UPDATE: It seems that I was the only reviewer with the QR wobble issue. Asetek is sending me packaging to send it back for analysis to figure out what went wrong. They are also sending me a new QR. Also, the apparent wobble in the front mount is due to a number of things: 1. My rig is on wheels and the camera isn't 2. I'm a big guy who was trying to swing off a steering wheel to make a QR come loose For me, it's nothing to worry about but I do appreciate your concerns. I said I'd clear that up.
If it happened to you, it will happen to likely many others as well. IMO they should've kept the pin-method for a more proper connection because it compensates production tolerances, which every decent QR-method is all about. For example those Mige-bases for the VRS are coming with a leverage pin, but it doesn't fit into the shaft-notch first. You have to rasp off just enough steel with a file so it fits tight. The V-shape of the SC2-QR is a nice method to fit two pieces together including tolerances, so without play, but it needs (at least) the pin to hold the parts together. Asetek did it with a spring pushing chamfers against each other (at least looks like it) and a stiffer spring doesn't fix the main issue and the fact a small spring far more easily fails one time compare to a steel-pin.
@@LaurenceDusoswa Truly a beautiful base and rim! Nice to see Asetek owning up to the QR concerns and swiftly addressing the issue/concern. The lights are class. and I am quite exited to see the QR integration with other manufacturers is a fantastic idea. Plenty of functionality from the rim. I also agree that at this price point, you're paying for an experience. so nice to see the detail and aesthetics of the packaging. great job LD!
Yeah I had to see this through the eyes of a consumer and in ways I got a little unlucky but I hope the issues can be addressed asap and I’m looking forward to doing a follow up video
Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm hoping that the consistency of my reviews will just see them grow over time and I'd love to be one of the 'go to' people for reviews in sim racing.
Super honest and indepth review as always LD, good to see they held the orders to review and resolve the QR issue it's a sign of a good company. Looks like a real interesting option in the future.
im super glad you identified the play in the QR, this is a literal deal breaker for me and im very on the fence if i was to buy one and replace my simucube, one of the main reasons i sold my fanatec DD1 was because any kind of play in the QR would just sit on my mind, i would keep wiggling the wheel to see if its getting worse and you can imagine its just not the sort of thing that should worry you, every since changing to the simucube ive always felt it was so incredibly solid i could jump up and down on the wheel and never need to worry so im VERY disappointed to see that asetek seem to have had the right idea by basically copying the design concept with the IP purchase and trying to make the QR what it always needed to be which is the same but powered, the fact there is ANY play at all is kind of shocking to me and it would be a clear gamble to buy right now, it would be great if you did a follow up to this when asetek confirm they are happy with the shipping QR and see if its the same, it would literally make the decision for me if to buy or not.
I don't think there's much of a gamble. People are waiting which makes sense, but these issues will be sorted next week I'd say. I really think that this eco-system is going to be worth it
What Simucube do you want to replace and why? You know that there is a Mige-motor in the Asetek-bases? So the same tech than in the Simucube 1 or VRS and with the same awkward clamp-mechanism inside. So the only force that prevents the wheel from slipping on the shaft is the rigidity of the aluminium threads of the clamp seen at 6:35, which was also the major (potential) 'issue' I had with the VRS base using the hub and why I prefer Simucube 2 bases even I've had a RMA once with my SC2 Pro, probably due to a firmware-problem.
@@Leynad778 well I currently have a simucube 2 pro and I purchased the asetek Invicta yesterday to compare them both myself side by side but that won’t happen until some time in march when the base is estimated to arrive, I have put the simucube up for sale in the meantime, if it goes it goes. My understanding is that the asetek bases use custom mige motors with custom electronics etc, there are many types of mige motor and I’m sure they will not be just off the shelf 5 year old motors, they will have been designed to a specification requested by asetek… hence the “custom” part. I’m perfectly happy with the simucube quite honestly but I have the sense with simucube that they have no intention of going anywhere fast. By that I mean it seems to me that granite know what they have with simucube and are relying on its reputation to sell rather than trying something new or exciting, in the last few years they have released one wheel and one stupendously expensive but amazing pedal so they do not have an attractive ecosystem, I’m not excited by the simucube anymore and feel like they are being left behind when manufacturers like moza and simagic hit the scene and knock out wheel after wheel and base after base, so there seems to be no urgency with simucube, it’s all rather boring. Asetek on the other hand seem to have more drive, the urgency I want from a manufacturer, there is a promise of more wheels, the ability to upgrade your hardware for console compatibility in future and I like their attitude towards the products, if something isn’t right they are on it fast and seem to stand by that promise of bringing the best products they can. I also like that asetek recognised where the quality was with simucube and actively purchased IP to ensure they have the best starting point and I think that was crucial in my decision knowing how good simucubes are. So yeh, nothing wrong with simucube at all, absolutely amazing but so good it’s become boring to me if that makes sense
@@jinx20001 I bought the VRS DFP last year because I had FFB-dropouts with the SC2 Pro and thought I had another RMA, but a firmware-update fixed it. I liked the VRS FFB more than the SC2 Pro and spread the word at the granitedevice-forum and they fixed it as well. So I'm quite happy with it for now even TrueDrive could be better in terms of features. Releasing lots of products like Moza and Asetek I find rather suspicious in terms of reliability and this review is a good example. Complex products needs time and the devil is in the detail. The fact you can rip off the wheel from the QR should've been noticed during the prototype-process before manufacturing. For me it smells too much like Fanatec regarding flaws (v1.5 incoming next) and imagine this could possibly happen in a real racecar. It's not acceptable and a stiffer spring doesn't fix it. Actually the hole QR is only as tough as this little spring inside the mechanism and I would choose the pin every time even it means wheels with LED-lights and displays need a cable. Asetek is smart and selling stuff that isn't perfect part of their strategy. The pedalface-plates are uncomfortable? Here are smooth ones for 60 bucks. The brake-pedal has not enough travel? Just buy the 'Long Travel Kit' etc. It's perfectly fine for me, but I don't buy into it.
