    I started film making around 3 years ago now. I originally started in iMovie on an iPad. Later on, I upgraded to better software for a school project I wanted to do on "green screening." I can't look at that video today, but I've progressed so much, thanks to channels like Film Riot. Even the episodes I know have nothing to do with what I want, I enjoy and I can't count the number of times I've used things I learned from you guys. I've constantly impressed teachers at my school and film clubs with solutions to problems that I usually modified from you. Thinking about it, you're more than a teacher than my actual film teachers at school when it comes to filmmaking and the things I'm passionate about. I really want to thank you guys, I'm sure there are countless others like me who've also learned a ton from you guys. Love your work and videos, keep on finding ways to make helpful content for others, you have no idea how many people you've helped.

    "I always die a little inside when I have to say 'selfie' out loud." Most relatable.

      Wink Cinema I always refer to it as a "telescopic cellphone monopod". It a mouthful, but I don't have to say selfie, so there's that...

    I have an iPhone 7 plus myself and I have always been discouraged of shooting because I don't own any type of good camera or equipment. I always knew the iPhone could shoot amazing video but I just never tried it. Thank you so much for this video! I've always wondered what would work the best to get me started recording more pro looking shots. I've followed you guys for a long time and you never stop making speculator content.
    Keep It up!

    HUMOUR + QUALITY = FILM RIOT.

  • @LukeSkyWacka
    @LukeSkyWacka 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It's weird to see a production studio film with an iphone, but we've all seen the comments from fans wanting the DIY no budget filmriot back. It's cool to see you match the current studio quality with super cheap options though.
    This is a testament to just how insanely talented your studio is, more than the quality of the gear you use.. If I want to watch DIY stuff I go back to earlier videos. But currently I'm a big fan of the Large crew BTS and studio BTS being a PA in a studio myself. The Grip Tips videos were ADORED by my coworkers and I.

    • @filmriot
      @filmriot  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, man. Major things are being done with iPhones though. Steven Soderbergh just shot a feature on one.

    • @LukeSkyWacka
      @LukeSkyWacka 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Film Riot oh for sure! And tangerine was shot with a 5s using filmic pro and the moondog adapter you mentioned in the video. I guess the "it's weird" comes from the dissonance of being the source of content for creators of all experience levels while also wanting to expand and evolve your company to eventually be doing a feature and bringing the channel along for the ride. I learned about filmic pro the last time you did an iPhone only shoot for the Operation short.

    Hey RyGuy (mobile filmmaking super fan here) Thanks for touching on this subject.
    I've two additions.
    You neglected to talk about the counter weight from moondog lab you used on your osmo mobile. It's a game changer that finally lets you use big phones or additional lenses with the osmo mobile.
    I'd also toss into the mix "moment lenses" as they're a step up (imo) from the olloclip.

    One thing we try to let folks know is filming a video with a phone camera is different than to live stream film using Periscope or FB live (i.e. audio drift problems when you try to edit the footage ). Is that something you've addressed in earlier videos of how you edit live stream footage with this problem and others (or video quality where folks try to color correct). We're having problems finding it as it's something that comes up when folks pick our mind. Love your work and look forward to you up coming posts here and on your site. :)

    For 6 months I didn’t have a phone nor camera. But what I did have was connections. I’m 16, and was able to get sponsored by one of the leading movie studios in the world. Currently producing a show and using the equipment I got for free. So there are no excuses. You either find a way to make it happen or just give up. Film isn’t something easy, it’s stressful. It’s complicated. But all of that is what makes me love it. Beginning of this year, I got IMDb credits. Just hustle man. Find ways. Reach out to people via email or LinkedIn. Hustle. Be passionate and industrious.

    Do you think you could do a video on setting up a home "TH-camr" filming studio"? Mostly interested in lighting, backgrounds, and building a more permanent set up. Especially in tight spaces but that's just me. I'm interested in no budget and DIY, but low and high budget would be interesting too.

    Best lenses for mobile filmmakers are the Moment and Beastgrip glass kits. For Gimbals the DJI does not handle large phones, so you are better off with a Zhiyun mobile 5 setup.

  • @brandishwar
    @brandishwar 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    For storage, you should be able to use an OTG dongle. This'll give you ample storage options for a lot less than the one you quoted. Namely USB flash drives, of which 64GB can be found for 20 USD and less depending on brand, about 35USD for 128GB models. Just make sure to buy the USB 3.0 versions so you can fast transfer them from the drive to your computer.
    For Android phones, the USB OTG cable is only a few dollars, whereas for iPhone a little more expensive but still not too bad. And with USB flash drives dirt cheap, they can make a great storage option for this. And a lot easier than, in the case of my S7, having to open the SIM card tray to get to the microSD slot.
