Capacitors have the quickest discharge. So it is 'preferred' to put it closest to the amp. This way, it can take most of the demand (power-draw) and save your battery the hassle of doing it. But as long as you have it 'somewhere' in the chain, you will see benefits.
Just some input on wire. Your counting strands but each manufacturer uses different diameter strands and when u use tinned ofc u lose even more copper diameter so when u say this 4 gauge is equal to 2/0 your equation is not working. For example weigh the wire you have compared to sky high or any premium cable and you'll notice a huge difference because of the copper weight difference. You really should be running two runs of the 1/0
Yeah I cringe a little when he says his oversize 1/0 is equivalent to 4/0 welding wire... Not even close. I can't fit my 4/0 copper welding wire into my Taramps MD 8ks inputs. But I digress, we are all learning. I learn something new every day.
He's actually going by the wire core diameter that knukonceptz posts. They list their 1/0 wire as having a 12mm diameter. AWG lists 4/0 as having 11.7mm diameter. This is why he states its equivalent to 4/0. I personally measured it to be 10.5mm which is about 3/0 size. They say their 4ga is 8mm (just under 1/0 specs of 8.25mm), but I measure 6.5mm which is about 2ga (9.3mm). I'm sure the tin coating adds to the size, but it also carries current so I doubt it inflates the diameter very much. I doubt you would see any difference in weight compared to SkyHigh tinned ofc cable. I believe they are also slightly oversized just like KnuKonceptz.
@@Widowmaker2828 I believe the MD8000 is listed as having 2/0 inputs. You need to measure their inner diameter to see if it matches 2/0 specs which is 9.3mm. Technically you should not be able to fit 4/0 (11.7mm) wire into a 2/0 (9.3mm) hole.

So the impedance value will change based on frequency. As you go up or down the power output will change. I would see what the impedance is at different frequencies without recording. Seeing where the current draw is.
Your clamp meter is set on AC current/amps. I'm not sure that model clamp meter will measure DC current/amps. The LCD screen says AC . Also measure on the positive leads too.
I'm not gonna lie. I've been scared to get into the lithium. I've got 5 kids and it makes me nervous. So I'm glad ur gonna drop some knowledge on that! I've stuck to my AGMs. But I wanna get a bass 8k, and I'm gonna need that lithium power, ya know.
Yeah, it could be very dangerous if not done correctly and sometimes dangerous 'when' done correctly. Usually because of other components though. I think a lot of people are going to be a little shocked at what I say about it.
People are dumb with lithium they hook it right up to there 350amp alt that is made for a battery with a high ohm load but lithium is sub ohm stupid low ohm load so the alt never stops charging at full power And lithium has to be charged in a stepdown manner or else it kills the battery real quick
13 v with test tone that's awesome people have to remember muis it a lot easier on everything cos alot more dynamic so the cap will have time to get a bit of charge time in between so Voltage drop will be alot less
I thought u said have the ultracap closest to the starter ,then put the amp close to the cap???? In my car my lithium battery is in the trunk and my cap would have to be under my seat where the factory battery used to be and my amp in the middle of the lithhium battery and the cap. Is that ok? Cause i dont have no under the hood battery
I been running lifep04 lithium for about 3 months now and its great. Only problem is trying to run it along with agm batteries. The lithium definitely needs to be isolated from the agm when the vehicle is off bc the lithium has a resting voltage of 13.2 and the agm is 12.8. The agm will drain the lithium if not isolated. I built my own battery and its been great tho. Plan to have all lithium and a bank of super caps very soon.
Just wanted to add that SparkEd and Richard Vedvik also have some informative videos on Supercaps...Ultracaps... and how they work in conjunction with your existing batteries.
@@BudgetBassHead he works @ or used to work for Showtime Electronics and now works at his own business at sparked Innovations and is a dealer for xs power
I’ve tested my super cap by dropping the voltage down to about 10.5-11v, when starting a civic. It did very well for starting, but what was weird to see was the voltage gauge go up slowly instead of instantly (70amp factory alt) I think it took about 4-5 seconds to fully charge.
