I think a lot about how we live in the cyberpunk dystopia of the 80s, except our real version lacks the radical spirit of punk. We've all just been lulled into a sense of ennui about it all.
I just wanted to add that it's not just the younger generations that feel like this. I'm a millennial, so a bit in the middle. The internet, social media, newsfeed algorithms, targeted ads... they all came so fast for us, we just weren't prepared. We didn't have time to adjust and consider it. But now we've seen it eat away and corrode so much of people's potential, and markets and commodification have wormed its way into so many places it had no place being. I think we need to act both personally and collectively. In our personal lives, we need to be more conscious of how we spend our time, where we put our attention. How we raise the next generation and manage their access to unfettered, effortless entertainment at our convenience. But I also think we need to use activism to push back against corporate interest. Carve out regulation that benefits the consumer, that limits the space for ads and big data, that punishes subterfuge and psychological manipulation. I don't exactly know how this will work, but I know it needs to be done, eventually, and preferably before the companies get to write the laws for us. I recently became more active on old-fashioned message boards again. I've made an effort to read honest-to-good BOOKS again. I've bought figurines to paint. Little by little.
@@nakenmil yes! I did not mean to single out gen z because millennials are definitely in this conversation too. Thank you for bringing that up. I guess i aimed it at older gen z because we’re at the prime age of disassociation and just malaise with how the world is being 20-24. Thank you for your comment. It’s human interaction like this, and message boards, etc etc. that will help us make the internet serve US! I hope you liked the video
@@frky_fred Oh, don't worry: I didn't feel excluded, I think it's perfectly natural that you communicate with your own peers first and foremost. We all have slightly different experiences, but I think this sense that we are no longer the controlling our leisure time, and we no longer feel satisfied or enamored with what's being fed to us is becoming more widespread.
@@nakenmil dude like when you said you’re reading an honest to god book i laughed because i am too and it’s so refreshing to not have this CONSTANT stimulation. @@frky_fred I hear you man! It's been tough, but I've made myself read at least a few pages every night, and over time it's gotten easier, and I've gotten more excited about reading. @panther3618 does the minecraft do it? Cuz i’ve thought about taking yall on my hikes with me and sharing my thoughts there, but i can always blend multiple things!
2 things to say… 1st, I wondered why it was I was so captivated by this video, but then I realized that was every video I watched, I just didn’t realize it until now, when I reflected, and this video isn’t really saying anything new but I’m watching this to ease the anxiety that mostly was caused by this (social media) in the first place. 2nd I haven’t spoken to anyone new IRL in a while, even though I wish I could, yet not having done it in so long makes me afraid TO do it even tho I so wish to. Really I wish for a better opportunity yet I know I won’t be getting one anytime soon and if I keep this mindset of I’ll do it when it’s better then when (if) it’s better I won’t do it, though if I try to do it when I can I’ll have the same hesitation, and I can only do it if I push through the suspense. 3rd, not intended but happening anyways and I won’t change the beginning, this video, as it is, I have an odd suspicion of. I feel it was made by Ai yet I can’t tell. This worries me; however Ai or not it was the straw that broke the camels back and I will appreciate it wether from human or Ai, as it likely wasn’t made by Ai but rather a human using the Ai, and the the thought itself wether for greed or not is comforting, and even if it’s purely Ai, atleast the Ai is moving towards a wholesome direction and not an unwholesome one. WOW that got off track.
@@ChiefMakes let me ease your worrying. I’m not AI, i dont use ai other than to brainstorm. The whole video was written by me, flaws and all. I’m sorry that it s hard to trust that but I have other content on my youtube channel that can hopefully prove that im real. I hope i convinced you even a little bit. I’m really trying to make some human ass content
@@frky_fred it’s nothing that you did it’s just that it’s late and I’m paranoid because I’m watching TH-cam and ironically I’m watching TH-cam to ease that
Lol i completely understand. I’d say take a lil break from the internet. Like i said in the video, do something you’re genuinely interested in. It will get better.

Oh i love that. It’s perfectly into the technological dystopia. We have all the negatives, some positives too, but mostly the negatives lol
I randomly saw this, read the title, thought for a second (more than most titles do) and clicked on it because this is how I feel.
@@ChiefMakes i hope you like the video! Let me know what i can improve
@@frky_fred read my other comment, in it I get wildly off track by the third point but I think it has some interesting information
