I just got a Champion 5kW duel fuel generator that produces a lot of anti-mosquito fog. I did check the oil dip stick and it appears to be the right level (after confirming the manual [online search] and what you said here). The motor seems to run smooth overall without extra popping or searching. The smoke did die down a little as it warmed up and as it reached full temp, it started smoking badly again. I'm guessing maybe there's a small crack in the gasket that's changing shape as the temperature changes. After watching this video my next diagnosis will be to check the head gasket. Thanks for the very informative and detailed explanation of what causes the smoke. And you kept it short, too. Awesome job sir. 😎

One thing with honda gens with tank above sometime the needle valve in the carb can leak so engine sump fills crankcase up with petrol if oil pours out of oil filler it maybe fuel .this chaps done a great video 👍
would the blown head gasket also take a few second after start up to smoke ? I have a yamaha I changed the rings on and it looked absolutely mint inside and out. Even the rings looked fine. Changed the valve seal just as a precaution but didnt have a head gasket in my kit. After seeing your video, I think its seeping by the stock aging head gasket enough to cook some oil. The stock head gasket is metal but I will go ahead and replace it now, its smoking just like before. The head comes off relatively easily and I ordered a new head gasket regardless. I just did reason number one... just as you described :( if I let the extra oil out will it burn off the excess oil residual and be OK? Or will I need to take it apart and clean it before running it?
If it's still able to run and you now have the oil at the correct level, then it should burn the oil out of the combustion chamber on its own. Might take a little bit (depending on how much was in there), but you should see it become less and less.
Do you know how long gour 6 volt batteries into two 12 volt can last with internet as ND 36* TV with fire stick,,? Any formula for watts used per hour if st 13,,, charge? I could understand this... thanks
Hey, I replaced the spark plug and I think I strip some threads, but it fits perfectly but now it’s smoking, is it because some aluminum slits fell inside? What should I do
probably also dropped some metal in there to score the cylinder. Dont attempt things like this if you are not even sure how to replace a spark plug. Sorry it may sound mean, but a spark plug change is a very simple job.

The oil level was lets say 50 % full and I filled it with Sae30 and uber filled it . I filled it with fresh petrol and did not clean the tank . I had a few pulls and with starter pilote it starts . And stops - but when it starts running - it very hard to start - membrane will be new. I have never seen a BS burning oil like that . Put the oil level back at 50% and - smoke dissapeared almost . When I put the power to full, smoke ! When I choke the airfilter - white smoke ! I pull the carterventilation off - smoke continues when hand on the airinlet . I have compression, and no pressure in Carter . But I have compression in the airinlet, the choke clacks open en close - a bit air comes out the inlet of the carburator .. But still smoke . I checked the valves - one thing for sure The inlet valve opens snd closes, but does not rotate fast . ( marked it) Where do I have to look ? The head gasket? The valves ? They look good to me ? Just curious what people think . I love B&S and I can’t think this engine has ceased to be.. thanks in advance for the answers .
Please answer: our generator is a 9.5 kva diesel engine, when I start it, the some is still normal, like no smoke at all, and later after it is running for almost 2 hours and the generator wil shake, and the thick white smoke will come out. What is happening? What should I do? (btw the only things plugged in are a refrigerator and some light bulbs)

I also have a duromax 4000 that runs like a top, only thing I use it for a 2 inch submersible pump at work, it will pump water for a minute then stops producing power for like 30 seconds then back to pumping etc, frustrating when you're trying to pump a hole out at work

I'm aware that the old manuals on the Sportman 1000i used to say to add 10oz (I believe) which is too much and they would burn oil like crazy since they are supposed to only have about 7.5oz. My Sportsman just started blowing white smoke like crazy and I also have smoke coming from the dip stick when it's removed -- so I know that I have either piston rings that failed or a blown head gasket to allow that exhaust to enter the crankcase. Unfortunately, it's not worth the fix since I don't even think they sell replacement parts and the time involved into tearing into it is probably not worth what it would cost to buy a new one. I'm definitely upgrading next time to a reputable brand. If you have another reason to add as to why there's white smoke, I'd love to hear it. I love learning and sharing what I know.
@@HomeBatteryBank if you look at these Sportsman 1000 watt inverter schematic parts list you'll see what is called a one-way valve that's in the bottom of the crankcase mine was defective (bent)by high pressure the result-- I guess from blow by from the piston how that works is lubricating the rocker arm assembly on top of the head any overflow is taking back around to the carburetor when defective forces too much oil into the carburetor which then smokes

Great video man. Ive seen intake valve seals go bad too and leak into the combustion chamber. But yeah, mostly over fill or internal head gasket leak.

You are pretty much screwed if you stripped the threads. Could try to rethread them with tap n dye.

General overfill it will fix itself by smoking less n less… that was my prob n a good stabilizer don’t hurt
I have a sportsman 7000 it is leaking oil from the muffler any ideal what is the cause for this. It starts and after a few seconds it cuts off

I over filled my predetor with oil, lots of white nasty smoke. After several attemps of oil removal the smoke dissapeared

So my problem was caused by reason 1 but it han't turn off when I switched it off it just kept going