Grab it, I got the sb-630 little over half a yr ago. It's good to right where my voltage runs it says no more than 14.3 I'm running at 14.2. Xs power told me I'd get far more out of it since my voltage can fill the caps most the way. I now have 2- 72ah banks of headways feeding the sb630 AND a couple agms. My voltage is seriously solid. Even at a light thumping, ac and lights on I don't see less than 13.8. If you go that route you'll be happy
So no fix on the box rise or impedence rise? After i seen yours it made me wunder so i started doing mine. I have two sa15d4 rev3 in a 2020 kia Optima special edition pushed by taramps 3k smart. I have wired at 4ohm final. The sound quality is beautiful but a ran my impedence and couldn't believe what i was seeing. Going to wire down to 1ohm hopefully help with that issue a little. There has to be a way to combatant the rise. Or buy an amp thats way more powerful than whats need to compensate. Id love to hear what youve learned. Awsome videos. O and the rifle is beautiful. Keep up the great work we appreciate all of your time you dedicate to us and all the great info.
With box rise you definitely want to get a bigger amp like if your subs or 1krms a piece you buy a 3k amp be cause your going to rise atleast 2 to 3 ohms and that 3k at 2 ohms will be like 2k so your subs will get the power they need some would even suggest a 4 k amp for a 2krms situation.
My main thing is I plan on running 2-3 in the back of car on 3 5ks. But I also have an ho alternator coming in the mail and a big 3 to do with 0 gauge running through the car. But you say keep as close to the power source, will there be a noticable difference? I plan on charging up to 16 volts.
Hey bud I don't comment much but I need to correct you on something if you're willing to learn. When you pulled out one of the RCAs on the amp and said now it's 2 volts is wrong. Each one Will show the same voltage if checked with meter. Derek Haddock with Sundown showed this in a video. The channel is Sundown unofficial
I'm here to learn or help. How about doing a video testing this theory. I think there would be a mythe confirmed or mythe busted. Either way we would know. Just a thought.
@@BudgetBassHead I thought the same thing about the “inputs are summed internally ” line in my old school MMATS amp install book and was concerned about frying my inputs by giving them too much voltage from my line driver so before putting it back in service I took to the forums and emailed the manufacturer. What I learned was 1) you can fry rca inputs if you run the above recommend voltage (how far above or for how long???) 2) most amplifiers don’t give you more power (or at least not enough to be worth it) above recommended rca voltage. And 3) inputs summed internally means the signal not the voltage is summed. The person I was talking to in the forum got really technical trying to explain the why for me at this point and completely lost me. MMATS emailed back months later with a single sentence saying rca voltage is not added between the inputs. Something to look into

I’m pretty sure on the taraamps they don’t have left and right inputs on mine the red is a single rca in and the white rca on bottom is a single rca output
No, a voltage regulator would pull more amps to maintain the voltage. That's basically what the amp is doing. It's trying to put out more voltage to the sub by drawing more amps. You need power to make power.

Which power source would you put in the back of the car to supplement the North Star under the hood? How would you wire it? I've been kind of stuck on this question for about a month now.
I'm having trouble connecting blue tooth with the ultra cap. How does it work. Do I down load a app
Yes. The uSTART app by Ioxus.inc. get it in the Google Play Store
@@BudgetBassHead thanks I got it. I don't see the purpose of it but I'm in. It's just tell me what my voltage looking like. I thought I could do more. What it is the purpose of the blue tooth???? I thought it would give me options to do things
Also measure on the positive leads too.
good catch 👍 I'll explain this in the next video.
@@BudgetBassHead love your channel
I'm not gonna lie. I've been scared to get into the lithium. I've got 5 kids and it makes me nervous. So I'm glad ur gonna drop some knowledge on that! I've stuck to my AGMs. But I wanna get a bass 8k, and I'm gonna need that lithium power, ya know.
Yeah, it could be very dangerous if not done correctly and sometimes dangerous 'when' done correctly. Usually because of other components though. I think a lot of people are going to be a little shocked at what I say about it.
People are dumb with lithium they hook it right up to there 350amp alt that is made for a battery with a high ohm load but lithium is sub ohm stupid low ohm load so the alt never stops charging at full power
And lithium has to be charged in a stepdown manner or else it kills the battery real quick
This exact super cap has a recall for blowing up
I'm scared of that lithium too
@wooleezy318 well I've been using it almost 2 years now. And I could never go back lol. The voltage is just too solid!👌
13 v with test tone that's awesome people have to remember muis it a lot easier on everything cos alot more dynamic so the cap will have time to get a bit of charge time in between so Voltage drop will be alot less
Did you ground the cap to chasie are neg on amp? Were all the negative run parallel?
