I just love Tab Hunter! He was such a wonderful man. Thanks for posting this video TCM. Also, whoever was asking him the questions was doing a GREAT job. You could tell she was really happy to talk with Mr. Hunter. Again, thank you for posting this interview.
I agree about the interviewer, judging by her voice I assume she's a young woman and it's nice to hear a young person being so knowledgeable about an older star's career and the people he co-starred with.
I worked on a movie with Tab Hunter in 1982. What everyone is saying here is true; he was a dear, kind, and selfless gentleman, who wasn't above hanging around with the crew. He was very down-to-earth (and a tall drink of water).
I spoke to Tab Hunter when he was here in Chicago autographing his autobiography "The Making of A Movie Star" and he was so nice and pleasant to talk to. And he knew how to 'listen' to what a fan was saying too. And I felt rather sad when he passed.
What a kind man. Seems to be not beaten down by having to present as straight in anti-gay America and Hollywood. Loves animals. Funny, able to laugh at himself. Articulate, loves learning, self-aware. Would love to have had him as a friend! Sweet. 💕🐝
What an unusually articulate, intelligent and interesting gentleman. I am now going to look for his autobiography and film Tab Hunter Confidential, and check out his movies. ⭐
A great interview of a man who saw it all in Hollywood and still remained an unspoiled student of film making AND and very nice guy. I could have watched several more hours of this.

He seemed to have maintained his level headedness in light of his star status. He seemed to be very appreciated of his opportunity. He was very complimentary of everyone-even those who he didn't particularly like. Lastly, his memory was impeccable.
@@dipdo7675 Yes, I do know that. BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT YOUR WORDS IN DISPARAGING SOMEONE whether they are alive or dead and be sure you can PROVE what you say, even if you are being kind. I saw Tab Hunter in a playhouse 90 production. It was the story about a young killer. I was impressed with what a fine actor that he was. I don't think he got the credit he deserved.
He was charming in 'Damn Yankees' with a lovely singing voice. Very interesting to hear him discuss his disagreements with director George Abbott. Admire him for standing his ground and performing the role his way, not just copying Stephen Douglass's stage performance because he was 'told' to.
I just watched Island of Desire and Tab Hunter has such boyish charm and innocence that you can’t help but feel for him. He may have been green he was only 20 and untrained - but he definitely had the talent and the star quality. The film was a hit in the day and you do get the sense that Tab Hunter and Linda Darnell had a good time making it. The island and his character are delightful.
I just watched this film yesterday too and I loved it!! He definitely played his part very well and like you said you can't help being sad for him, I mean I am a 32 year old woman pretty much like Linda Darnell in this film and I can't imagine to fall in love with a 20 year old boy so I understand her point of view, but at the same time I felt for him because he is so nice and innocent and very much in love with her, the way he said at the end of the film that he was born too late broke me in pieces but I think It was the final was well done and It was common sense
My mom told me that she took me to meet Tab Hunter when I was a baby, because she was a big fan and wanted to meet him. He remarked on my blond hair, which we both had in common. So, I guess I met him even if I don't remember it.
That movie where Tab talks about loving to meet, act with and hang with Fred Astaire is "The Pleasure of His Company" (1961) and you can watch it on TH-cam. It is one of the last of the sophisticated drawing room comedy/dramas, before that genre hit its expiration date. Lili Palmer is delightful and gorgeous in the film. Too bad Tab and Lili didn't hit it off. The movie is thoroughly delightful and Fred Astaire deserved an Oscar nomination for his performance as Debbie Reynolds' bon vivant charmer of an absentee father who wreaks havoc on her wedding plans when he unexpectedly shows up to give away the bride.
I’m delighted to find your comment re-“The Pleasure of His Company”, one of my favourite films too. Lili Palmer really does hold it all together and her timeless beauty and charm still delight but I wonder why she and Tab did not get along?
I toured the Warner Bros lot in the mid 70's. A friend knew someone in the head office who got me and another guy on the studio lot. Saw quite a few stars that day.
There’s a scene in Modern Family where Mitchell and Cam are feeling a bit old. They go to a gay club where the crowd is mostly younger than they. Then Cam takes Mitchel to a gay bar were the men are mostly older. One of them men comes up to Mitchel and says “Has anyone told you you look like a young Tab Hunter?” Mitchel whispers to Cam for context and Cam indicates that Tab was a heartthrob. I wonder if Tab ever saw that. Pretty cool, Modern Family! 💕🐝
I was very surprised by the number of well-known movies that he appeared in, because the only one that I remember him from is "Damn Yankees!,"--in which he was very good. I saw "The Loved One" a long time ago, but don't remember his being in it.
I’m just getting into all the old time actors and actresses thanks to TH-cam, and I’ve been intrigued by Tab Hunter, this is the first thing I’ve seen just about him and omg he is so so lovely!! Bless ❤
Watch Island of Desire and Return to Treasure Island back to back, he's alone in an island with a girl in both movies, they have similar vibes, i love to watch them from time to time in a easy going afternoon, i also enjoy Ride The Wild Surf, BattleCry and The Girl he Left Behind. He was definitely comfortable in his "own skin" so to speak, unlike those other angst-plagued actors. And yes, good looking at that age. If I looked anything like him, I'd take no prisoners! ;-)
`Wild` Bill Wellman used to take the LA buses in the later years and one day I saw him on the Hollywood bus with friends. Even as an old man, he was stunning. Something very charismatic, genuine and fine. I was teaching at USC at the time, the first course in gender in film. I was paidabgut $500 so could not afford a car, the insurance, repairs, garage.
