Hi Rahim - Thanks for providing these tutorials. Up until now, I've been a camera drone pilot (FIMI SE X8 2020). I now have the Avata Explorer Combo and have been flying with the Motion Controller 2 up til now. Just bought the FPV Remote Controller 2 and am consulting your tutorials to help get started with the Virtual Flight Software on my laptop. Your work here is invaluable! Hope I can ask you questions from time to time as I progress through training. Thanks, Bob
Thanks man, I have been having a hard time keeping the same altitude will load to the ground. After making those adjustments I feel like I'm already doing much better!
You're most welcome. These will give a soft feel in the centre of the sticks and still be able to do fast spins at full stick deflection. Where are you from btw? Just wanna know, as Im getting feedback from friends in the US that they are unable to input the exact same rates as its a region issue. So just wanna know what is the problem here...
Sorry I missed this. You're most welcome! Hope the journey has been smooth for you. Do feel free to ask any help anywhere in the comments and I'll respond in kind. Till then, enjoy the journey and I'll see you in the skies!
great video and fantastic explanation..... would those rates work that smooth in other simulators?... I have a DJI Avata burt apart from the DJI Virtual flight I have other simulartors like uncrashed, etc... and would like to know if that smoothness I have with your rates will be similar.. Thanks
Great content, lots of ideas and tutorial, i have newly bought dji avata, can you share settings for dji motion controller gain tuning for cinematic, i find default setting is slow. Im still waiting for remote control pre order, will start to normal mode, practice in virtual app, and during night, watching to your channel
Great to hear you got your Avata! About the gain setting, I just learned that there are settings to it, so I have not actually went on to tune them. Would be great for an episode on that! Thanks for the idea! And hope your controller will arrive soon. In the mean time if you are using Android, you could practice with this app first using touch controls: th-cam.com/video/9WY297mYwzs/w-d-xo.html
Sorry I missed this. Thanks! So yeah, this is #1 on the list. For public access, you can start off at Marina Barrage and head towards Marina South Promenade. Or if you are driving, you can just go along the road and park along the stretch. Easy to spot if you are in the area, is that there is a monsoon drain leading to sea.
Do you mean M mode attitude limit? The rates will take effect, but its just that you will not be able to fully roll or flip the drone. Safety feature and its like training wheels on a bicycle. If you are confident, you can take it off.
Rahim, Love your content and your explanation, really easy to understand. Can you do a video on camera angles in relation to speed. I am having a hard time controlling the drone speed at low altitudes. Im thinking my camera angles may be too high. What was you angle on this video?
Thanks for the support. Really appreciate it. Its not a Avata specific episode, but DONE! Lol! Here you go mate: th-cam.com/video/pHcQuOItoJo/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps. I actually fly at 25deg. Smooth cruises. If the subject is fast, then i will need to test different cam angles and see what works.
Also, how do I get rid of the remote controller stick error notification in the goggles? There isn’t an error, I just have the throttle loose. I know that you can get it to get rid of the warning but can’t remember how. Cheers
For the error, it appears once awhile and I will go into the controller settings in the goggles and do a calibration. It will go away and I'll just repeat the process if it comes around again. Just takes a minute.
Sorry I missed this. Been away for awhile. Max rate is how fast the drone rotates in deg/s. This is also generally how Max rate is calculated for traditional FPV drones in Betaflight software. Hope that helps.
Sorry missed this. I am often on 25deg. It looks slow when flying high up, but when u come close to the ground for those cinematic sweeps, then its a good speed to cruise.
@@TheReelRahim yeah I’m usually around the same angle. I’ll often fly both the fpv and the Avata at around 28. I’ve recently been slowing the Avata right down and trying to creep along really low and really slow to get better control. Had the angle at 14 degrees to just glide along. The footage looks really slow watching it back but it’s fun nonetheless for exploring the location at slow speeds and good for practicing control.
Hi Ben, sorry missed this comment. Thanks! Hope the rates work well for u. Here are my top 5 fav fly spots and locations are in the description as #1: th-cam.com/video/owyKD7_L068/w-d-xo.html
I usually have my gimbal set at 25deg. That makes for a calm cruise. But at times the shots may seem too slow, or if u have a subject that is fast moving and you need to chase it, then higher will give you better result.
Thank you this was very helpful! The issue I'm having now is when I do a yaw spin it always jerks out hard and most times it will trip back into normal mode. I found that if I give about 5X more roll than yaw it's a lot more controlled. I tried adjusting Center/Max/Expo for yaw but nothing seems to fix the issue and only seems to make it worse. Should I be increasing roll instead?