Good video. I’ve watched most of your videos recently as I’m deciding what DD wheelbase to buy. Currently leaning towards simagic alpha mini. What’s your opinion on value for money from the simagic alpha mini please?
Looks like a good wheelbase! But I'm with you on the aesthetics, don't care for the looks of it at all. Especially the wheel. But only time will tell. And I'm sure the specs are better than my simagic ultimate but it would take alot more than this too make me convert over! Great review as always!
So I got to try a forte finally again lately and its so much better now. Like its so so good and it shoes mige shouldnt hsve been left behind as fast as it was. Mige is still the best motor you can use and they get it made for them directly by the OG true MiGE. So yeah just proves what i said earlier about mige. I love love this wheelbase and did not expect to feel what i did. I think it does in fact feel better then my ultimate doeits so direct and just feels so good without any rubbery or elastic feeling that every other dd ive used feels like even if only slightly. Very surprising. I see why even to this day right now you are using an invicta. Good stuff
Yeah I’m reviewing the Invicta right now. I feel that it needs quite a bit of tweaking settings per sim/car. But it’s good. I’d be happy with it as my forever base
Its pretty unique i found a nice thing about it. Unlike other wheelbases you dont need to max the 27nm in software then reduce in game. I found it feels better then like any base ive used when putting it to 13nm then turning it up in game. Maybe that will help you out. Leave the oscillations settings off or at 1. You can adjust the corner force to your liking ive found 2 is nice for me. Then adjust the rest to how you like. But yeah most wheelbases you turn up in software to keep that dynamic range i found with this wheelbase you don't need to and it feels absolutely incredible when set to 13nm and then just turned up in game to where you like it. im guessing you like playing around 12nm anyways? Somehow even doing this doesnt reduce details the dynamic range is still there somehow. The most responsive wheelbase ive ever used. I even get to compare it with my simagic ultimate side by side. Im blown away by this thing. But again even the gt3 preset is pretty good with some fine adjustments. I def like leaving the slew rate up higher. But sometimes even just that setting alone can be the setting you may be sesrching for in some cars. Like in acc its great turned up but in ac maybe you want to lower it. But yeah test it out how im saying may surprise you. Alao of course leave the high frequencie details up to no limit. The static force reduction aka cornering force setting works so so well and sometimes it's just that. But yeah that 13nm is the sweetspot for it and for some reason then raising it in game works really well. Still get all of the benefits of the invicta. Was shocked Ive also found this wheelbase does incredible with less filters as in dampening inirtia and friction. A little works well but yeah. All in all for me even if I did have to adjust alot. The fact I can get the best ffb I've ever felt makes it so worth it. Even though I've found I don't adjust very often now. @LaurenceDusoswa
I try to cut out the repetition and silence to get my whole experience into a condensed little video. I was surprised this video was 10 minutes longer than expected but I couldn't trim any bits out without losing the authenticity of the review
i currently have a simucube 2 pro and just ordered the invicta aswell... strictly because of the IP purchase, if Asetek didnt purchase IP from granite devices i wouldnt have looked twice at the Asetek bases honestly but with that IP its clear they had a great opportunity to take what simucube has already done and expand on it, thats why the QR is a very similar design but they give it what the simucube was always missing which is power. I think hardware wise they are quite different, clearly different motors and it seems Asetek might be even using a more potent one for speed and response. Most importantly though the software looks extremely similar and software can make or break a wheelbase, Asetek are clearly using similar settings to the simucube but just renamed them, cornering force assist for example is obviously simucubes static force reduction filter, torque behavior prediction is obviously simucubes force reconstruction filter (or a similar version to it), anti oscillation is clearly simucubes ultra low latency mode which is designed for specifically reducing oscillation... So the Asetek bases are very much like they have taken what a simucube offers and expanded on it where they think it needed it. Thats why i ordered one :) only so far they can go with the simucube when it has hardware limitations like the quick release with no power (even though its such an incredible QR). I believe its actually in granite devices interests for Asetek to do well and succeed because part of the purchase Asetek made was giving granite shares in the Asetek brand, they both benefit from this hence why those simucube boys said yep lets do it :).
This appears to be a good first attempt. Most of the issues are easily solvable. However, in my opinion, there does seem to be too much plastic used in that steering wheel given the price point. Finally, got to compliment you on this review. Excellent attention to detail, clear and well structured. I am sure Asetek will appreciate your comments and they seem to be very keen to listen to their customers, which is refreshing. Looks like they will become a force to be reckoned with in the sim racing world.
Thanks for the amazing comment! There's a lot of plastic for sure but I actually think the steering wheel represents decent value for the functionality. I know what you mean though. Do bear in mind that this is designed and produced in Europe where wages and warranties are expensive for companies. It's somewhat unrealistic to compare european products as like for like with things that are made in cheaper labour economies.
