    Glad you're back. Took me 3 days to watch 😂 and I'm glad I did. I will be joining your Ranunculus KAL, even though I have made it before. This time I hope to try suri alpaca with it. Keep going on the crochet top, who cares if it takes you a few months or years, work on it in between your knitting challenges.

    Oh, hahaha - I thought Katy was a yarn dyer and just went back to Episode One for the drama. You were 10 minutes into the carrot story before I realised she is an aplaca. For a minute there, I *actually* believed you were trying to feed carrots to some unsuspecting woman and her kids. 😂😂😂

    Yeah, don't sweat having frequent or regular episodes. What I like is you're just a regular person doing a hobby. Don't make it so it becomes something you hate or too much work. Enjoy summer.

    Another thoroughly enjoyable episode. 😊 I really don't want to see your creating videos become a source of stress, because then it will no longer be fun for you. I, and I'll bet most of your other viewers, would rather that it be a fun thing that you do when you can. Had absolutely no problem with this being a long video! Jeeze, you love Malabrigo, watch Amy Palko, love Wisconsin, you make beautiful projects and you make me laugh. What more can one ask?! Since a ranunculus is a flower, maybe you could call your KAL Ranunculus - The Late Bloomer KAL. 😄 Thank you for sharing your crafty goodness with us!

Looking forward to challenging myself with brioche, as you did, in a month or so 🤔 and your September Ranunculus event (I'd never heard of it so totally missed the boat!). I don’t know if this comment is too late, but advice from a crocheter: use stitch markers while doing your initial chain. I put mine on every 20 chains, especially when the stitch count is >100. It saves time and heartache.

    Hello Sarah! Je suis une tricoteuse du Québec, et j’ai de très bonnes suggestions pour toi : 1- Clo Tricots is a wonderful Montreal knitter, she has a great podcast that goes live every other friday. 2- Les Dompteuses de fil, from Quebec City, I love their energy, they are two prolific knitters and they are very inspiring. 3- Le temps d’une maille, also from Quebec, unfortunately there are no more new podcasts but I think you have at least 4 seasons to watch. 4- Tricolibri, a podcast hosted by Emma, a delightful French woman. There are lots more, but those are my favorites! Enjoy! And I will for sure join the Ranonculus KAL, it is going to be my third one, a gift for my sister.

As someone with a similar body type I followed your tip about going down a size for the back and putting the extra stitches towards the arms instead and I am thrilled to finally have a sweater thats not to tight in the arms :D thanks a lot for sharing your experiences.

    I really enjoy your chatty videos. I've made two sweaters with Woolyknit Dk and they are my favourites. no pilling and they get softer with each wash. I think Moonflower is knit flat, it's still pretty unusual for Rowan to do 'in the round' designs. I think Intarsia would be trickier in the round, and it might need the structure of seams to cope with the weight of all over colourwork. We're all cheering you on though!

    Wow, that was alot girl! Are you a Geminii? So many directions at once. Yeah really everything all at once!! Ha! I really think that the beautiful bright bright colored yarn that I don't know the name of ( I am Geminii too ha ) would be beautiful in a knee length vest !
    It would look great on you and go with soo many things, many of which are neutral grays or black. No ?
    And that coat, oh my Gods !! So very extra, love it, and if anybody could carry it off, it's you. It will be glorious on you. Can't wait to see it on you. Living vicariously through you, and loving it! Thanx, the wait was worth it.

    So, the spendy yarn dilemma. I wanted to use some really spendy yarn to make a shawl but the thought of buying it all at once was just something I could not do. So I bought a skein once every two months or so. I needed to wait until I had it all to start the shawl but you could start your blanket and just buy two skeins and then crochet until you need two more and treat yourself to the yarn you want slowly. You are 100% right that black and white aren't going to go out of stock. Tough call! If only we had an infinite budget for yarn!

