      i'm also pretty stupid but i think i get a LIIIIITTLE bit of slack. it's flipping 2024 and this song has been overused too much i mean it's a great flipping song but i mean when it becomes an overused stupid ass fuck tiktok song then i hate the world. i agree with this but i'd like to point out that a song can have multiple meanings at once, no matter how the artist wrote it to be seen as. then at that point we have to determine what the artist wrote it for. people can have different views and interpretations, but we can't exactly say they're wrong and that ours is right unless it's what the artist wrote it for. till then all meanings are correct. i think this could be the intended purpose. but the lyrics can also be supporting nostalgia in a way. i'm not sure if "a nostalgia song" is how to describe Notion, but "a song referring to life and the world when it was simple and great" which IS Nostalgic so well i kind of just unproved my point but what the Notion would be that is a lie is "Everything will be OK" CALMING BUT THATS NOT TRUE AND THATS NOT HOW THE WORLD WORKS. anyway my point is that well i support and love this video and appreciate the... Enthusiasm XD LOL and the PASSION for this song and the explanation to us idiots. thank you so much and well ye that's all

    Unironically, this explanation made the song a ton lot more beautiful and poetic. Not because I didn’t understand it before, but because reading your explanation while listening to the song just triggered something in me. I’m not exactly atheist, but I don’t bow down to a god or anything. I believe in the existence of gods and stuff, just not like that.
    I think this song invokes nostalgia because of the tune and beat, but also because inheritly, even if we all share a collective brain cell, our brain naturally decipher the words into the deeper meaning. We just don’t consciously know it, so we call it nostalgia. It makes us feel deep emotions that we can’t place or otherwise explain, let alone have experienced. Hell most of the ppl who use this song in edits probably aren’t over 20 (I’m not). We don’t have a lot to be THAT nostalgic for yet.
    I loved this video. Good job.

    2:05 my interpretation (that fits more neatly within the song as a whole) is that the "sunshine" doesn't refer to happiness in life, but rather as life in whole apart from death, and that "this momentary beam of light" refers to this specific, finite life, so that the line as a whole means you won't live forever, but you can live now
    edit: typo

      momentary beam of LIGHT not LIFE, interesting interpretation tho

    • @whatami605
      @whatami605 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @@iExist543 no, the interpretation of finiteness of life is likely the correct one here given the nature of the song. "Sunshine" refers to to living another day, in this sense the metaphor refers to living in itself, There won't always be sunshine meaning you won't always be here to live (since sunshine means a new day), momentary beam of light then appreciates this "beam of light" as long as it is.
      The other interpretation referring to ups and downs of life does not match well with the context of this song since the song talks explicitly about mortality.

    • @sid8885
      @sid8885 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    1:26 "If you could pull the lever to carry on forever, would your life even matter anymore?"
    My intepretation of this line is that if you have the prospect, the promise of living forever and happily in an afterlife or be ressurected to a time of perfection, what would be the point of living here anymore if there's a much better place just waiting for you?
    Also this is exactly why I hate tiktok. They take short segments of songs, and people will only listen to THAT SEGMENT, and won't even listen to the full song to support their "favorite artist," and would prefer to listen to the lyrics videos or sped up audio edits. And no one actually listens to the lyrics; they just follow the trend. And it may sound odd, but humans have an interesting thing where we are attracted to things others are attracted to (a sadly hence as to why best friends are usually the ones to end up stealing your partners). So if you see a video- or a tiktok, i suppose- that has a lot of likes, you will probably like it too. The fact that so many people will claim that this is their "favorite song/artist" when they don't even actually listen to them fully or support the artists- it's genuinely infuriating. Also, please don't just take up after what other people say and make it your own truth. Discover things for yourself. Do your research.
    edit: My personal favorite The Rare Occasions song is actually Futureproof. I don't think it gets the recognition it deserves.

