So helpful! This is basically a way for Princeton to screen for whoever is related to a professor there or anyone with elite connections. You don't have a snowball's chance in hell at being given a fair shake until all of the kids who are related to the university, talented or not are admitted.
Please make videos on ur routine life at Princeton. A day in life of kinda videos. Some tips on how you study at Princeton? Effective study tips? How you make connections with teachers? How you maintain grades at Princeton? How you balance social life and acaedemic pressures of Prinston?

Sorry about that! I try to make my videos accessible for everyone. You can probably find the contact information for your college’s admissions office online, you don’t need a guidance counselor all that much. Hope this helps!
Hey Greg, Fantastic channel! So glad I discovered this! I had a quick question- I heard you mention that your grades dropped senior year. How bad was it? I'm asking because so did mine (I have the worst case of senioritis!), and I'm worried my first semester's 1B and 1C will be a red flag to all the colleges I'm applying to. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks!
This video is so clear and helpful! I just got my deferral from Princeton yesterday, and I am ready to fully put myself forward and hopefully convince admissions why I should be there. It is so comforting to see so many people who have been deferred from Princeton and then ended up getting in. Thank you for making such supportive and informational videos!
Our local high school offers math courses at Princeton. Maybe I'll see you there! (Except I'm only in eighth grade right now, so that will have to wait XD)
Question, How do you get a high GPA with a rough school? I moved mid year my freshman year and got stuck with teachers nobody wants, lost being in honers classes, failed classes, and honestly don't think I can succeed at this high school at all. I hate 90% of the people, would not be surprised if a school shooting happened, and the teachers are super rough graders that take off massive points for the slightest technicalities. One night I typed up a 7 hour story, handed it to the teacher (everyone else had just 2 periods) and got below passes after it being my life's work to get a 60.
I’m sorry to hear about your situation. It seems like you commented on a different video and mentioned a difficult family situation that could’ve influenced your performance in school. The common app has a section to talk about these sorts of things, so I would definitely do that. I agree that high school grades can depend a lot on your teachers, and it really sucks that you got unlucky with that. There’s probably not much you can do this year besides continue to do your best, but I would sit down with an adviser/principal/someone in the administration to talk about how you’ve been treated unfairly and see if they can clear things up. Best of luck to you, and sorry again to hear of your unfortunate situation.
I'm deferred from Harvard REA. I don't know what I should do. I'm so scared to because Harvard is hard, and I'm not convinced that I'm good enough for Harvard but I'm deferred. Hey! I know you said to reach out to someone at the school and as of right now I’ve e-mailed one professor from my top school (Princeton University) and DM’d another student on Instagram. Since you’ve so graciously put out this video about how you got into Princeton and I’m a deferred student for the class of 2023 I was wondering if I could reach out to you as a contact at the school just to learn more about student life at the University. Thank you so much for the video in the first place!!
Greg Smith Awesome! Thank you so much. I sent one over to you :) It might be in your spam or normal inbox but it should be there as “Student Life at Princeton”!
Great video! So it seems like the earlier parts of the letter were addressing a “why Princeton” type question, talking about all the opportunities offered there you’re looking forward to. If the school I got deferred from’s app was basically a “why this school” question, what do you recommend talking about in substitute?
Great question! I would still keep the first paragraph sort of the same as mine, basically make sure to say that being deferred hasn't turned you off to the school. If possible, I would still include a section about "why this school," but you want to make it hyper-specific. Talk about a specific class that your friend at the school was telling you about, or a special program that interests you. It's okay to have a little bit of overlap with the supplemental essay, but definitely try to fit in some new points. It's imperative you rehash "why this school," because what you're trying to accomplish with this letter is demonstrate to the school that you are SUPER excited about it and it is your absolute number one choice. Hope this helped!

Thanks for the question! If you have a college counselor at your high school, they should be able to point you in the right direction. Otherwise, give the admissions office a call (if you look up xxx college admissions office you can find their number most of the time) and ask how they’d like letters of continued interest sent, because it depends on the school.
@@CollegeAdvisor Thanks for the reply - I'm in the UK so no counsellor but since I'm doing it for Princeton specifically I was wondering if you remember what they prefer from when you did it 2 years ago
Starting a club at my high school definitely made me nervous. It wasn't really common for someone to start a new club because there were already so many! I remember that I had to write an essay about what the club was going to be, and I had to have at least 10 people who said they were interested in joining. Once I had this, I sent the 'club proposal' to the student government, and they decided whether it would become an official school club or not. After that, the biggest issue was advertising and getting more people signed up for the club! Lots of high schools have 'club fairs,' if not you could ask to do an announcement at a major assembly or post to social media to promote your club. Best of luck!
Is it possible to call the admissions committee to see how close you were to admission? Would making a call like this be a good idea or could it harm my application? Thanks in advance Greg!