    I watch your podcasts while I work and I just love your personality. It's so fun and you make me chuckle quite often.
    On another note, your mention your knitting group in most of your episodes and it sounds like they sometimes say low key mean things. :( Obviously we as viewers only get your perspective but from what you say, they seem kind of catty... Maybe I'm completely reading the situations wrong but regardless, you should trust your knitting instincts and knit what you like in the colors you enjoy. Knitting is a journey and we each get to discover our own likes and dislikes as we go. That's part of the fun. :) Long point long, don't mind any negativity they send your way. You should be knitting for yourself, not them.
    Also, thanks so much for sharing your life and knitting with us here on TH-cam! I really do enjoy what you share and I hope everyone in this community lifts your up. Sending love your way

    About the sleeve......An easy way to make it is to start knitting with the main color and when the color transition starts then cut the yarn and connect the part of the yarn with the appropriate color. You are going to have an extra knot but i think if it is under your arm it will be ok. You are the best. Kisses from Athens, Greece.

They are like a super short circular needles and you use 3 of these to knit any small circumference. If that sounds interesting to you see if your LYS stocks them and thank me later, LOL! And I think you'll look great in that beige top as it contrast beautifully with your skin tone. You can always dress it up with a scarfette, a brouche or jewellery for a pop of colour.

I am going up early so I have time to tour Boston and then driving up to Maine to see the fall colors :D I am so excited and your Cardigan OMG!!! It will be Beautiful!! Don't be afraid to cut your knitting my first steeked project was on superwash and it was fine, after I finished the jacket I found out your not supposed to steek superwash, oops... I did do a crochet up the sides of the steek to help keep everything in place. I hope to see you at Rhinebeck.

    Enjoy watching your podcast, you were missed. Loving all your crochet and knitting projects. Your Qing Fibre yarn is gorgeous. I purchased some Qing Fibre Mohair and at VKNY, haven't decided what to make with it. What I love most about you is that you are always challenging yourself. The Calad Shirt is gorgeous, love the yarn you chose. The Martin Storey Rhinebeck Sweater is going to be EPIC. Hopefully, I will see you at Rhinebeck this year. Look forward to seeing all your future makes.

      Thank you so much! Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew but that’s just my personality. I’ve had to learn over the years that I don’t have to see everything through that I start. That has allowed me more freedom to go bigger with challenges.., 🤣 Not exactly the intended consequence but I’ll take it!

    In your Petite Knits beige top-I made a top with a boat neck and my size for everything else made the neckline hang too much. What I did was to put the top on and use stitch markers to pin it to where I liked it and it still went over my head nicely. Then I hand stitched it. I live the fit, now.

I was thinking that the colors made it look like a flea market find of the lowest order. Glad you are not going to use those colors after all!!!! By the way you said beige is not a color you normally wear but it looks great on you. Thanks for all the humor, I needed it!!!! Carrie from the San Francisco Bay Area 😆🐶☕🧶

      OMGGGGGGGG!!! Not a flea market purchase 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 But real talk, it’s hideous and I hate it. This comment made me spit out my water and then I was like, I have to change these colors immediately 🥴🤣 I have black, white, and blue. I might keep the yellow and just skip the orange unless I can find something more peach / coral to add.

    Your Lento is just gorgeous and the way those colors are coming its going to look equally gorgeous on you! How about the name " Late to the party, Missed the Boat" as the name of your Ranunculus KAL?! I liked the way it sounded when you said the two you were thinking of. Why not both! :D I envy your passion for doing other crafts! I am a monogamous knitter as is and can't imagine learning to crochet cuz it would take time away from knitting. Yet at the same time...I would love to learn to crochet. ARGH I am facing my fears in knitting though. Focusing on getting socks down. Tried one on magic loop and I love magic loop but got SO confused and lost on the heel. Cut bait and tossed it. Now trying a 9 inch circular which is oddly...no worse than any other size of knitting in the round. Next fear...swatching and sweaters...but first socks.....

    • @theblacksheepknitter
      @theblacksheepknitter  ปีที่แล้ว

      In so many ways 🤣 The curls aren’t regular so sometimes one side hangs better. The front is looser so it looses definition while the back shrinks like mad. And it’s very fine so it tangles while I’m detangling it 🤣 But on this day, it was mostly doing what I wanted 🥴

    • @edinacole6382
      @edinacole6382 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theblacksheepknitter I get it. My hair is fine like baby hair and kinky. I never detangle it when dry, NEVER. Only when I am IN the shower and the conditioner is still on it. If your hair is dry and "messy", try spraying your hair with water and re-squish it, especially where the curls went limp/long. I like to add lavender essential oil to the water. If that doesnt work, my last resort is a pineapple using a special clip, NOT a hairband. Our hair is too fragile for elastic bands.

