@@fizzywizzy0 its that when they mutate its one big creature so when the player with Etrata chooses one creature it would be that one and it exiles with all cards having a counter

There's a couple of picks that you need to be careful with here. Curfew will let your opponent remove the target or Etratta's ability so you can only use it to save her from removal - not to avoid her shuffle. Since Lightning Greaves give shroud, you can no longer target her yourself, so she will end up going to the command zone when you ability resolves and there's nothing you can do about it. I wouldn't consider them for an upgrade for that reason I think. Overall a great deck and one that I need to build myself at some point.
Da Scientist Giving her Shroud should be fine if you have non-targeting ways to dodge the shuffle, like Deadeye Navigator, Aetherize, Vanishing or any Ninjutsu creature
That's actually why I ended up taking Lightning Greaves out of the deck. I also have some clones in my deck, so a lot of the cards target, which is a nombo with them :\
Mitch, have you considered having gameplay episodes with budget decks? I love Game Knights, for example, but I’m getting sick of consecrated sphynx, blighsteel colossus, emrakul, expropriate, all the fetch lands and etcetera... We want to see budget decks we can build being played.
Hell yeah! I've actually been working on this deck for the past couple of weeks! This is going to help me a ton for mutate decks! Haha thanks as always Mitch!
OMG IT'S ONE OF MY FAVOURITE COMMANDERS YESSSSSSSSSS I remember building my deck and constantly working on it and updating it and trying to find better and better cards because it was the first deck I built and by gosh I would be damned if it didn't work! Then, magically, one day, everything aligned and I actually managed to win. I love this janky commander so much I even got the alternate art for her
An angle I'd consider against creature-light decks is to animate some of their permanents into creatures (the simplest way, off the top of my head, is March of the Machines). Note that the exiled cards don't need to be creature cards.
i made this deck in friendly brawl (commander with 60 cards) a week ago. with 60 cards, high flicker density, so i added some etb synergies (mainly the usual evoke suspects)
I wish the bounce strategy worked on mtg arena. I've tried it in brawl, but even in full control mode I can't respond to my own triggers... They really need to fix that.
I must say, I`m no friend of the Lightning Greaves as an Upgrade for this deck. Our goal is to Bounce Etrata back or blink her... With the Greaves shes not targetable for us. The only use of the Greaves is on the two creatures that tap to bounce or blink Etrata and this could be obtained with the other equipments, too. But I love this decklist and will get this deck as soon as possible to test it in my playgroup. Greetings from Germany :D
I wish this deck tech was made sooner. I already made my yuriko deck with Etrata as one of the 99, but I can still manage to keep her from shuffling due to having enough Ninjas and bounce spells.
I like Curfew as a removal spell (especially against a voltron deck), but I'm not convinced it fits the deck. If you cast in response to Etrata's trigger, the opponent will just bounce the creature targeted for exile.
Honestly I don't know why more people don't build with Reality Ripple and Vanishing. Since phasing doesn't actually cause the card to change zones, you can use it to dodge things like board wipes without losing any of the enchantments/equipments/counters on the card. Plus it works with tokens. Vanishing in particular is neat because it works equally well attached to your own or one of your opponents' creatures.
I have always loved etrata as a card, and I would love to see a $100 budget version of this decklist. Wish I had the capacity to donate to the patreon... sigh...
I've noticed a distinct lack of seleznia decks. I would like to challenge you to build nazhan revered blade smith with an equipment, combat trick and cat theme
Can someone explain how you're able to bounce Etrata while still triggering the hit counter? I'm probably misunderstanding here, but on the card it looks like they're both part of the same trigger
Some issues with this deck: It has little defensive ability if your opponent has ways to counter Etrata, either by preventing her from attacking or by preventing her ability. For example, a token deck just wrecks her, as her ability doesn't trigger properly with tokens (it exiles the token, removing it, but being a token, its gone and thus doesn't get a counter). Similar for any sort of Pacify ability or more simply Shroud and Hexproof. No legal target, no counter. And while Shroud and Hexproof wouldn't be the basis of a deck, it really only takes a couple monsters with either ability to destroy this deck. Too few monsters to combat it and the only real defense is targeted removal.. not saying decks never have flaws, just that this one has too many. The whole "prevent shuffling her into our deck" bit is a bit useless considering the rules state that, as your commander, you can choose to put her back into the command zone instead and just shuffle the deck without her in it (and I believe the shuffling happens even if you flicker her to miss putting her into your deck). Yes, this would increase her mana cost to resummon her, but assuming you have ways of giving her haste, that won't be increasing her cost much, and doesn't warrant a deck with so many targeted removals. I understand wanting to ensure you get one, but this just enhances the lack of defense issue. Many of these could be swapped out for cards that help out other ways. I mean, is paying 2 to return her to your hand so you can cast her for 4 really better than just letting her go to the command zone and casting her for 6? Especially when your opponent can just counter that, making you send her back to the command zone and pay 6 anyway? And the flicker effects may be more useful for preventing her removing herself, but they're less useful for defending yourself if they've already managed to stop her once. I think it would be better to swap some bounce and flicker effects for maybe more counterspells or creatures that can synergize a bit to also give you some defense. Not an awful deck, but not as good as your usual, in my opinion
Can someone explain why all the copy creature cards are synergistic in this deck? Is the notion to copy etrata as she is leaving battlefield? Can you copy and bounce to hand
Pro-tip: if you're opponent has any mutated creatures, they'll be exiled as separate cards with a hit counter on each of them. If your opponent has a creature with 2 mutations on it, you win in one hit.
Curfew seems like a really bad choice. You target their creature with her ability, then cast curfew, they're definitely going to bounce that creature to avoid the exile + hit counter
I tried to do the flicker thing for a etrada on arena and it doesnt give me the ability to cast a flicker spell before moving her back to the command zone (brawl) or library, can somebody explain why this is?
I feel like Lightning Greaves are really bad in this deck? About half the spells in this deck are supposed to be targeting your commander, and you can't do that through those fancy, fancy greaves.
A revised braingeyser is like 5-8 bucks and you draw x cards for one blue and x. It's gotta be a better draw spell than some of the budget draw spells. It's not like you want to be wheeling right? I'd say it's a reasonable upgrade 🤔
So... about the Ninjitsu bit, I've always seen it be that the card that cannot be blocked doesn't deal its damage, and instead the Ninja card does. So like, while this would get around commander tax shenanigans, its also you not playing with a commander in the first place. Am I correct in this assessment?
This deck does not work well because all of etrata’s triggers happen at once. This means you cannot bounce it back to hand or blink it before it goes back to the command zone.
False. The creature that you want to exile with a hit counter is targeted, which means this is a triggered ability put onto the stack, which you can then respond to that ability by blinking Etrata, phasing her out, etc. Then when the triggered ability starts to resolve, it does as much as it can, meaning Etrata isn't around anymore to be shuffled away, but the targeted creature still gets hit with exile.
Someone hit me with Etrata while I had 3 creatures mutated onto each other and I died immediately. It was awesome
