Wigan Springs Branch Depot (SP)

Rebuilt as a depot in 2018, Wigan Springs Branch (SP) is situated to the south of Wigan station alongside the West Coast Main Line. Filmed here in 1992, the depot was about to face closure but managed to survive in this form until 1995. At that point, it was aquired by the then train operating company EWS where it was used for component recovery from a number of condemned diesel locos. Following this period the depot became used as storage along with seasonal fleet (MPV) maintainance before being rebuilt and finally passing over to its current operator Northern Rail.
