- Thokozile is a South African mbaqanga township jive 1986 hit, which appears also on the album of the same name released in 1987. (1988 in the UK).
The song is a re-recording of their 1960's song Sithunyiwe.
Thokozile is a girls name, meaning to praise, to be happy.
In the song, Thokozile is praised and congratulated on her marriage.
Simon 'Mahlathini' Nkabinde (aka The Lion Of Soweto), and The Mahotella Queens,
(Hilda Tloubatla, Nobesuthu Mbadu and Mildred Mangxola),
backed by The Makgona Tsohle Band.
(West Nkosi - sax, penny whistle, Marks Mankwane - lead guitar, Joseph Makwela - bass guitar, Lucky Monama - drums, Vivian Ngubane - rhythm guitar)
Sadly Simon 'Mahlathini' Nkabinde died in 1999,
West Nkosi, and Marks Mankwane, both died in the early 1990's.
Enjoy!
Ites!

Hello beautiful and lovely people across the globe, I came here again today Wednesday June 1st, 2022 to listen to this great tune. Let me know if you're here. Once again much love from Ghana 🇬🇭🇬🇭🇬🇭
I live in Maine . Listened to lots of African music over the years. Sometimes Gospel, King Sunny etc.
But this is the fist time I've heard this one! It's awesome
My best of times, long live music. Voice of Africa

Go!! Royal Queens Of AFRICA!! Among The AFRICANS!! Africa UNITE!! Let My People Think. One World. One Human Family.
I still listen to this amazing song! Bless the Mahotella Queens, Bless Mahlathini (RIP) and thank you for making my life feel so happy at times that are so devastatingly hard
I saw them in 1969, if I recall correctly, in Zomba, Malawi and then took my wife to see them all on tour at UCSB (Santa Barbara) in the mid-1980s. What a thrill. While their short skirts drove the Malawian guys crazy, it was their happiness, singing, hot African tunes, exceptional music and dance and, of course, their terrific groaner that wowed the audience. What an experience! I still have the CD.
Kusonyeza ndinu akwathu I remember my mother akakonda nyimbo izi zamake dzana pa radio 1 lero ndangowakumbukira

Great penny whistle playing. Reminds me of listening to the Solven Whistles in the 60’s.

love it never knew there was a video. One of the ultimate wedding songs :-)
I wish I got invited to weddings like that ;-)
I'm normally standing around bored to death preying the DJ doesn't play any more Wham!
I love the tone colour
This is so legendary. What is going on in this music? Communicating with other-worldly beings or something
Lol, nope. It's actually a Zulu wedding Song. A girl by the name of Thokozile is excited because she is getting married. Uncles (on the groom's side) have been sent to Thokozile's Parents to negotiate the terms of the wedding (almost like bride price, but not exactly). It's a beautiful song of excitement and celebration. The attire they are wearing is a traditional Zulu attire. Zulu's use to dress like this centuries ago. Now we dress like this for special occasions, and sometimes music videos that embrace our traditional customs.
@@kwaziduma1530 Fascinating, thank you. Whatever the topic, this music is inspirational and I love it. I had been listening to a lot of Mfaz Omnyana's music and when my brother heard he told me about this group.
2024 i have a sibling called Thokozile hahaaaa
My dad's favorite
Saw a BBC feature on The Lion Sleeps Tonight just cijple says ago featuring the M Queens, all in their 70s as they were the singers years and years ago. Not swaying as much, but hey they are 70s. Interesting, enjoyable.

What this song all about....just wondering?
The song is about the wedding of the beautiful Thokozile,
There is lots of dancing and singing... and the joy her husbands'
family brings, by giving a herd of heifer cows to her relatives
for her hand in marriage.
Sweet! Thanks!
