    i found a plastic 65 made for rain wear, Italian surplus. Living in Florida, rain gear is a must for survival in Florida. It has a button in liner. Works pretty well.

    Had two pairs of them made by polish helikon in woodland and olive drab/green and even that they were specific reproduction of original surplus made for military pants they were great not only for cold weather and also for medium cold and early fall atmospheres.At now i have two pairs of bdus in ripstop made by helikon, one woodland and one 3 color desert and theyre better in my opinion and more universal and of course cheaper than m65 (btw i had 2 jackets too, now using goretex), the material is ripstop and you can wear something under them (in ex pair of pants used to wear at house).Additionaly im aiming to buy woodland bdu shirt to cover my gore tex from mud (its adidas genuine civil version) and the set is completed for me but of course i can advise both m65 pants and jackets, theyre extremely reliable and almost indestructible, they fit most of jeans and/or other military pants as well.Greetings from poland :)

    The best winter pants I had were a pair of military chemical protective pants a local surplus store had years ago. They were fabric on the outside with a very dense charcoal impregnated foam on the inside. We would wear these over jeans and kept very warm. The wind would not go through them. Wish I still had a pair. Thank you Blackie.

      I used one of those charcoal lined chem suits as a base for a ghillie suit. The zippers coming almost up to the knee and the pass through pockets came in handy. I cut some nylon from an old duffle bag and glued it to the front of the pants and jacket to make it easier to slide and more durable, moved some of the pockets around to the arms, and sewed netting on the back of everything to attach burlap and foliage. Even in 95 degree heat crawling around in tall grass it wasn't too hot and breathed unbelievably well.

    Great show Blackie ! The BDUs come in a variety of fabrics/fabric blends; 100% cotton rip stop, 65polyester/35cotton rip stop, Twill (heaviest, not rip stop), 50/50 NYCO Nylon/Cotton rip stop (most expensive). That old Woodland camo was what I was issued in the 90s in case some of us were sent to Central/South America (we never were). That was the best camouflage. The ACU that replaced it was a poor attempt to have a "one camo for everywhere". I was actually looking at the 4 pocket Woodland camo BDU shirt/blouse today and those are knocking on $45+ (I had ordered a brand new German Bundeswer flecktarn camo shirt... but it wasn't the right size so I had to send it back 😞). Fun fact, for a very short period of time, every branch of the US Armed Forces wore these. And although the camo and fabrics were identical, some branches had some differences... USMC had button waist tabs on the 4 pocket shirt/ blouse. USN Seabees & SEALS had pockets on the upper sleeves of the shirt.

    Up north? Bemidji Minnesota has a small surplus Minneapolis Minnesota has a larg surplus store. But where I've been finding them way cheap is the used stuff places. Thrift shops and antique shops. Other than surplus. This might interest you. Oil lamps camp gear tools kitchen ware .old time coffee pots. And if your looking for crystal stuff. Well go to park rapids Minnesota on the west side or Crosby Minnesota if you antique. Just letting you know. As far as surplus? I'm starting to see Gen one and two on the racks now. And that is the thrift store. Oh. You should try out the air force trousers man's utility. There warm for something with no liners. I think it's the extra pocket on the lower leg. Plus there stretchy instead of the side adjustment. .

    I have a bunch of the camo bdu pants but I've never seen the heavy winter version. I have about 3 of the long large bdu I never wore because I'm 5:7. I do have some of the pants liners here too and I have a couple of the German wool pants too, super heavy and warm with plastic in the knees. Fun to learn about stuff I haven't seen before but they made a ton of specialized clothing for any climate.

    I completely forgot that I had them and the liner in my old duffel bag in a old footlocker from my days of being in (1986-1996, 1999-2003). One of the tricks that I learned back then was to take a couple of the plastic stoppers that came on bags and sweatshirts. I put one on each of the drawstrings on the pants cuff to help hold them closed when you tied them up while you were walking in deep snow to help keep them from sliding up. I have to pull them out and wash them and see if they still fit.

    We were issued the woodland camo in the 80's but I've never seen that particular version with the suspender loops. Tough as iron, super durable. When the ripstop came out we wanted to love it but they were shit, wore out in no time. They eventually came out with another rip stop that was better. I left in 1988 with a stack of uniforms and over the decades either wore them out or gave them away. I may still have a couple of uniforms in the woodland camo but my old fat ass ain't never getting in those small-regular pants again. LOL (edit) I guess that Kaufman's in Alabama doesn't have a website. Crap! If they do, please post it.

    I have the first post-ww2 set, the wool CPO style shirt, OD, of course, and matching pants, and the Fishtail parka with removable hood and liner. That was called the M-1951 uniform they came out with for the Korean War and NATO in Europe. I love the wool stuff. By the time I retired I also had the woodland gear.
    You didn’t mention the suspenders strap when you talked about the suspender buttons. Those were for the elastic suspenders they came out with, way back when. I still find them in bundles at gun shows and surplus stores(sometimes even Coleman’s Surplus, or Charlie’s) in new, unissued condition. They attach with an elongated wire hook, that hooks through that horizontal strap, which is on ALL the layers, including the old Wallace Beery (sp?) and going up to the new pollypro underwear. One suspender keeps all inner layers up. Fantastic idea. Not complete without these. I didn’t like the older button model. By the way, another great thing is that they hook on the sides, easy to do when you gotta go to the bathroom without completely undressing to unhook the button type!

      Back in the '70s, we would walk the first week to allow the candidates from the cooler climates to get used to August heat and humidity on the Potomac. Us Southern boys laughed.

    The pair i found has some has some web type long straps in the cargo pockets. I think they are probably there to dummy cord something so you can't loose whatever you have. Does yours have them or have they been cut out?

    • @terrysaunders2026
      @terrysaunders2026 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Edward: Those straps help take up slack for the pockets. They wrap around and tie on your thighs. The pockets are so big that stuff shifts around, and the straps help minimize that.

    • @terrysaunders2026
      @terrysaunders2026 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plus, the pockets snag on barb wire or anything else you walk by, they can be a snag hazard.

    • @BLACKIETHOMAS
      @BLACKIETHOMAS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      correct the straps were to be leg ties and keep the loose fit from shifting and snagging when you were walking

  • @JMark-zk5pj
    @JMark-zk5pj ปีที่แล้ว

    They should have the built in tie tapes for the cargo pockets as well.

    My wife hates me wearing them. 🤣 but its my favorite surplus pant so I wear them every chance i get which is only a month or two out of the year but they're great. If the zipper falls down on you a lot like my pair does just take the cord attached to the zipper and pull it over the button before you button your pants and it keeps your pants up. Thought it was kinda cool. I want to get the suspenders idk why i havent bought any yet i saw them for pretty cheap.