@@LaurenceDusoswa You have probably read my mind in that I was thinking of the Moza GT wheel, which seems to have more carbon and metal and proper backlit buttons at a lower price. However, I think current events are teaching us that we need to be less reliant on Chinese goods so you make a very good and fair point.
@@LaurenceDusoswa Good point! Not only the simracing community, but consumers in general should be a little more aware of the ethical side of Chinese brands. That having said, I don't like the looks of the wheel.
@@LaurenceDusoswa ... thank you for your response... it confirms my initial choice of Alpha Ultimate... continue your quality work because I love your videos
Great review. I actually asked the question in one of their posts about console compatibility and was extremely pleased with the quick response that they are actively working on getting licences. As a PS5 user I am seriously limited in what I can use so I am keeping my fingers crossed that this happens sooner rather than later. Thanks for the video. ✌️😎
Nice review, i hope they change their design philosophie in the future. Everything looks a bit like a toy, i know this is subjective, but i also heard this from a lot other people.
Hi Laurence... Asetek forte wheelbase or Simucube 2 sport: which is the best? What do you suggest me? I sell my previous base (a Fanatec clubsport DD) and I want a reliable product with a good customer service. Thank you
Hello. I am grateful to you for your thoughts in the reviews and always watch them with interest. Please tell me. I am considering Asetek forte, simucube 2 sport and simagic alpha. I can buy simucube, but what keeps me from buying is that they have expensive wireless wheels, antenna, quick release (reliable, but simagic and moza also have reliable and modern), while there is a brand new asetek with a quick release and the same motor and encoder like simucube, and the price of asetek is lower. Yes, the simucube is undeniably time tested, but they should have updated with technology and released more accessible wheels (which asetek did). I like simagic, their wheels and their price, but how does their 18bit servo compare in feel to mige 22bit? What is the torque slew rate on the simagic Alfa? Considering the reaction time of a person in max 150ms, if I'm not mistaken or 250, then it is unlikely that these values will be distinguishable in the game ?! I play AC and dert rally 2.0 maybe 2 hours a week, no more. I want to buy a base and forget about updating it forever) Thank you.
For me, simagic wins. Why? Wheel choice, power though QR, smaller form factor, better mounting options, relatively affordable, similar ffb (I wouldn’t tell the difference in a blind test). Downsides: Simagic’s software is weak and frustrating. Don’t worry too much about stats. Buy the one that looks best, suits your wallet and gives you the best options.
@@LaurenceDusoswa Thank you very much for the quick response. I think it's still worth waiting for comparative reviews of these competing bases. Let's see what asetek will offer us all (when it fixes all the shortcomings and shows new steering wheels😁👍 it's too good. Yes, in terms of appearance it's not very good, but the way they beat the simucube with a quick release, we can say they took the same motor) . They removed this antenna)) The thought is closing, but are these guys not partners, I would like to see all this in simucube 2.5😆
Great review as always. Got my Forte Wheel and wheelbase for a week now, and I had reverse issues than you on AC: struggled to find the right settings for GT3 cars, and got the right one for open wheelers pretty quickly. Now I found the right tweaks for every car and i'm realy happy. Can't wait for the stand alone QQR, I have two wheel that are eager to take the road!
Great review as expected. I hope they sell that wheel with a USB connection and standard mounting holes. I have a base i like, but really are in need of a good GT wheel. Al the small issues you had wouldn't bother me in VR on a different base.
yeah people are reacting REALLY well to the steering wheel so that will be interesting for the future. I think the only way for it to happen would be with a mod of sorts but never say never.
Hi ! Do you find goods settings for Assetto Corsa ? I feel the same thing with my la prima asetek wheelbase. I like the ffb on rf2 and acc but on ac I don't like it ! I really hope I can find some good settings for this game ! If you have someting I can try I will very happy ! Hello from France :)
🔴🏁I love your videos👍. Asetek innovates and has thought of everything that could be restrictive for the piloting. Their products are excellent and I can't wait to see their range expand.
Cool! Was wondering if the base was actually metal or plastic on the outside. got confused by some seams. At the parts where you saw your wheel and screen there looks like to be quite some input lag. I've no idea how it would look if I drive, benefits of being in VR ;)
It's mainly metal for heat distribution but the front and back are plastic. VR life is good. I miss it at times. As for input lag, I don't think that's really an issue but will keep an eye on it
So not to be a negative nancy, but I held off on purchasing the Simagic until these came out and this is what I was apparently waiting for: - Unfinished electronics - QR that flexes - QA that missed the flex and exposed wiring - Brittle plastic build - Must be disassembled to use front mount - Cheap build quality wheel - FFB not as good as most other wheels Yikes.
There’s no flex in the QR but the poor tolerance led to play. Apparently other reviewers didn’t have this issue so that’s positive. I probably just got a bad one. The wiring being exposed was a conscious decision from them it seems. There’s no brittle plastic anywhere. The build quality is actually really good. The plastic materials are not aluminium I guess but that would also be more expensive. The ffb is amazing. AC just has me a little puzzled but that will all come good. I think you’re missing lots of the amazing positives too.
@@LaurenceDusoswa man, I don't know if I just wasn't paying attention or what, but I remembered your review being more negative for some reason when other reviewers seemed to indicate the FFB was more detailed than many bases. I came back and re-read your comment and I appreciate that you corrected those items, because it's back in the running for me.