Ground to chasie
Lifepo4 can be ran with a agm. But lifepo4 works better without and voltage will rest higher
Just wanted to add that SparkEd and Richard Vedvik also have some informative videos on Supercaps...Ultracaps... and how they work in conjunction with your existing batteries.
Yep Ed works for XS Power, who now owns this product. Thanks for the info!
@@BudgetBassHead he works @ or used to work for Showtime Electronics and now works at his own business at sparked Innovations and is a dealer for xs power
The cap also helps your voltage recover alot quicker
I’ve tested my super cap by dropping the voltage down to about 10.5-11v, when starting a civic. It did very well for starting, but what was weird to see was the voltage gauge go up slowly instead of instantly (70amp factory alt) I think it took about 4-5 seconds to fully charge.
@@russelllopez4171 I'm sure it depends on alot of factors. Car, alt, battery etc......
U ran the test I've been waiting for in order to decide to purchase this xspower super cap..🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘💯. Thanks
If you haven’t bought one, droppin hertz has b stock for $199 I just bought one a couple weeks ago. That’s 1/2 price! 😉
Will one be good enough for the big boss 8. I heard I may need two but I don't have room for 2
Thanks Steve!
Looking forward to the lithium vids!!
Infoknowledge thanks bro.
LOL, you need some non slip pads for under that box.....it was sliding...LOL Those amps a great
Good stuff bbh.thanks a ton for the time to produce HIGH QUALITY COMTENT..
BTW I'm running a rp 3500 later going to replace it with a Taramps smart 5k
Thanks for the support💯 1 ohm tuning makes all the difference with these amps. Hope it works out. Keep us posted👍
With box rise you definitely want to get a bigger amp like if your subs or 1krms a piece you buy a 3k amp be cause your going to rise atleast 2 to 3 ohms and that 3k at 2 ohms will be like 2k so your subs will get the power they need some would even suggest a 4 k amp for a 2krms situation.
my damn ultra cap stays with the yellow light flashing. How do I make it solid?
Whats da difference between the ultracap an ustart ultra cap if any an them headways are great
My main thing is I plan on running 2-3 in the back of car on 3 5ks.
Derek was talking about Y-Splitters; not dual headed cables. And aren't the RCA's voltage summed internally? Thanks for the comment.
I'm here to learn or help. How about doing a video testing this theory. I think there would be a mythe confirmed or mythe busted. Either way we would know. Just a thought.
@@leewheeler1504 There's an idea for some unique content, you got my vote.
Something to look into
Can you pair this with a lead acid battery
I'm asking the same thing. Can't find the answer anywhere.
💡You just proved everything you've been explaining!👍 Also a lot of people don't know this, but all those limitless cyber edition batteries have in them is 19ah's of lithium and 2 cell's of these caps in both the cyber 6k and the 12k😂👍
Wow. That's great info to know 👍
Well you dont know much about cells
@@KnowName33 Well please enlighten me with the knowledge you hold so i may learn😔
@@catherineharris4746 if it only had two cells in it then that would make it an 8 volt battery because it best you're only going to get 4.2 volts out of a lithium cell so it would need a minimum of 4 cells
@@KnowName33 you do know there is many different types of cells out there do you know the cells within the cybers?
Those distribution blocks on the ultra caps, do you have to buy them separately?
Yes, they are Vgate brand. You can find them on Amazon. The ones he's using are about $38 a pair.
I'd love to see this test using batteries that cost the same as the cap. Just for giggles and experimentation.
Coupled with some glowe voltage lithium you'll be golden . Get the ioxus b stock for $129. It's a steal. Buy em now before they don't exist
yo i have the series 2 and was thinking about using one of these to help with drop. Everyone is saying i can't charge at 14.8 with the cap.
Your voltage drop so im guessing you have your converter set to charge instead of fix. I have my set to fix along with an agm and it holds at 14.4v (set mine at 14.4v). Not sure if i should leave at fix or charge setting.
Can I run one of these with a agm under the hood and a D4S LTO 6 ???
I’m pretty sure on the taraamps they don’t have left and right inputs on mine the red is a single rca in and the white rca on bottom is a single rca output
Its all worth it. Would a regulator help in order to control the voltage drop and stabilize the voltage flow? Good job bro!
No, a voltage regulator would pull more amps to maintain the voltage. That's basically what the amp is doing. It's trying to put out more voltage to the sub by drawing more amps. You need power to make power.
