Restoring A Broken Tonka Fire Truck - Part I

Part One of Two! Today I tear apart and begin the restoration and custom work on this tiny, rusty and forgotten Tonka Fire truck. When I first purchased this tiny Tonka I didn't realize it was missing the ladders and that most of the tabs that held them on were broken. What I thought would be an easy straight forward restoration turned into a custom fire truck as I build new ladders and sorted a way to attach them to the truck. Today I'll be tearing the fire truck apart and removing all the rust from the body using the sand blaster. I almost forgot the axles, but after using some Evapo-rust they come clean too. The plastics were stained with rust from the body which proved to be a challenge to remove. I thought Evapo-rust might dissolve the stains but I was wrong. After some thinking I tried vinegar and found it did the job well. Part II will be up quick so stay tuned!