I was disappointed in the QR and couldn’t quite figure out the open wheelers force feedback in Assetto corsa. They’re excellent products though. I can’t wait to get a fixed QR after which I’ll be releasing a new video
@@LaurenceDusoswa ahh, awesome! Thanks for the follow up vid (and all your content, for that matter) :) pretty much down to this and the comparitive simagic offerings for me.
This review will keep me from buying the hardware, BUT it gives me a huge amount of confidence in the brand. I'd bet that in a couple of months the products are gonna be far superior to where they're at now. Main reason I think it's the case is because you're able to put out a review that highlights both the positive and negative which is no doubt an important tool for them to make a top notch product. I appreciate that they're addressing the QR issue with urgency. Really tells you all you need to know about a company. Great review btw👍
So will will every other product over a simple update and a new sticker. Where in the endgame now of sim gear where there is going to be something new on the constant, its going to be out of control with the rave of this and the rave of that🙄🙄 u may welcome competition but were all going to hate the 187 on these companies pull on us with pricing and hiking them up over 1 popular review so look out the craze is on its coming

Buying today and disregarding the wheel. Simagic alpha or asetek forte?
Whichever you think is nicer looking and suits your wheel choice(s) better. They're both excellent.

@@LaurenceDusoswa Its actually between la prima and alpha mini for me, but it feels like the little brothers are always very close to each other. This being my first dd for occasional vr race feels like plenty anyway. Btw very nice sim content on your channel. A lot of informative videos. Helped me to find my way around various ecosystems and brands.
Good review, honest and in depth even if a bit on a "positive" side, as the QR issues and not being able to dial in FFB right in games is a bit of a let down. I am definitely sticking to my Simucube 2 Pro, where I do not feel the QR to be cumbersome, it's quite the opposite for me, it is simple and works, has zero play whatsoever. I am also fine with the wireless connections, never let me down before. The wheel not having backlit buttons is also a massive let down, albeit looking good, I still think it is a major oversight. I do not think it is worth buying these when there is Simagic and Moza out there with better offerings. Asetek is definitely in infancy with Sim tech and it requires maturation, this can take few years.
If I was trying to sell the product I wouldn't have bothered to mention any negatives :p The ffb thing is likely to be a 'me' issue and only affects my favourite sim. I don't think there's a big push to convert SC2 customers to Asetek because that's not the market they're going after. It's a rocky start but I'm sure the few issues will be sorted
@@LaurenceDusoswa I didn't mean it that way, I meant you would still recommend the product and or say Asetek will fix it, which might be true or not, time will tell. All I am trying to say is that I am very sceptical when it comes to this and potential buyers should be too, emphasis should be on that rather than the promises or fairy tales of soomething "might" be OK . I believe your reviews have a certain impact on a lot of people while making decisions, and I commend you for listing all the negatives. Don't get me wrong, I think you captured the essence of the product well.
All good :) yeah I would still tell my friends not to panic and that’s just because I see this happen a lot. Products have teething issues, especially the first of their kind. I can’t wait for it all to be sorted and then I’ll be delighted
As I expected, the QR is fast, but not really confidence inspiring when it comes to durability. It must be play/knock free, its the most important part in order to transfor correct FFB
The ffb is amazing. The QR is far better because it doesn't need wireless and provides power to the wheel. The motor specs are also superior but I never go into that detail because it's not something that I have the ability to feel.
Buy the one that looks the best and has the best rims for you :D From a ffb point of view, asetek is lagging behind simagic for drifting. but everything else is really good. To answer your question, no, it's not a big difference
The base looks great and so does the QR system, but the wheel looks awful and looks really cheap. It really let's it down, considering how good the forte and invicta pedals look
This seems underwhelming, despite what looks like a great motor there are a lot of small details just seem like they're not good enough for something that should be competing with SC. The front plate seems very thin (also, why on earth would anyone make a wheelbase that doesn't fit existing front mount plates?). The torque off button only shuts off the USB connection, and is stuck somewhere it can't easily be hit if you've just hurt your hand, both of which make it seem like more of a convenience afterthought than the safety device it should be. It's like someone had "torque off button" on a checklist and wanted to cross it off, without understanding the point. And those power/torque off buttons! They don't even look DIY, if they were DIY they'd look a lot more professional. Asetek did seem to get a lot right, so hopefully they can work out these little things in the future. Appreciate the level of detail in this review, it was a good watch as always. I'm excited to see how much Asetek got right, but secretly a bit glad I don't feel like selling my SC2 now and going for an upgrade.
Thanks for a great comment! I’m not sure if that’s an issue, the emergency stop button placement. It actually surprises me how many SC2 owners were expecting the asetek range to be a potential upgrade. I hadn’t anticipated that.
@@LaurenceDusoswa I did - the review was good. I can't stand that youtuber machine gun high hat background music that somehow became popular. I'm glad it was only playing for a few seconds during the introduction section.😆 The wheel base sounds cool, but it's not the one for me. I'm pretty sold on the VRS direct force pro at this point. Just gotta sell off some of my retro game stuff to fund it. Chrono Trigger and FF3 are out - driving sims are in!
i honestly think the looks are a nogo for me. I dont like the Ribs and i dont like The LEDs. Personally i also dont like these formula Wheels, so this base is clearly not for me.
I’m just going to say it… The entire Asetek wheel base and steering wheel look entirely 3D printed. The performance of the bases are great news but you gotta be kidding me. Come on man.
