I’m salivating like a Pavlov dog listening to this great Air Check. I always thought Ron Lundy and WABC was a perfect storm - they seemed to be made for each other. I remember Ron was on the overnights for awhile when he first arrived. WABC had as many contests as KHJ in those days. The PSA for water conservation reminded me of the NY drought in the mid 60’s, all the reservoirs were low for several years. Ron’s reference to military in Thailand and playing requests reminded me that the jocks would often record an hour of their show on request by soldiers stationed abroad and send them the tape. A Viet Nam buddy once played an Air Checks Bruce Murrow made for him and his platoon in Nam in the late 60’s right off the board! What a station. A really meaningful Air Check to me. Thanks for a few minutes of happiness. God Bless.
"The Swingin' Nightwalker" doing the overnight! Wait, @ 4:37 he said "WABC AM/FM"...was it simulcasted on FM too or was he sleep walking/talking on air?
For a stretch of years in the late ‘60s, WABC AM and FM were united from the start of Chuck Leonard’s show (10:30) through the overnight until Herb/Harry started the morning drive show at 6:00 am. Not sure when this started nor precisely when it stopped (1969?).
Ron Lundy showing why New York really was the " City that never sleeps"! The WABC format and sound was copied by so many stations, including the short lived "Offshore Pirate Stations" in the UK at this time. Thanks for posting this fabulous air check.
Terrific aircheck! Years ago online I heard an aircheck for I think WABC that had a "Yonkers Raceway" jingle (clickety, clickety, clickety clop, Yonkers Raceway that's the spot) and I've been trying to find it again for years. From the early/mid 60s. Would you happen to know what aircheck that's in/where I could find it?
I would love this TRIP down memory Lane, but you don't play the songs. What's the point? Did d j's take me back? I grew up then, but I can't hear the songs that's crazy
In broadcasting, we call this a scoped aircheck. It's how broadcasting professionals listen to recorded radio. It showcases the DJ. This channel is about remembering the great DJs of the past.
thank you so much for posting!

@@seebs3046 Thanks! 👍🏻🙂 That's kinda cool, who knows, maybe if they were able to keep the FM (in some way) they might have lasted a little longer...
Best year for music too. Garage rock to Herb Alpert and Sinatra. Thanks.
Awesome! Best time in radio!
