    There's a lot of truth in this. Being able to read music has helped me figure out drum parts so many times when I was able to obtain the sheet music. Sometimes, if there is a fill I just can't get, I'll listen to it over and over and write it out as I listen to it. Then, it's much easier to learn and remember that part.

    Good topic, but would like to hear more about advantages of reading music. In your written example, the crash cymbal is notated on the third space from the bottom. But this is normally where you find snare drum, snare rim shots, etc.