Major heat fade on this base after 30 mins of play. Moderate FFB settings in ACC, minimal damping in RaceHub. The Forte base has been disappointing for me, unfortunately. I recently sold my Fanatec CS DD and regret it. Based on my experience thus far I would have a hard time recommending Asetek, sadly 😕 This is not a troll comment, and understandably I have a bit of buyers remorse at this point. Hopefully I can get the matter sorted, otherwise I have no choice but to consider pursuing a full refund.
I did contact Asetek - it took them about a week to respond. I sent the base back and now awaiting their feedback, as they are closed for the holidays. My base arrived back in Denmark the day they shut down for the week (23rd). I am quite bothered TBH. Off for 2 weeks on vacation and cannot race/do what I love because of this quality issue. The day I set it up it was seemingly overheating from the start. For the first 30 mins it is amazing, and then it derates itself. Outside of base hits almost 60C in a very short amount of time, and then the FFB becomes quite bad/understated (loses about 25% strength). Curbs are less pronounced, self-aligning torque gets light, etc. Hopefully things get ironed out, I think the base has a ton of potential but I have yet to experience that over a sustained amount of time while using it. 🤷♂️😕
It is great that there are more options in wheel bases and wheels available, but that wheel is ugly. Design is such a personal thing though, I’m sure plenty of people will like it.
@@LaurenceDusoswa okay, maybe they changed it from what i have seen. There was a bandwidth filter, a slew rate adjustment, damping, friction and inertia, and something like the ultra low latency filter. Thats pretty much exactly what i know from simucube 2. had a leo bodnar ss2 before, which definitely has less filters to adjust, its basically doing the filtering locked in the background and you set just your damping, friction and inertia
@LaurenceDusoswa yeh very true but then you have to have a dangling usb cable. First world problems aye haha. Hopefully Asetek release some more rims or even better. Sign some deals with 3rd part wheel rim manufacturers. So they can include aseteks quick release and wireless power/signal connection. For full wheel rim functionality. That's the way to go imo.
Laurence Dusoswa says anything . You should definitely not listen to it At what point when playing we pull the wheel upwards . When we press very hard on the wheel, you have to know how to turn the wheel When your middle of the game. But definitely pullinf on it or pressing on it like a savage . This review is just ridiculous, if you are not satisfied, return your equipment to Asetek . Cordially

Another wheel for the super rich....getting tired of seeing these useless DD wheels, for real. Until this overpriced market can make a good DD wheel in the reach of normal working folks, Sim racing will never advance beyond the bedrooms of bored rich folks....honestly, enough already!
Please see my last review, the MOZA R5. The Cheapest DD on the market. Honestly you sound a little upset that you're not the target market for these products. We are all working folks and most of us were still on logitech G27s 5 years ago. Your time will come, if you want it to.
@@LaurenceDusoswa I know all about the R5...that wasn't the point. The point is that the, as you call it, target audience for these multi thousand dollar wheels can not possibly be that big---they're gonna run out of folks to sell this schlock to and fast. The Sim market is already shrinking (and debacles like LeMans is only making it look even worse) and garbage like this is not helping it in the least. We need $300 DD wheels or at the very least folks like you and many other reviewers on here not blasting the offerings at that price point in your reviews so folks might just try this out instead of ignoring it because "the reviewers on YT said you NEED a DD wheel or don't bother competing"....this is the reality of it, and that's all there is to it. Stop boosting these over priced (and in this case apparently poorly made...really??) companies and their rich boy ecosystems and put them instead in their place and I don't know, maybe tell folks to NOT buy all of these massively overpriced wheels. That might actually make them stop this never ending trend of ripping off all of us. Just a thought that everyone getting into this is thinking. Again, stop this already!!
This is definitely are problem in the simracing space, there needs to be a shift in pricing overall but for the people with good money or people that use simracing for real racing practice, it's cool there are serious options like all these boutique companies are offering.
@@DouglasThompson I don't begrudge rich folks who can do this, but it's the modest folks that keep a hobby alive and the choices are too few here. Sadly it's the way it is, but honestly it doesn't have to be....I hope it gets better sooner than later for real.
You bought the forte pedals and didn't like them? Please do share your experience here. My experience was great. Many people got hung up in how the load cell works and some videos around that but it doesn't change how it feels and performs.
@@LaurenceDusoswa first thing pedal base plate is not comfortable, the same expierence has my friend with Invicta pedals. Also you can never find comfortable position they were designed maybe for 44-45 size foot! The brake travel is bot worst case, as short travel was quit good, better than V3 but never found on Forte travel to my liking, it is stiff pedal, but travel is to small and the brake as just you put feet instantly shows that you pressed about 10-15 percent, of course you can adjusy deadzone, but it was not what i liked, finally after testing HE ultimate and VRS pedals i chose VRS and could not be happier, it is maybe 10 times better than Forte for 570 eur! I strongly teccomend to avoid asetek, enough marketing for me, so thats why i do not trusy reviews anymore!
@@amigoz3201 I did highlight about the baseplate design in my videos. As for small presses registering 10-15%, you can simply adjust the curve to your liking but I didn't have to as this wasn't an issue for me. The HE Ultimate or VRS are amazing too though. But please don't confuse my genuine experience and unpaid review time with marketing.