Im sorry I missed this, and also sorry to say that it cant solve the jerking issues of the Avata. These are rates that act between our transmitter and the drone. Its how the drone perceives your controller inputs. But HOW the drone handles itself in the air as an aircraft has got to do with PIDS. This was something id tune on my DIY drones but I am unable to on a DJI as not available to tune. Only DJI can do that. Call it drone characteristics, and right now, the Avata does not have good characteristics. Also due to fact that the motors are weak and not so reactive to the when the PIDS wanna do their work.
01:37 - how do you get such a view in your video? Do you somehow grab picture from the gogles or do you make a board in PowerPoint with the layout and colors just like in the view? ;)
@@TheReelRahim ok I was puzzled by seing the "Camera View Recording" option in the Camera->Advanced Camera Settings" in your gogles menu and not seing the same in mine, but now I studied and learned that it's only in DJI Goggles 2 but not in the DJI Goggles V2.
Thanks alot man I was just going to give up and tried this rate. It's smooth now that I have changed my mind. It would add more pleasure if the camera angle would also be the perfect match with this rates. What should be the camera angle?
Sorry these are rates and not PIDs friend. We cant tune PIDs for DJI drones. But yes, you can use them as I took these from my DJI FPV. If you would like to learn how to tune your own rates, here is an episode: th-cam.com/video/PvuFUdfOMbQ/w-d-xo.html
Hey! Just subscribed. I got a question. He can u fly slow and full control in M mode? I tried to change camera angle. But still it stays really hard to fly slow. For a indoor shot. I see a lot of cool indoor flying videos witht he avata.. im guessing they use M mode.. but it looks almost TO smooth to me M. But there must be a way / settings to be able to fly slow in M mode 😁 right?
Sorry friend, closest you have to easy is in N or S mode. I fly N or S in very small spaces, but if given a bigger indoor space, then M mode. BUT needs alot of practice and crashing. No shortcut or special mode here. I often practice with any stabilisation OFF, then when I want smooth footage, fly smooth and ON Rocksteady to have a smooth outcome to the footage.
Yup try it out. Expo rate works hand-in-hand with Max rate though. Its like you got to set the rotation power first, then decide on how you want that power delivery with Expo. If you set a low power rate for Max, then using this expo number will not give the same effect.
Terimakasih nemu rate ini, set di Neo..smooth..sesuai karakter terbang saya..tinggal terus latihan jam terbang.. default rates sangat liar.. terimakasih bro sharing nya.. sukses selalu 👍
Sorry I missed this. Been away for awhile. Have u found a solution yet? If you follow my rates, then the responses are really soft for cinematic flowy scenes. PLUS, i may have the slight jitters, and thats why I need the rates soft. To improve this, Id recommend that you try to increase the sensitivity. Just jump straight to 100, 150 instead of my setting of 50. Then fine tune preferences from there. If there is no difference, then there could be a mechanical issue. Try calibrate first in settings, and if still persists then u may need DJI to look into it. Also u may try to test in the sim to confirm this.
Sorry I missed this. Been away for awhile. These rates will make it smoother to fly the drone, but if you are looking to fly slower, try to lower the camera angle. Usually, I fly at a camera angle of +25degrees upwards. You could try this but if this is too fast for you, then you can lower the angle to +10 or +15 degrees. This way, you wont need to pitch the drone forward so much to see forward when you are flying, and in turn the drone will fly slower. Hope that helps. You can watch this video too for an explanation on drone camera angle: th-cam.com/video/pHcQuOItoJo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vAEEEHO4khAjA2LX
You cant in the goggles, but I heard there is more you can adjust on the DJI Assistant or something like that. But I have not tried it myself, as have not found the situation for it. The throttle of the Avata is way softer than DJI FPV.
Yes. Not really always down, but just removed the spring tension and then added some friction. Makes for WAY easier throttle management. Here is the episode: th-cam.com/video/3ituW4rafiE/w-d-xo.html
Hi just saw this video, so putting a smaller number in centre sensitivity and in expo say 0.5 will make the Avata less jittery especially while flying as mine tends to roll too much sideways when making a turn?
Sorry I missed this. Great to hear! Iv not had the chance to use different props. Kinda would change if I ran out, but never really had a reason to change. So how have the props been and did it work smoothly with these rates? Being 3 blade, I would assume they wont bite as well taking corners but may have better acceleration?
@@TheReelRahim I do cinematic shots and it did smooth with this rates, it's a bit faster than the stock props but yeah, it's not so decent when taking hard corners.
