I use Tent proofer too. I have 2 M65’s, one for cold winter with the quilted liner installed, one for lighter use without liner. In heavy weather I use a British Army DPM waterproof over smock on top. Dry & warm, keep the wind out, just the ticket.

The m65 is a great jacket, it's a tried, tested and gained the respect. With the dpm over the top, you can't go wrong.

Good ole Nikwax still makes the best product for this. Their cottonproof wash in waterproofing kick ass.
The 50% cotton/50% nylon M65’s are extremely windproof but the cotton absorbs water like a sponge.
    Nikwax FTW ime 100%
    Godspeed 🇺🇸🙏

Maybe it was in the past but since they've tried to make it more environmentally friendly it's now pretty much useless. At most it'll resist the rain for a few minutes before the face fabric wets out. Fabsil actually works but will probably not be as breathable.

Hi Andy, great video. Ive been considering this for a while and your video has sealed the deal for me. I have a few old canvas jackets this would be perfect for. Do you put it on neat or do you dilute it down?
    Thanks in advance!

I spray it on neat with a little spray bottle that's normally used by a gardener to spray weed killer or ant killer. I have a video showing how to apply fabsil gold called "how to waterproof a ventile jacket with fabsil gold" just so you know, fabsil gold stinks and the jacket needs airing outside or in a garage for 5 day or so, but the plain fabsil doesn't smell so much, but it will go. Hope this helps. And thanks for watching 👍

Are there any problems in washing/cleaning the jacket after the fabsil treatment? Also, is the breathability affected by it?

    • @Andy-walkaboutnutty
      @Andy-walkaboutnutty  ปีที่แล้ว

The breathability is only affected to a tiny extent, and after all, it's an outer garment. You won't notice it too much. If you're hot, just undo the synching ties and loosen the collar. Fabsil is new to me, so I haven't washed any fabsil coated jackets yet.

I've only just discovered fabsil Ron, someone told me about it so I honestly don't know, sorry about that.

    Hi Andy.
Just watched your vid on the MTP Smock.
Could you use Fabsil on that too,for waterproofing? Also, do you just soak the jacket in it then let it dry completely?
Also, does it need reproofing over time?
    All the best👍🏾🇬🇧

Application is with a spray bottle then leave it outside the house to dry because of the smell. Yes, apply it to your mtp smock👍. not sure about the reproofing, I've only just discovered it.

@@Andy-walkaboutnutty It does need to be re appied but it depends on how much wear the fabric gets. It is quite long lasting good stuff. but its not permanent. Better than nikwax though.

@@theenglishtrucker1849 thanks for that answer, and yes, I would say it's better than nikwax.

@@Andy-walkaboutnutty I was bored, just randomly searched for fabsil gold, found your video and instantly recognised Monknash! A place my Mrs and I quite often visit. Fabsil Gold, is the only stuff Ive found that gives waterproof jackets like Gore tex its factory waterproofing effect. Nikwax just doesnt work. Grangers is similar to Nikwax, Stormsure works great with drips of water from a tap...until rain hits it. Then it just wets out. Dont waste any time trying to find a better product. Fabsil is the best. Ive tried them all. Fabsil works, and lasts a good lenght of time. Absolutely stinks when applying it though. Once its dry there is no smell as you said. It did a great job with your jacket.

@The English Trucker thanks English trucker, everything you said is 💯 % correct. I'm really glad you found the video, and I hope you enjoyed it, and yes, fabsil is the best. 👍