@@LaurenceDusoswa come on, VRS and HE are in another league than asetek Forte, so do not confuse simracers that they are great pedals, you are the same sponsored or affected reviewer like Dave cam, he was praising Forte as well, damn guys, you think other people are stupid or what? I learned my lesson no more experts like you, and i saw you did not liked HE handbrake, now i will try it as my friend has, i i’m almost sure i will like it more than trash you made reviews. Nevermind, do your reviews but my advice is to do it more carelfull, the only person Dan Suzuki mentioned that Forte is not the pedals you should go with, so i’m not blaming only you Lawrence, maybe Asetek has power to convince reviewers that they make very good products😂
The QR just needs a stronger spring and there's no way you can get it loose. I'd be surprised if they don't sort that issue in the coming days. My clunky QR seems to be an exception too because no other reviewers had the issue.
UPDATE: It seems that I was the only reviewer with the QR wobble issue. Asetek is sending me packaging to send it back for analysis to figure out what went wrong. They are also sending me a new QR.
Also, the apparent wobble in the front mount is due to a number of things:
1. My rig is on wheels and the camera isn't
2. I'm a big guy who was trying to swing off a steering wheel to make a QR come loose
For me, it's nothing to worry about but I do appreciate your concerns.
Was the QR wobble there before you tried to rip it off the wheel base or did it start after
Super cool seeing all these new bases.
Yeah very cool
Pineapplegrips sell a colour kit for the Forte wheel to get rid of the orange accents. It looks pretty good when it's all black.
Yep I have a set here. Really good
Been waiting for this one LD! Seeing it on stream has been nice. But getting to see it up close and more direct will be class! Keep up the great work!
Thanks you legendface! Let me know what you think after you've gotten a chance to watch the video
Great video and review! Hope to see more from Asetek soon, as well as updates on the issues you've highlighted.
Jesus, my heart jumped when you popped the wheel out of the release at 10:45😂
hahaha So did mine when I thought "Let me try this"
Another stellar review LD! Love this format and how you tackle these! Keep it up! 👍
Thanks so much for the comment and being a part of the live premier. That type of feedback makes the lack of sleep worth it
Great in depth review, some other reviewers I fallow did not pick up the issue with QR. Keep up the great work.
They may not have experienced it, I don't know. Asetek knew about these issues a few days ago so that's why they've halted shipping.
The choice is getting so broad you really need this, great stuff as usual.
Yeah it really is getting difficult to make decisions in ways. The truth is though that it’s hard to make bad decisions.
As always thanks for the honest review and not holding back when you fine issues.
Yeah I had to see this through the eyes of a consumer and in ways I got a little unlucky but I hope the issues can be addressed asap and I’m looking forward to doing a follow up video
Thank you for this revview, it was very helpful, informative and entertaining!
You're very welcome! Thanks for the comment
I'm super excited to see what competition can bring to our niche corner of the world. Thanks LD for your efforts in bringing this to us.
You're very very welcome. Competition is a great thing and sim racing is growing at a crazy rate. Exciting times
I've been waiting for this!
Nice one! What do you think?
Great In-depth review .. way way out of my league , but anyone looking for a great review this is the channel to watch
Thanks for the great comment man. Yeah they're a very ethical company and that's one thing I love about them. Can't wait to see what the future holds
Thanks for the review LD!
You're very welcome Gregmeister91, thanks for the comment!
im super glad you identified the play in the QR, this is a literal deal breaker for me and im very on the fence if i was to buy one and replace my simucube, one of the main reasons i sold my fanatec DD1 was because any kind of play in the QR would just sit on my mind, i would keep wiggling the wheel to see if its getting worse and you can imagine its just not the sort of thing that should worry you, every since changing to the simucube ive always felt it was so incredibly solid i could jump up and down on the wheel and never need to worry so im VERY disappointed to see that asetek seem to have had the right idea by basically copying the design concept with the IP purchase and trying to make the QR what it always needed to be which is the same but powered, the fact there is ANY play at all is kind of shocking to me and it would be a clear gamble to buy right now, it would be great if you did a follow up to this when asetek confirm they are happy with the shipping QR and see if its the same, it would literally make the decision for me if to buy or not.
I don't think there's much of a gamble. People are waiting which makes sense, but these issues will be sorted next week I'd say. I really think that this eco-system is going to be worth it
@@LaurenceDusoswa nice, i might take a punt on it then, really do hope that QR isn't going to be an ongoing flaw.
It’s the best value for money wheelbase in sim racing as far as I’m concerned
@@LaurenceDusoswa Thanks Laurence - appreciate your opinion
Another brilliant detailed and honest review 👍
Thanks a million
Looks like a good wheelbase! But I'm with you on the aesthetics, don't care for the looks of it at all. Especially the wheel. But only time will tell. And I'm sure the specs are better than my simagic ultimate but it would take alot more than this too make me convert over! Great review as always!
yep I think that people are unlikely to convert once they have chosen an ecosystem anyways, unless they're chasing more power
@@LaurenceDusoswa see ive found the preset gt3 setting to be perfect. I do main acc though.
@LaurenceDusoswa its funny i hate presets usually but I absolutely love there gt3 preset its so spot on.
Was shocked
Ive also found this wheelbase does incredible with less filters as in dampening inirtia and friction. A little works well but yeah. All in all for me even if I did have to adjust alot. The fact I can get the best ffb I've ever felt makes it so worth it. Even though I've found I don't adjust very often now. @LaurenceDusoswa
Great review as always, Honest and straight to the point.
I try to cut out the repetition and silence to get my whole experience into a condensed little video. I was surprised this video was 10 minutes longer than expected but I couldn't trim any bits out without losing the authenticity of the review
Excited to see if this is a simucube in a fancy frock or something entirely different.
