Sorry for my delay, I hope this helps you: in placing the mallets directly on a ruler, the approx width/diameter of the mallet striking round end is 1 3/8in for the normal-sized felted mallets, and 5/8in for the smaller rubber mallet. I know the other video you are speaking of, and I nearly fell into the same situation as you. I have to say the felted mallets have a much prettier sound. This person also received a padded drawstring bag, and this didn’t arrive padded for me. I understand your shipping costs comment, which is why my channel aims to help explain choices. One thing I know for sure, Kosmosky is a talented group making wonderfully in-tune glorious sounding drums. Maybe your future includes another drum purchase where you can add on your accessories? First, I asked them how they would pronounce Kosmosky, and they said either way is fine. They actually sent me an audio of this. Second, happy to show more on jackets and plug in and out. Good suggestions, thanks and will do. Third, my short on the magnets… that is a type of Idiodrum that is sold with those magnets. The magnets shift around, as most are 2 magnets per tongue and attract each other. It was a frustrating experience, and I do not promote that company due to this. IMHO, Kosmosky is the drum that is worth this kind of money. Kosmosky builds a fantastic drum, right out of the box, the quality and sound is impeccable and is the place to go to invest in a wonderful drum. I do not own any other drums, except Kosmosky. I am very picky about sound and quality, which is why this channel was started, so I could help others with information it took me forever to put together. At the current time, white is the only color. I had them send me the white rim trim, and installed it on my drum, so in all my future videos you will see I now have this trim on it. It protects the edge and is easier holding it in the hands as for walking with it, or in your lap as it makes the area far more non-slippery. Hope this helps! As for this drum, it really is quite an impeccably tuned quality instrument… and I am super picky about quality instruments! I have 3 Kosmosky drums, I am very partial to this company due to the quality that they are.

I’m in USA WI. I’ve followed them with 4 orders. They always make sure to get things right, but realize that there is a language difference, so take the time to be very clear about your order. Only one of the four orders required a longer wait, because it was ordered during their busiest summertime where they were traveling a lot for their company. The shipment was super smooth, and I tracked it the entire way. L O L, it’s been in more countries than I have! Once it ships they got it to me in five business days! Those lights are an absolute must have, and I agree with you!!!

A stand is quite nice to have, and it folds flat with the pieces, so it’s easy to transport. It helps resonance. They have one size of stand, and it fits all of the tongue drums, both tank and New Wave. I’ll have to do a video on this. Thanks for your question.

I am trying to remember what my shipping was and I want to say maybe close to $75 or so for midwest USA? I don’t have my order receipt anymore so I don’t recall exactly. If you can get a drum on sale, it makes up for some or all of the shipping charges. Just be sure to order all your accessories in that order so that you don’t have another shipping expense to get accessories to you. I have the New Wave 15” Kosmodrum, and the larger dvutone tank drum.

Kosmosky can help you with scale options to purchase. I also think just listening to their videos on the different scales can be a great help. The truth is you probably want to get your son involved so he picks the one that he loves. I learned to play this drum just messing with it as I am very creative. I am an improv player, so I make everything up by experimenting. It’s a very relaxing thing, for me. If your son already plays drums and guitar, then please know that he will be very happy with the quality of Kosmosky!

You will get better. The way in which you strike is important, and then there’s a part about training your brain and hand independence. Remember you can play more than one tongue with each hand too. So many options and so much creativity, keep practicing!

the electroacoustic model has internal pickups that are connected to a connector which you can plug in an audio cable into the drum. Then you can plug the other end of the cable into an amplifier for sound amplification. If you don't plan to connect it to a speaker/amplifier, you don't need to get the electroacoustic model.

As above but you can also change the sound to an amplifier with in line extra reverb mixer: tonguepan>mixer>amplifier

Electro-accoustic has a pickup installed; you can hook this up to an amp. Accoustic does not have a pickup.

I know what you mean, and I’m about to end up with both. I have a 35cm dvutone b-minor 11a meditation drum coming in about 3 or so weeks. Happy to do a comparison and unboxing soon. They had one made and reserved it for me, checked the tuning and sent it out in a couple weeks, which was fantastic! Now, I have 2 custom orders in, they have been just over 2 months with no product shipped yet, so yea a bit long. I understand summer is hard with their schedule of events as well as vacations. They are a smaller operation, with high quality instruments, in a country under attack. I know it will be worth the wait. I just hope the pictures I sent are near identical to what we receive. More to come on that. How long were your custom waits, and did it turn out like what you wanted for color? I think there was an oversight on referencing my picture, I just hope they can correct it to the picture.

I think you could ask this of Kosmosky, most definitely. Maria is quite helpful over there. I have no knowledge on this subject because I am strictly an improv player, so songbooks are not my thing. A music store may be able to help you, try calling?

There aren't music books out there for this kind of instrument. I have found a few youtubers making their own mixes of random popular songs but they are just numbers on paper and you have to already know the tune. Specific to numbered tongue drums with 11, 13, or 15 (the best) notes. I have seen no makeshift music books at all for a tongue drum with this specific layout. Kosmosky (pronounced cause-moss-key not cosmo-sky) New Wave 15 has their own unique layout that is different than traditional diatonic tongue drums. There are a few video song tutorials if you dig on their youtube site.
