I think most people do not think about heavy trucks/lorries until they get stuck behind one on the motorway. The absolute best comment i ever heard from a trucker was on our local radio, one Christmas and when one woman said, "Theres far too many lorries on the roads at this time of year!" The reposte delivered almost immediately by trucker was, "If it wasn't for all THOSE LORRIES ON THE ROADS, your Christmas would not only not be delivered to your store so you have Christmas, but would spend its time languishing in a port somewhere, waiting for the 'Fairies', to do the next delivery run". Great to see things from the other point of view, thanks for shari g.
I did heavy haul, and a lot of loads craned on and off of my truck. It’s the best and worst job you can do. Some places know what they are doing, some, not so much. Had a Laborer’s card at one time, and that gave me a bit of pull on some job sites. It gets really interesting when you know how to guide a crane operator, and the “regular” ground crew doesn’t. Needless to say, some of those ground crews really appreciate that a guy that is driving a truck can also be trusted in a job site doing such dangerous work. They remember you, and are always glad to see you!
Hi from copenhagen denmark really enjoying seeing what goes on in the background of heavy haulage my great grandfather worked for wynnes of Cardiff in the 1920s and 30s with horses and then with traction engines my mum has told me many stories about her grandfather with the horses and traction engines struggling up out of Gloucester up crickly hill on the a 417 with loads of timber putting two or three traction engines together my mum still has some photos of him with his horses and traction engines and all his horse brasses ,he died just after i was born in 1963 i would of loved to have been able to talk to him about it keep safe, roy copenhagen denmark
Just discovered your channel Richard. A welcome change and I am subscribed. Looking forward to more, including watching what you have already posted. 😊😊
Hi Richard, just found you on TH-cam, you are so down to earth, i drove class 1 myself for over 20 years, now retired but still enjoy seeing documentaries about our trade, keep save 😊
it doesnt matter what the cargo is, it matters that the customer calls you back for more work! nicely done! i love seenig how my diesel brothers from another land do their jobs! my biggest was 115ft long 16ft wide by 12ft tall, airport jetway, nerve racking as hell here stateside where the highway lanes are barely 14ft wide by 13ft tall lol
thanks for another 'real' video, richard. love the way you present the content. thats another one ticked off. i pull a 6 axle faymonville, with all 6 axles having hydraulic steering, and so i know what you mean about tight yards/sites etc. thanks again
the biggest issue i have had in the usa is over time out trailers became longer and longer . sometimes you pull into a place and they have their junk everywhere, dumpsters, forklifts, various types of product just laying around the yard.
Just come across your channel, big loads on the roads have to start & grow, 👍👌🙏 nice to see, been involved with big forklift derigs etc, not a lot of drivers realise you guys need manoeuvre room on the roads, subscribed & will be going through your videos, ps cool spanner bracelet, is it bought or made yourself. 👌
Interesting stuff young man. When I used to drive artics, I used to carry reels of paper. Some small and some were massive. The worst ones being the 3500kg 2.85m wide ones that were stood like skittles down the trailer. When you had nine of them on your back, it wasn't fun when then road cambered badly around a roundabout or a bend.
I've wanted to to move into this line of work for a while, but have been told to forget it as its a dead man's shoes job. Maybe one day I'll get the chance to move off the HIAB class 1 work and into the heavy stuff.
@@chickenofthecave7046 Hiya mate it's definitely not like that these days. If you are genuinely interested get ringing round, But be prepared for grafting. Thanks for the comment

Even though the bridge spans look big and heavy, I suspect they will form a pedestrian bridge across the Thames. I further suspect that the bridge will be located somewhere in the west, between Chiswick and Teddington. Hope your new truck arrives in time!
Hi richard just subscribed interesting to see the other side of low loader work used to work in demolition operating excavators and crushers often going ahead of lowloader and helping with traffic at junctions/roundabouts had many arguments with site managers when they say they've gad artics in site before (scaffold lorrys) then having to explain the size difference crushers were worst ones to take up/down especially on trailer ramps
"Lot of effort for no gain"- man, there are a lot of zero gain feeling jobs. As a farmer, driving in circles for years in fields feels way "no gainer" than any trucking job :D Sometimes you jus move dirt around a bit at the same field, it doesn't even feel you are working the ground :D
Have you ever been to the old seimans factory in the centre of Lincoln.. Near the train station.. Now that's tight.. Another great video. From Russ in hillam North Yorkshire. Near shurburn in Elmet. 👍
I spent a good few years on fridges, got out of the industry a few years ago apart from a 12mnth forced return thanks to covid. If I ever had to return to trucks, I'd like to try Heavy stuff, I'd be quite happy moving diggers around 👌🏻
i know it would suck for you, but they should really invest in a transporter/shuttle.. we have them at my job and they can do EVERYTHING. independent suspensions and can spin on a dime

My wife says if she sees one of your Trucks, she’ll give you a flash. No no no you naughty boy, with her van headlights 🙄 Anyway thank you for an informative video, stay safe 🏴👍🏻
Hi. Again. I would be careful of your comments about effort and no gain ! I understand what you are on about, but some company may take it the wrong way. I suggested a camera on tail end of trailer for big loads but, thinking about it the load may well block out the camera view The better place to fix a camera is the back of the cab , gutter mount or roof mount . This way the camera would always see the trailer turn , reverse, and walk sides. Camera out of way of you working , only needs you to grab each evening Wish You Well
Quite Ironic it was a bridge he was moving as he sure was crying a river. Having such a hard time he was even able to play about putting stickers on his hat. 😂
You said it doesn't matter how long the job takes, but all the manouvering is on the tacho since you have been on the road you are restricted by drivers hours, not that you are going to exceed hours since its mostly waiting and Barnsleys just down the road. A 16 plate on heavy work and ULEZ keeps you out of London, Khan is stupid.
You are right, Kahn is an absolute idiot. Yes I am still on tacho what I meant was it doesn't matter how long it takes from a personal point of view. Thanks for watching
May be a small possibly boring job to do, but look at the big picture - These guys might think “This guy can drive”, then you gain yourself a potential good job at moving it across the country!
Cheers for your comment. Yes I do move them across the country. I might not get a chance at this one though purely because Kahn thinks my wagon is dangerous 🤣
It is tough getting in and out of facilities with heavy loads. That is the nasty part to having equipment, materia and a parking lot in the path of a heavy haul load. That place could have been modified to accommodate loading and unloading a trailer.

Interesting video, doing what we call an "hourly yard move" here on the western side of the states. With your short wheelbase units, looks like fun.
Yes that's where a hell of a lot of time is spent before a load moves there could be weeks of prep before a load moves
Absolutely, weeks of messing around is done before a load actually moves from where it's built
My two questions would be what was in your Sandwich and how do you have your Tea?
Good video ; better than the other fairies with low loaders , carrying cars and vans
Thanks 😂 I don't know what you mean 😉😉