There's substance here for sure. Rumour has it, there's very very little Simucube in this device
i currently have a simucube 2 pro and just ordered the invicta aswell... strictly because of the IP purchase, if Asetek didnt purchase IP from granite devices i wouldnt have looked twice at the Asetek bases honestly but with that IP its clear they had a great opportunity to take what simucube has already done and expand on it, thats why the QR is a very similar design but they give it what the simucube was always missing which is power.
That having said, I don't like the looks of the wheel.
hi... if you had the choice between the forte and the alpha ultimate... which one would you choose?
Alpha U would be my choice there. Although the asetek QR is really great. I could see myself buying Asetek and staying there just for the QR alone
Yeah it would be really nice for sure
Well Moza said the same thing almost two years ago and still no compatibility with consoles
Nice review, i hope they change their design philosophie in the future. Everything looks a bit like a toy, i know this is subjective, but i also heard this from a lot other people.
It's definitely not a toy but they have saved weight in materials to make the feeling better
Hi Laurence... Asetek forte wheelbase or Simucube 2 sport: which is the best? What do you suggest me? I sell my previous base (a Fanatec clubsport DD) and I want a reliable product with a good customer service.
Thank you
For me, asetek wins it due to the quick release and high functioning wheels. Simucube is much more limited.
@@LaurenceDusoswathank you
Good stuff Laurence 👍

Great job LD. Nice Vid
Thanks bro
@@Vip-Havbek I’m literally in the same position as you. Have you made a decision?
Great review as always.

Yeah same here! Very excited for the future
As for input lag, I don't think that's really an issue but will keep an eye on it
Input lag may be due to Vertical sync turned ON, at the time of the video
Bravo Asetek!
Yeah they did a super job here. My follow up video if/when everything is sorted will be fun to make
How does the Forte compare to the Simagic Alpha? Do you like Forte's or Alpha's FFB more?
I think that they are very similar. I haven’t driven them back to back and don’t think I would tell them apart in a blind test.
Great to see serious players getting into the market and creating more competition.
yep. As soon as these few issues are tackled, they're going to be a powerhouse in sim racing
love it i have a Aasteek shifter but im going to upgrade from the shifter soon.
did not know you had a son
Yep I have a son and Asetek never made a shifter :) Not as far as I'm aware
no brand shifter idk people say it is a no brand shifter AliExpress sorry getting my brands mixed up
Hello . I have a f-gt elite cockpit with front mount . Do you think it will be compatible directly or do I need to buy an accessory ? Thank you
Honestly I can’t answer that. I presume you need an accessory
ah no back to square one, I was set on the MozaR16 or 21 and now I'm not sure anymore ...
So not to be a negative nancy, but I held off on purchasing the Simagic until these came out and this is what I was apparently waiting for:
- Unfinished electronics
- QR that flexes
- QA that missed the flex and exposed wiring
- Brittle plastic build
- Must be disassembled to use front mount
- Cheap build quality wheel
- FFB not as good as most other wheels
Yikes.
Excellend comment. Thanks also for the kinds words. I can't wait to post a follow up video where everything is sorted

It must be play/knock free, its the most important part in order to transfor correct FFB
the play issue seems to be an isolated thing. see pinned comment. And they're already working on the QR paddle being made stiffer
Great review 👍
You’re very welcome
So I don't see the big selling point of this over the SC sport tbh. Sure the QR is quicker, but better? Not sure.
The ffb is amazing. The QR is far better because it doesn't need wireless and provides power to the wheel. The motor specs are also superior but I never go into that detail because it's not something that I have the ability to feel.
I find that wheel looks awfully toyish. Love the review.
Laurence do you still have it hooked up to your pc ? If so I have a question. Thx :)
Not right now. But what do you need to know?
@@LaurenceDusoswa I got it , thx for the reply :)
Asetek Forte or Simagic Alpha? Is it a big difference?
Buy the one that looks the best and has the best rims for you :D From a ffb point of view, asetek is lagging behind simagic for drifting. but everything else is really good.
To answer your question, no, it's not a big difference
Did you manage to get AC dialled in better?
Imo they really should've used NRG 2.0 QR. Simagic being a good example
I prefer that QR but they wanted to innovate and create something better

The Simucube QR Pin is more reliable and adjustable for slop.
This will be fine once they improve that spring. my clunk issue is am exceptional circumstance it seems as other reviewers did not have this issue
The base looks great and so does the QR system, but the wheel looks awful and looks really cheap. It really let's it down, considering how good the forte and invicta pedals look
The styling is distinct for sure. Not for everyone. Thanks for the comment!
They're going after Fanatec demographic with similar wheel style and lots of plastic.
P.S. Subbing for honest review. Much appreciated!
You’re very welcome. They’re all honest
@@LaurenceDusoswa well, at least yours are!
LES GOOO
LES GOOO
Was that a Supra?
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Let me in!
Did you get to watch it yet? What do you think?
@@LaurenceDusoswa I did - the review was good. I can't stand that youtuber machine gun high hat background music that somehow became popular. I'm glad it was only playing for a few seconds during the introduction section.😆
The wheel base sounds cool, but it's not the one for me. I'm pretty sold on the VRS direct force pro at this point.
Just gotta sell off some of my retro game stuff to fund it. Chrono Trigger and FF3 are out - driving sims are in!
