Very informative insights. Great tip regarding the changing flight modes, and that Mission Planner can override options selected on radio, or controller. As is the tip to test everything on the bench, NOT in the air. Thanks Ben and Lee.
ELRS v3.5 will add the ability to have rc controls with mavlink over the same link, so this will be doable with practically any radio in the future with no external mavlink telemetry adapters.
I'm looking forward to testing it. MAVLINK over the RC link isn't new, Crossfire has been doing it for years, but... It isn't as good as dedicated radios... Happy flying
The radio transmitter will need to have a wifi, or bluetooth hardware module so can communicate with Mission Planner on a computer/tablet. (not all have)
@@AerialWaviator If the transmitter module has USB, you can use that. Also, once this is added, who knows. Maybe EdgeTx will add the ability to send mavlink via USB. EDIT: Some better radios can already connect as virtual com port devices, so all you need is a lua script to give ardupilot the mavlink telemetry.
Thank you Lee and Ben for that helpful insight. Would it be possible to know more about setting the GCS failsafe when using a longer range command and control link please? I wondered if the Herelink is treated as the GCS instead of any separate datalink connected to Mission Planner.
Very interesting lesson ,thank you very much ! I have an interest to install and use later on of an - Logitech Extreme 3D Pro with an USB cable ,any suggestions how do I connect it to to my orange cube and what would be the way to make it work ?
Is there a way, using either Mission Planner or QGC, to map the on-screen switch between joystick pad and R/C Tx to a switch on the joystick pad or R/C Tx?

Very useful information, Lee and Ben! Thanks a bunch! 😃
Stay safe there with your families! 🖖😊

Good video. Bens a great guy.
WoW ! This was great, but I'm still learning INAV, but for mission planning this is great. Thanks for the video and info.

@@Painless360 Or LTE/4G link... e.g. UAVmatrix. Have been doing it on the bench, not yet flying.

If your using mavlink through your radio...qgc connected to radio...can you still use the radio for manual control?

The best place for more detail is the docs, see ardupilot.org/plane/docs/apms-failsafe-function.html

Setup would be exactly the same. Best of luck
Thanks for the video.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Can you elaborate?
Very interesting video but too many assumptions that you have a masters degree in Mission planner/Arduplane
