A 58 yarder into the wind, too lol. If he makes it, so be it. Yo be fair, though, he's by far the best coach the State University of New Jersey has ever had. Lower those expectations just a smidge...
@@DiscipleofHim Icing the kicker should only be applied if it's a kick the guy would normally be comfortable with. A 42 yard FG? Ice the kicker. A 58 yarder? Let him kick the thing. (Unless it's Brandon Aubrey, in which case you ice him on anything less than a 65 yarder. )
@@Han-hx7lg You don't ice the kicker when he's inside his range. You literally cannot ice a guy who's already ice cold. It's not the QB or RB who's attempting the kick. It's a guy who's been standing on the sidelines for 20 minutes ... totally cold, not in the flow/rhythm of the game.
For that last play Bielema had called "church," which meant the receiver was to get out of bounds quickly (of course he needed to get the first down first) or just go to the ground and then the offense line up and the QB spike the ball. Bielema was still thinking of kicking a FG to win it, but knew they had to get closer to kick it. But, Bryant saw an opening, took it, and the rest is history. As an Illini fan, it is nice to be on the winning side of those types of games.
Except that it's not possible to ice a guy who's already ice cold. Dude has been standing on the sidelines for 20 minutes. He's cold. All a TO does is give him time to get acclimated to the conditions and maybe get a practice kick in.
It worked out in the end, but I think Miles Scott had an interception. I didn't think there was enough evidence to overturn the call. It looked like the ball bounced off of his hand/arm into his chest and he cradled the ball into his chest right as his chest came to the ground.
That's what I see, too. I don't see any clear evidence, in this video (at least), that the ball definitively hit the ground. Your description looks more probable based on what I see here.
The point of the ball is resting on the turf after it bounces off both of his arms. Then he gains control, while the ball is already in contact with the ground. Pretty clear in the first replay.
@ That’s not what I see. I’ve rewatched that time stamp and I can’t tell where the point is at. It might be on the turf. It might be on his forearms or wedged between them. I’m not sure. Nothing in that video is conclusive to me. If it were called incomplete, that seems reasonable and I’d let the call stand. If it was called an INT, that seems reasonable and I’d let the call stand.
Most Websites I checked this score on listed 38-31 Technically the Last play was a Safety so I guess that's correct not Important just something I noticed
Refs tried to take it away by overturning the interception. They called an interception and nothing on the replay proved otherwise. That was just a big hometown call.
I thought it was an interception because it seemed to rebound into his hands, but you can see in the replay it bounced into the ground tip down. It was close, but I think overturning the interception was the right call.
The Million Dollor Question.. Why in the Hell would You call a Timeout to try to ice a kicker from 58 yds out kicking into the wind???? You deserve this lost Coach.. Another Bonehead Call....
Guy has been standing on the sidelines for 20 minutes. He's already ice cold. A 30 second timeout does nothing. I think "icing the kicker" is a theory that's been debunked even more times than the gender wage gap. When will coaches learn the basics of coaching?
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot calling a timeout as The Illini missed the field goal. The best psych out in 2024 is let him take the kick without calling a time out, because the majority of kickers stink.
Illinois scored too quick and gave Rutgers time, and then Rutgers scored with too much time on the clock. Illinois was favored by 1 point, and it was really that close - one play.
Imagine if Illinois had lost this game, it would've made Penn State's already awful schedule look all that much worse. This close win doesn't help them, either.
4:41. Once again, we have the old "let's ice a guy who's been on the sidelines for the past 20 minutes and is already ice cold" moment. It might work in basketball. Call a timeout so that a guy who's in the flow of the game, is hot, sweaty, and in rhythm has to stand on the sidelines for a minute to physically get cold and, hopefully, lose that in-game rhythm. Kickers are already cold!! Kickers are already not in the flow and in rhythm!! There is no such thing as "icing a kicker."
@4:25 A coach calling a timeout immediately before the opposing kicker attempts a field goal is unsportsmanlike. It's like faking an injury to stop the clock. And I'm so glad that this cheap "icing" stunt backfired and cost Rutgers the game. Great job, Coach Schiano, you should be proud.
Why is that they beat ranked teams an are currently doing better than bama who has lost to two unranked teams. While Illinois has two losses to ranked teams and ind unranked yet bama is still in the cfo talk
The video everyone has been asking for 🙌
Rutgers basketball is also keeping games really close
Ace Daily top five freshman
Great share...regards, from down South in Dixie ,from Whitey boy.
Thank you PSC!
USF had a buzzer beater!
Need a video for it!
Schiano calling a timeout to ice the kicker only to have Illinois get a game winning TD instead is peak Schiano.

Worst game ending I’ve ever watched
I couldn't stop laughing seeing how badly the dreaded "icing the kicker" strategy backfired there 😂.
If they are lining up for a 58 yard FG, you let them kick it. I don't understand why you would call a time out there.
To ice the kicker? Bad move but if he makes the kick? Football is a ballsy calls game...

I really wish my friend who was the ultimate Illinois fan were here to see this
I'm sorry for your loss. =(
My condolences. I'm sure your friend got a great view of the game from above!
This Illini team is just different
I just felt like even when they went for it on that fourth down that we were going to win

I think rushing 7 guys on that touchdown pass is the worst call of the game. Terrible. Leaving your secondary out to dry....

Overrated? I don't think anyone was rating Illinois' defense. Their secondary isn't bad, but their run defense has been really bad all year.