Hahahah enjoy! VRS is amazing too
Good effort for a first attempt but for me, it looks a bit too "gamer" especially with the fading rainbow lights in standby mode.
You can turn those off :) or make them super subtle. Excellent first attempt for sure
600eur for steering with plasic buttons, knobs, paddles??? I'll stick with Simagic.
Yeah I know what you mean. The economy is very different where Asetek and Simagic are based.
i honestly think the looks are a nogo for me. I dont like the Ribs and i dont like The LEDs. Personally i also dont like these formula Wheels, so this base is clearly not for me.
You can turn off the LEDs but I get what you're saying about the looks.
U can use 3rd. Party wheels with an Adapter
Same I do not like there style even without the led I wouldn't like it or the wheels.
With the new LMP grips that can be installed on the Forte. I bet you wish you didn't speak too soon.
I’m just going to say it…
The entire Asetek wheel base and steering wheel look entirely 3D printed.
The performance of the bases are great news but you gotta be kidding me. Come on man.
Not sure that’s very fair :) I see what you mean but they don’t feel poor quality or anything.
@@LaurenceDusoswa for sure quality is fine and they seem to perform great but the looks are just as important at this mid to high level
I keep hearing Asetek has a not so good ecosystem. Third party integrations is difficult. Big deal breaker for me.
Not sure where you’re hearing that
1,157.9693 US Dollars
Cheers
Major heat fade on this base after 30 mins of play. Moderate FFB settings in ACC, minimal damping in RaceHub.
The Forte base has been disappointing for me, unfortunately. I recently sold my Fanatec CS DD and regret it. Based on my experience thus far I would have a hard time recommending Asetek, sadly 😕
This is not a troll comment, and understandably I have a bit of buyers remorse at this point. Hopefully I can get the matter sorted, otherwise I have no choice but to consider pursuing a full refund.
I have 100s of hours with the asetek bases and never experienced that. Did you contact asetek?
Simucube 2.1 🤣
In many many ways
@@LaurenceDusoswa i havent driven it, but from the software screenshots it looks like a simucube spinoff 😁
@@patrickdurka6188 The software is actually really different I find. But all wheelbases in this sector are quite similar.
Just seen the review, were you running that acceleration at 0.1? Its like slewrate 0.1 on simucube, so maybe that why it felt weird to you?
Plastic paddle shifters at this price. Holy smokes man. This thing is so good but so bad lol.
Apparently they've focused on the quality of the internal components rather than the external. They also manufacture in a far higher cost zone
@@LaurenceDusoswa ah ok mate. I suppose that's not bad but I still can't get over the use of plastic.
I am eyeing up Asetek I just really dont like their wheel rim. Looks awful imo.
Yeah it's a bit love/hate. you could get the base on its own and a 3rd party wheel
The amount of plastic on this wheel is crazy
There’s quite a lot. But it’s very functional and user friendly
Almost $1800 for 18Nm, steering wheel without display (looks like toy), no PS, no Xbox support Expensive!!!…. Asetek little greedy… good luck 😂
that quick release will steer me away from buying. pretty janky!
Once they fix it it will be ok for sure. Expect a follow up video soon
Laurence Dusoswa says anything . You should definitely not listen to it
At what point when playing we pull the wheel upwards . When we press very hard on the wheel, you have to know how to turn the wheel
When your middle of the game.
But definitely pullinf on it or pressing on it like a savage .
This review is just ridiculous, if you are not satisfied, return your equipment to Asetek .
Cordially
Are you saying that it’s a problem or not? My job is to let people know about my experience. Also, this issue has been solved now thanks to my feedback and the feedback of other day 1 reviewers.
Please don’t undermine my credibility because you don’t understand the job I do and how many hours I do for free to help others to enjoy sim racing.
@@LaurenceDusoswaI m sorry but that wasn't my goal . It's just that i Saw other reviews and this problem was not raised . Si I have a question for you
Between a Forte Asetek base and Simagic Alpha Ultimate
Which one do you recommend and why ?
I'm sorry for the comment
@@MarcSimPro between forte and alpha u, the Simagic wins for me. But only for ffb detail and drifting/rally. And power of course. No problem about the comment. It’s good to ask questions especially when you think something isn’t right
@@LaurenceDusoswa But I prefer play at ACC with GT3, GT4 . And automobilista 2 and Race Room Always GT3 and a little FORMULA 1 on AC . Is the Alpha Ultimate is better on this type of car ?
Or is the Forte is at the same level
@@LaurenceDusoswa So to drive GT3, GT4 on ACC, Automobilista 2 and Race Room .
You will instead need the Alpha Ultimate or Asetek Forte ?
Everthing is made of hard Plastic for that $ not worth it
There’s loads of crushed carbon and an nice carbon front plate too. I actually think it’s a decent price for that wheel
The rim is plastic toy, sorry but after asetek forte pedals review and as got them, i do not believe in you and Asetek at all!
I think a bottle cap can help you with the start/emergency stop, and some paint spray can.. or something lol;l
hahaha they sent me a new one. It was a complex break, how it broke.
@@LaurenceDusoswa Sure a omplex break lol;l
Very cheap quick release that is trash for the $$ this base cost. Simucube 2 sport or pro is 1million times better
The QR just needs a stronger spring and there's no way you can get it loose. I'd be surprised if they don't sort that issue in the coming days. My clunky QR seems to be an exception too because no other reviewers had the issue.
