tribute website along with clips of all the old WCFL DJ’s and jingles.

Great jingle package! Now Ellis, a few months back I sent you some airchecks from 570 KLAC, dating back to 2003 and 2004. And would you believe? Somebody went ahead and used a few of these classic Chuck Blore backing tracks and sang new lyrics for the station. If you haven't been working on those yet, it's alright. Take your time.

PS, the jingle at the 0:36 mark was how I got introduced to this package...Blame it on KLAC... LOL.

Hi Matthew. I am so backlogged! So many fans of the channel have been sending me items, and I have been having delays getting everything produced & posted. But I will catch-up!

Chuck Blore cut those 570 KLAC jingles himself. He hired the Waters Family for the vocals and used the original WCFL instrumental tracks. I know because I'm the one who remastered the instrumentals for him.

@@sandrawoodruff6063 wow! Wonder if any of those remastered and resung jingles are floating around on the web or here at TH-cam.... If you know where I can find them do let me know....Might have to upload 'em to my channel if I can obtain an MP3 copy from another site!

They were 50K day and night, however if I remember right, they were directional at night. Chicago and suburbs North, South and East.

They pull it in at night to protect KOMO in Seattle. Great metro coverage day and night. The WCFL calls remain on the transmitter bldg, even though the station is now WMVP.