Farrads, Ferrels, Ferris Beuller perhaps?
Ok I see electrical os a factor now if it's not to much to ask what about the box it's self big vs small ported vs sealed single sub vs 2
14:00 is on AC, shouldnt DMM be on DC?
Good catch👍 I'm working the follow up video right now. A BIG mistake on my part. Open mouth... Insert foot... 🤫
Just ordered my uc. What size post are your distribution blocks. M6?
Ok so just cause I'm still kinda lost.. with car audio in a car you want this closest to the amp or the starter?
Place it closest to the source demanding the most amp draw.
hey I got a question for you I have 2018 ford f150 super crew cab I have on back Costin box subwoofer with 4 8" subwoofer have two amp one have 1200 In the other amp 2000 I need to put a capacitor So my lights from inside den flashing
Hello would you happen to know the 4-Digit pin to enter when pairing the battery to your phone mind refuses to pair
What video editing software do you use? I'm just finding your channel and loving it!
I like your content. Keep it up I've already learned a lot on your channel.
Awesome, thank you!
Can it be ran with lithium? Was thinking of getting one to add, I have a 32 ah headway bank.
I plan on running 2x 3k watt amps..one for bass and other for mids and highs… would just adding this cap be enough ? Or would I need a bank of lithium batteries? I also may have another amp but may only be 1k watts for 2 10” mids and horns …
Add that lithium
Voltage will drop but will rebound at lightspeed with that supercap.
Question..... Does the run light goes off after it charge, when the car is off?
So im running the skar 150.4 and a cab45 on door sleakers and two vxf12s. I installed a brandx 320 ho alt and big 3 , running stock battery on engine. Do you think this ultra capacitor will help and be good for the power draw im probably never going to full tilt and never run my system with car off. What do you think. It was this or the xs power d3400
I want to hear more about the ioxus
Hello I'd like to start out by saying I love your car audio videos I have one question about the ulra capacitor UC31 I have one AGM in the front and 1 AGM in the back doyou think I will get a better result by moving the AGM from the back and replacing it with uc31
Thanks for sharing 😊
Awesome video man. Glad to see someone put the Taramps to the test. Sharing these videos with friends. Educate. Peace bro
Steve Harvey doing battery review
Do you have to charge these before installing
The manual calls for 370a of reserve battery.
Hi do you need to charge it before putting it in the car
No. It has internal circuits that doesn't allow it to power on until it's sees 13 volts or better.
so i just got a MD 5k.1 mono so what should we be okay with to power it without damaging the amp? please help
Will a deep cycle battery work
Im running a bass 8k taramps with a 150 amp stock alternator agm battery up under the hood and 3 112 ah in the back right close to my amplifier? At full tilt 13.0 volts? But I never go full tilt because im daily driving so volume half way up 14 .2 volts that's all I need now competition different story
Does the ultracap work when the engine is off?
anyone know what size nut the terminals take? just got one bstock and came with no nuts
Love your videos! This helps a ton. Why double the wires to the cap? Power and ground. Necessary or overkill? Thanks
It was cheaper to buy another run of 4 gauge than zero gauge at the time. That has changed recently, though. All zero gauge in the car now.
That cap is under $300 now 9/22
just put one in and its making my amp go into protect and back out rapidly, i test it on a bench and it doesnt do it, take it out and put a battery in its place and the amp stays on just fine whats up with thag
Can you run two of these capacitor banks in paralle with agm batteries?
Yes that's the way these were designed as starting batteries for transport trucks
@@BudgetBassHead Thank you my brother!
I'm only running a 1500 watt amplifier and thinking about upgrading to 2500 but that will be it. 1x VXF 15.
Currently, I have a North Star AGM battery under the hood with 840 CCA. 1/0 awg skyhigh+ big 3.
My question is about adding a second battery in the back. I have been told I need another AGM and was going to just get another of the same and wire in parallel.
Now I wonder if I should be getting an ultra cap instead? The North Star battery is great.
Which power source would you put in the back of the car to supplement the North Star under the hood? How would you wire it?
I've been kind of stuck on this question for about a month now. I would like to solve it.
Edit: stock alternator btw.
First monitor your voltage. If you dip closer to 10 v then you will probably need another AGM battery. If your voltage dip closer to 12 v then an ultra capacitor will benefit you greatly.
