I've been making my own out of many different re -purposed items.. 20 lbs gas bottles, small compressor tanks(" pancake"), woks, steel barrel lids..... I'll try anything that inspires the organic, suits the tone range of materials ,And I got to stop as many of these from going to the land fill as I can reasonably handle. M in my 20s of completed recycle to resale ,, n I just hunted down another 26 different, various sizes, to keep me busy 4 a good while.. I construct xmall, durable, portable, burn -barrel/ grill from the waste parts of Drums
This video was so helpful. I've been playing ukulele and want to dip my toes into the tongue drum world. Been researching endlessly and watching TH-cam. For some reason i keep being drawn back to this particular Kosmosky drum you just shared. Others say, it's not a beginner drum and i dont wqnt to listen to them. But you, you make it look so user friendly and fun. Your video is very real. Im placing my order and will tell them you sent me. My heart says, this is the one.
I await your update on how you like it, and I’m excited for you! You won’t be disappointed. This really is an awesome drum, and in fact, it’s the most awesome beginner drum! You’re starting right at the top with the best, so you won’t be disappointed! It’s a great investment for somebody already understanding they want excellent sound. Just wait until the first time you play a few notes, you’ll know you bought the right one from a great company!!!
@@productreviewsinfo-atpoodl4071 the drum has been fantastic. I have been above and beyond pleased with the New Wave 15. More than pleased. Their customer service is above and beyond
I thought that both size mallets were included with the drum (based on another channel's review and demo.) I was so disappointed when I realized that they had to be ordered separately. I wish there was a US based source for them as shipping from Russia for this item alone makes it cost prohibitive. They are clearly much smaller in diameter than the usual rubber mallets that come with most tongue drums. May I ask what the diameter is of these tiny rubber mallets? I appreciate if you are able to respond and I thank you in advance!
Sorry for my delay, I hope this helps you: in placing the mallets directly on a ruler, the approx width/diameter of the mallet striking round end is 1 3/8in for the normal-sized felted mallets, and 5/8in for the smaller rubber mallet. I know the other video you are speaking of, and I nearly fell into the same situation as you. I have to say the felted mallets have a much prettier sound. This person also received a padded drawstring bag, and this didn’t arrive padded for me. I understand your shipping costs comment, which is why my channel aims to help explain choices. One thing I know for sure, Kosmosky is a talented group making wonderfully in-tune glorious sounding drums. Maybe your future includes another drum purchase where you can add on your accessories? You can still use “Shelly@Poodlehouse” to save 5% when your order on en.kosmosky.com, when that day comes. 🎶
Thank You for sharing your experience with this drum Shelley! Do you know whether there is an sheet music/music books to go with G major scale? I’m thinking of getting this drum but am confused by scales as I’ve had no formal music training. It seems most tongue drum books seem to be for D major. Could they still be used for Gmajor do you know?
I think you could ask this of Kosmosky, most definitely. Maria is quite helpful over there. I have no knowledge on this subject because I am strictly an improv player, so songbooks are not my thing. A music store may be able to help you, try calling?
There aren't music books out there for this kind of instrument. I have found a few youtubers making their own mixes of random popular songs but they are just numbers on paper and you have to already know the tune. Specific to numbered tongue drums with 11, 13, or 15 (the best) notes. I have seen no makeshift music books at all for a tongue drum with this specific layout. Kosmosky (pronounced cause-moss-key not cosmo-sky) New Wave 15 has their own unique layout that is different than traditional diatonic tongue drums. There are a few video song tutorials if you dig on their youtube site.
They had one made and reserved it for me, checked the tuning and sent it out in a couple weeks, which was fantastic! Now, I have 2 custom orders in, they have been just over 2 months with no product shipped yet, so yea a bit long. I understand summer is hard with their schedule of events as well as vacations. They are a smaller operation, with high quality instruments, in a country under attack. I know it will be worth the wait. I just hope the pictures I sent are near identical to what we receive. More to come on that. How long were your custom waits, and did it turn out like what you wanted for color? I think there was an oversight on referencing my picture, I just hope they can correct it to the picture.
Kosmosky can help you with scale options to purchase. I also think just listening to their videos on the different scales can be a great help. The truth is you probably want to get your son involved so he picks the one that he loves. I learned to play this drum just messing with it as I am very creative. I am an improv player, so I make everything up by experimenting. It’s a very relaxing thing, for me. If your son already plays drums and guitar, then please know that he will be very happy with the quality of Kosmosky!

Hi Shelly, I just ordered my New wave 15 and they gave me you 5% discount, thanks!
Really wish you'd put the jacket on it and given a demo of the way it changes the sound because I cannot imagine what that's like on these.
Thank you for the suggestion; I have a short video on the jacket sound on the New Wave on my channel. Maybe you found it by now?

Thinking about getting one. How long was the wait? Ive had long customs holds in the last with these.

How did you learn to play this drum.
I want to buy one for my 33 year old son as a gift but not sure what scale to purchase
He plays drums and guitar
Kosmosky can help you with scale options to purchase. I also think just listening to their videos on the different scales can be a great help. What are the notes on the drum?
I will need to send you a picture soon. It comes with note stickers, which helps one to quickly adapt to the instrument.