      The entire athiest belief system is built on trying to explain why the birth of the universe, or the universe before it, didn't create matter and break the basic laws of physics. We are tiny pockets of flesh that die so easily. and acting like we have any right to degrade other people over ideas our constantly faulting minds can't even fully comprehend nor prove, is what it is, acting. So I simply ask you, instead of insulting people for beliefs you cannot prove true or false based off your own unproven ideas, sit with them, get a drink, and have fun. I always was thinking about the second understanding of lyrics "the right one" (heaven bs stuff). But I think that the song still can be interpreted rightly and used as an nostalgia song, but definetly not by the part about being younger, more so by the "pull the lever, to carry on forever". It actually fits many medias, think about all the tvshows that are loved - they ended, in the right time too. When a show/game is going endlessly then its not appreciated as much as other things (I know you can feel nostalgic over old fortnite, or older seasons of a show, but its still in someway here, and doesnt "hurt" as much as the older series never returning (littlebigplanet, tt lego games, club penguin, whatever). As a non-native english speaker im also shocked by the illiteracy of the englishmen. You can literally hear in the "when i was younger part" that it literally is nothing about nostalgia. It could be literally used as a nostalgia song, and with deeper meaning, but some people are just dumb, and when you really think about it the part that is widely used just doesnt fit, and the fact that theres a part that could fit more - and would give an deeper meaning - is out there in this song, makes me feel something unexplainable. Conclusion: in the end, not even english people give a shit about english songs 😂

    Saying this here hoping other people relate somehow- for awhile ive kinda been struggling with identity. And because of religion it made me think i HAD to belive in some sort of afterlife to find peace. But that made me more stressed, thats when i realized i didnt even belive in it. I kinda saw the idea of heaven and hell as some made up story tale. This song kinda helps me realize its ok to not follow a religion, its ok to think this way. And that i should try to just appreciate life and the good moments as it won't last forever and thats ok.

    I swear people are such fucking idiots. I get why they’d think it’s “nostalgia” for them but just because ONE set of lyrics gives off that vibe it is NOT the main premise. One thing I would want to argue is that the instrumental does have that nostalgic vibe but I digress. This song exceeds in flying colors, for arguing about the concept of death and the afterlife. That I applaud the band for.

    • @RemnantsPvP

      imo the entire tone of the song gives me nostalgia, not just that one line
      i knew what it was about from the word jump, and it still gives me that vibe
      even then, it can be interpreted as saying to live your life so its worth looking back on (which it says several times)
      and looking back on things with fondness, bittersweet or not, is nostalgia
      the sing isnt written to be picked up by the "wrong audience" like take me to church was
      it gave that vibe and nostalgia was part of the message in it
      also, saying tiktok ruined it has always made me think people are dumb as hell

    Ok. Can I tell you why I think people are putting it in their nostalgic edits and what not? I think they are doing that because first off; if you take one part of the song, and put it in an edit. If your a random person, and doesn't know the song, there is no context that the song is about this, at all, unless you know it. Another reason is I think people put it in their edits is because the song kind of give of a like 80s nostalgic summer kind of vibe. At least it does to me. But yeah. That's just what I think. I mean personally tiktok is overrated and sucks ass but I find this nostalgic in a way. Only because of the way it's edited in the studio (specifically vocals). Because in March 2020 i went on a trip to Houston and during that trip I discovered the song Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood. Then from that point on whenever i hear that song I think of that trip, as it was a very fun one and was my last road trip b4 covid. Cuz to me, the vocals of notion sound similar in a way to how Sweather Weather sounds, and thus this song also reminds me of that trip. Thats literally the only reason i find it nostalgic. Not even the "famous" line 💀 tiktok shoulda at least looked into their music more like they did with AJR

      I'm a Christian, too. But you might have missed the point of the song. The singer isn't expressing his desire to live forever on Earth rather than Heaven; he is trying to portray the fact that he would rather live his life in the moment, enjoying the life he has now, instead of spending his entire life trying to get into an afterlife that may not exist.
      I do, personally, believe in Heaven. As I said, I am Catholic. However, I also believe in many aspects of this song. It's important to remember not to fall so deeply into religion that you forget that you are alive right now. It's important to live your life to the fullest while you're here. That does not contradict following God and the values that he asks of us.

    I knew the undertones of the song but i only like it for the actual music part. Without paying attention to the actual meaning it feels like a journey

    even the people who wrote it loved the nostalgia edits dude. they dont give a shit
    i mean, nothing contradictory exists in those edits 90% of the time
    the song is still, in a way, about nostalgia
    you know, since its telling you to live your life without subscribing to theist threats of eternal damnation?
    its telling you to live a life you can look back on fondly. looking back on things fondly, even if bittersweet, is nostalgia.

    All art is open to interpretation, no need to get mad at another person's interpretation just because you think differently