Sorry I missed this. Hope the journey has been smooth for you. But woah, im no master. Jus sharing stuff i know to help others. Anyways, I'd say that yes it can dive. Any drone capable of Acro/Manual modes can dive, but whether it does it well is another thing entirely. If you're looking at high dives, then definitely I would not be comfortable with the Avata. On a windy day, Iv noticed that it has a hard time battling to keep stability in the air. So for dives, id rather be using a 5in DIY drone or DJI FPV. Its just that the drone was built to be a good close proxy and cinematic style drone. For the fancy freestyle and dives, not so.
Perfectly fine. I truly dont see the difference flying it with the V2s. Like image in the goggles will be just about the same. its just that you dont have headtracker mode. I dont use it often aniways, but its alot of fun with the Motion Controller. I prefer having the buttons on the V2s versus the touch pad of Goggles 2.
Sorry I missed this. Been away for awhile. Im on Mode 2. Modes are a preference and i dont feel its got anithing to do with what you're used to. Im on mode 2 out of convenience. Because the rest of DJI drones that I have are Mode 2 by default and also the toy drones that I have bought and learned from are also in Mode 2. So it was convenient to stick to this.
Instead of switching to manual in the air, switch it with the drone on the ground. Give the drone some thrust to fully get off the ground, and then pitch it forward. From there, maintain forward flight and off you go! Some added info here: th-cam.com/video/gtvyRKTpzUU/w-d-xo.html
Sorry I missed this. Hope u have started flying and welcome to FPV! To answer u, nope it does not need GPS. I am able to fly the Avata around the house without GPS. I am in a No-Fly zone, and if it locks in to GPS, I would not be able to fly. In the house, it would need to rely on its vision sensors to stabilise it and prevent it from crashing around, so do expect alarms to keep beeping.
Sorry mate, at the moment there is no rates that can be adjusted in the goggles specific for throttle control. But if i'm not wrong, it can be done in DJI Assistant but I have not tried it yet. Gonna look into it in a future episode.
Wah. Sye pun mcm nk try tukar frame tu, tapi Avata bukan DIY drone. Tak boleh adjus PIDs. kalau bro ejust rates je takde difference. Nak kene ejust PIDs. Orang biase xle ejust. Tapi mungkin bukan pasal PIDs. Check controller. kadang2 calibration lari sikit. Try calibrate.
Hi. I'm having an issue very weird. When I switch to manual mode the Avata shakes but after it flies normally. In other modes it's fine. Do you know what it can be?
Sorry need clarity of what you mean by shakes. Iv seen severe shakes aka oscillations from my DJI FPV because I changed to aftermarket props. But goes away when I start flying off from static hover. The Avata should not have this. Is there anithing that you may have added to it like an additional camera up top? Its fairly tuned to be stable at hover, and I dont experience any form of oscillations, BUT it does wobble a bit at high winds. I find the tuning aka PIDs of the drone not that reactive to deal with such situations, and that cant be tuned by the user. I feel as long as it flies normally after u set it off from a static position, then its ok.
@@TheReelRahim exactly this as you said. Oscillations just few seconds to assume the M mode in the air. Just in that moment. It started after a crash. I'm gonna check if is happening yet and try to record
Ahhhh. Could be an imbalance with the props since the crash. Just try change to the spare props in the kit and test flight in M Mode. See if it solves the initial oscillation.
@@TheReelRahim you right. Yesterday I tried to record with the same props and nothing happened. But now I changed to a new set of original props, because that one's were causing yaw tumble when in S mode at full acceleration, specially when use full acceleration in a suddenly way. Thank you very much for your attention.
Sorry missed this. I am often on 25deg. It looks slow when flying high up, but when u come close to the ground for those cinematic sweeps, then its a good speed to cruise.
Sorry I missed this and thanks! Personally I dont fly the Avata indoors in M mode. I can set the controls to low rate gains, but cant solve the throttle power. Its too much to fly in a space with a low ceiling, so Id rather be flying in N or S mode. N for smooth camera gimbal-like motion, S for faster response needs. Keep CONSTANT stick input and the output would be awesome. The only shortcoming with this is the Avata's gimbal is locked on the horizon, and the only way to face up or down while flying indoors would be to control the gimbal on the fly or locked in Manual mode. I would prefer to fly in M mode if i had higher ceiling clearance tho, like 2 storeys worth. Hope that helps.
How can I get my rates to .05? I can’t go pass 1.00. I can get the others ones to 0.54 but can’t get to .05. I tried the rates in liftoff and fly so smooth.