Hey Greg I have 2 important questions. Do you recommend sending the letter directly vs. email? Should the letter be no more than 1 page?
When did you send this letter? I got deferred and I'm wondering if its okay to send in the letter in a few weeks
I think it was mid-January for me. So that's fine!
How do you send the letter to them? Email someone, or upload onto the princeton portal?
Thanks for the question! If you have a college counselor at your high school, they should be able to point you in the right direction.
Otherwise, give the admissions office a call (if you look up xxx college admissions office you can find their number most of the time) and ask how they’d like letters of continued interest sent, because it depends on the school.
@@CollegeAdvisor Thanks for the reply - I'm in the UK so no counsellor but since I'm doing it for Princeton specifically I was wondering if you remember what they prefer from when you did it 2 years ago
@@Tylergreen111 I believe my college counselor emailed in my letter of continued interest.
@@CollegeAdvisor great, thanks!

Congrats!
What was the process of founding a club at your previous school and how was the experience ?
Starting a club at my high school definitely made me nervous. It wasn't really common for someone to start a new club because there were already so many!
I remember that I had to write an essay about what the club was going to be, and I had to have at least 10 people who said they were interested in joining. Once I had this, I sent the 'club proposal' to the student government, and they decided whether it would become an official school club or not.
After that, the biggest issue was advertising and getting more people signed up for the club! Lots of high schools have 'club fairs,' if not you could ask to do an announcement at a major assembly or post to social media to promote your club.
Best of luck!
Thank you for sharing!
You're very welcome!
Can you suggest any college admissions guide for international students who are currently doing IALs under edexcel curriculum?
Is it possible to call the admissions committee to see how close you were to admission? Would making a call like this be a good idea or could it harm my application? Thanks in advance Greg!
to which collèges do you present your admission?
What do you mean by that?
I got deferred from Northeastern yesterday and I really needed this video :) Do you think a boost in your Gpa is worth mentioning? My Gpa went from 3.8 to a 4.0
Absolutely!
@@ikranyusuf1419 where did you end up going? (From someone who applied EA to Northeastern)
Are you a freshman at Princeton? New subbie!
I'm actually a sophomore. Thanks for the sub!
Wow Greg! you are the best! Can I get an autograph?
Come and get it!
Can anyone please share the address where I can send the my letter?? Please. I want my letter to reach the Dean of the admission committee. Please help.
@Greg Smith Could you look at my personal statement? Thanks!
Check out my reply to your other comment on this video. :)
I NEEDED THIS VIDEO! My dream school is Georgetown university. I was deferred. One of my friends go there should I contact her
Yes! Talk to her and ask if she's taking any interesting classes. If she goes to office hours and mentions that one of her friends, who is a senior in high school, wants to learn more about research at Georgetown, I am 95% sure that professor will be happy to talk to you!
So did I !!
Sorry to hear that Ava! You got this, just follow the advice in the video to maximize your chances :)
What was your GPA? Ooh Do a stats video!
Haha maybe I will! For now, I just got done filming a video about extracurricular activities, should be up on Friday :)
How did you find the email for specifically Dean Rapelye to address it to her?
So if the college say "dont send us extra material", do I not send ? What else can I do ??
Ching Ying Vanessa Li He said don’t annoy them but from what I’ve seen, just keep your grades up and continue what you’ve been doing!
@@shawnx7230 Specifically, it is for MIT. I didn't get to show what I wanted to say in the additional info section when I hurried it for early action, would it be a bad idea to send them a email?
Hey Greg! Late reply here but I was wondering something about the names. If I know and have been talking with undergrad students who go to the school, should I talk about them along with the professors I conversed with?
Can a similar strategy be used if you've got a reject instead of defer?
Hey Greg, I was wondering how long it took for the professor to reply to your email.
Hi Reed, I actually ended up emailing 4-5 professors and got responses from 2, within ~48 hours.
Okay thanks!
@@reedamroue9965 No prob!
How long after you were deferred did you submit your letter of continued interest?
Thanks for watching, Nadim! I sent my letter of continued interest around mid-January.
Where did you send the letter?
This was super helpful! But, where do you send this email?
How can we reach someone