    I just got to the part with your lace weight crochet project and have to comment again because I love crocheting with lace weight yarn, and I love to see other people get into it. Don't be intimidated! It really is all the same stuff you see in larger gauges. You are obviously a very talented and hard-working person. If you want to learn something, I have no doubt that you'll be able to.
    For casting on in crochet you might want to look up foundation double crochet stitches and how to unravel extra chains. Foundation DC allows you to make your first row of DC stitches simultaneously with your chain stitches. It is a bit fiddly at first but is well worth learning, especially for garments. But if you do use a chain foundation knowing how to unravel extra chains means you don't have to stress about accidentally miscounting, because as long as you have more chains than you need you'll be fine.
    Stitch anatomy definitely takes some time to learn. I'm going through it right now with knitting, so I feel you. At this stage I would always mark the first and last stitches of your row. That way you'll avoid the most common way of dropping/adding unwanted stitches. I would also think about marking any stitches that a special stitch will be worked into such as the mosaic dc from your blanket project. If you marked the skipped stitch that the mosaic dc will later be worked into as you skip it then you won't have to go hunting for it below all the ch2 stitches.
    I hope you continue your lace top! Your swatch looks beautiful, and your stitches are just going to get better and better with practice. I can see you getting very good very quickly if you keep working at it.

    • @theblacksheepknitter
      @theblacksheepknitter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank youuuu! Sadly I’d already chained all those stitches before I read this but I’ve screenshotted it for my next project! Unraveling the chains sounds like pure magic to me but would certainly help with these super long chains to start! And I have tried marking the DC stitches on the blanket but things got wonky 😬 I have to start over anyone so maybe I’ll try these techniques for that! Thanks again, and keep the crochet tips coming! 🙌🏿

    Hey! Pretty sure the moonflower is worked flat…but on the Ravelry project page there is at least one person who knit it more like a kimono style and they engineered the pattern to be worked in the round. It’s beautiful though. I cast it on a few years ago but haven’t picked it up in a while

    So looking forward to the Ranunculus KAL. I’ve had some yarn set aside for this sweater for awhile now. Your KAL gives me the permission to have this sweater jump the queue. Those stitch stoppers look great. Do they really stay on? I really like the Cable Locks from Twice sheared sheep but they aren’t as cute, but they work. I really enjoy your podcasts. I am going to Rhinebeck too. Are you going to Woolfolk as well? I hope to see you there. I too am working on a sweater but not as ambitious as yours. From what I can tell you will manage this project easily.

      Thank you so much for watching! I’m glad my crafting sagas bring a smidge of joy ☺️ But I am curious why you don’t use your Furls hooks very often. This seems fairly common and I wonder if maybe there are other hooks I should be considering for larger or smaller projects 🤔

    • @janfujii3972
      @janfujii3972 ปีที่แล้ว

      @The Black Sheep Knitter Because I've been using my Clover Amore and Tulip Etimo hooks for so long, I found the grip on the Furls felt weird and the hook part seems really deep and I had trouble grabbing the yarn with it. You mentioned having tried a lot of hooks with the plastic grips so you might have tried the Clover Amore and Tulip Etimo but those are definitely my faves. I'm a knife style hook holder (that sounded really weird 🤔) so that might make a difference. Anyway, I had to buy like 5 Furls before I figured out they're not my jam. But they sure are pretty. If you're comfortable giving me a shipping contact, I'd love to give them to you, since they're just sitting here making me feel guilty that I don't use them.

    • @theblacksheepknitter

      I’ve heard a few people say they haven’t liked crocheting with the Furls hooks. I’ve also had a few folks recommend the Clover Amore which I haven’t even heard of before! The great thing about crafts being so popular now is all the varieties of tools!
      Your offer to send your Furls along is so incredibly generous, I had to read that twice! I will gladly take them and give them a loving home. If you email me, I can send you my mailing address :) Happy hooking! ☺️