Im sorry mate, another friend from US mentioned that it could be because of the different regions we are in, and so input settings will be different. Not sure of how to solve this. Have not seen other YTbers provide a solution too. Have u done any firmware update? Maybe that could align things.
Sorry I missed this. Been away for awhile. Yea, good to go. may be abit soft for those that have gotten used to the default Avata V1/V2 rates, but workable and can just be fine tuned from there.
Sorry I missed this. Thanks for the headsup. Link is missing for some reason, but here is the link to learn more about rates: th-cam.com/video/PvuFUdfOMbQ/w-d-xo.html
Same question here! Can’t find that 0.7. I did put my settings at 0.07 but the drone would go up to max rate real quick, so I figue that’s more of a 0.7 and not a 0.07 help @thereelrahim 😂
@@TheReelRahim Rahim we all know the increments between 0.00 and 1.00. I wasted a battery trying to get to 0.7 and it's 0.07.
I ordered the avate with the v2 googles at amazon, expexting to get it today, you think the avata will be fine with the v2s??
Perfectly fine. I truly dont see the difference flying it with the V2s. Like image in the goggles will be just about the same. its just that you dont have headtracker mode. I dont use it often aniways, but its alot of fun with the Motion Controller. I prefer having the buttons on the V2s versus the touch pad of Goggles 2.
What rates are best to make avata faster going forward?
Change camera angle to manage speed. Here's my explaination:

Hello :D wich one mode u use ? 1 , 2 or 3 ?
Sorry I missed this. Been away for awhile. Im on Mode 2. Modes are a preference and i dont feel its got anithing to do with what you're used to. Im on mode 2 out of convenience. Because the rest of DJI drones that I have are Mode 2 by default and also the toy drones that I have bought and learned from are also in Mode 2. So it was convenient to stick to this.
how to launch avata straight to manual? tutorial please. thanks
Instead of switching to manual in the air, switch it with the drone on the ground. Give the drone some thrust to fully get off the ground, and then pitch it forward. From there, maintain forward flight and off you go! Some added info here:

In what angle?
do avata need gps satellite signal to fly/engage in N or Sport mode? i bought dji rc2 today, already update to latest firmware and bind it.
Which rate option is best for throttle control?
Sorry mate, at the moment there is no rates that can be adjusted in the goggles specific for throttle control. But if i'm not wrong, it can be done in DJI Assistant but I have not tried it yet. Gonna look into it in a future episode.
Saya baru tukar kepada frame axisflying, macam drifting skit lah.. kalau macam tu, di mana saya perlu ejust ya?
What angle is the cam set up on?
Sorry missed this. I am often on 25deg. It looks slow when flying high up, but when u come close to the ground for those cinematic sweeps, then its a good speed to cruise.
I love that set, but you'd have something to fly indoors
These goot for avata 2?
Sorry I missed this. Been away for awhile. Yea, good to go. may be abit soft for those that have gotten used to the default Avata V1/V2 rates, but workable and can just be fine tuned from there.
Where is the rates video?
Sorry I missed this. Thanks for the headsup. Link is missing for some reason, but here is the link to learn more about rates:

Hi Rajim. How did you get 0.7 ? I 've gone up and down the range on EXPO and lowest i can get is 0.07
Same question here! Can’t find that 0.7. I did put my settings at 0.07 but the drone would go up to max rate real quick, so I figue that’s more of a 0.7 and not a 0.07 help @thereelrahim 😂
0.7 is there to set...
Guys REALLY keep scrolling down. You will eventually reach 0.7. The range goes from 0.00 to 1.00. There are 100 selections in between.
@@TheReelRahim Rahim we all know the increments between 0.00 and 1.00. I wasted a battery trying to get to 0.7 and it's 0.07. I don't know what kind of AVATA you have over there but here it runs 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 0.04 0.05, 0.06 0.07.
Do a live tutorial showing how the hell you got 0.7. I set mine at 0.30
Not sure if theres an error in your comment. U say that u can reach and set at 0.30. So y cant u go to 0.7? Or do u mean u set at 0.03?
thanks. rates are better but i crashed again lol
Ooof. Whats the damage this time. Its been awhile, sorry I missed this. Have you got repairs going?
Hey there my guy I do appreciate your classes , definitely been attending 😂, had a question on the expo settings rates tho , I am a bit confused I am only able to set mine to .07 or .70 , yeah please forgive my ignorance I hated math class lol
No worries mate, some guys may have some issues inputting the numbers. See if this episode helps you out:
