Wow, this is so helpful. I have extremely dry eyes from Sjogren’s disease and even with prescription drops I sometimes have irritation and swelling and in checking my makeup, sure enough, it’s waterproof. I’ve had two different ophthalmologists during this dry eye journey and neither have ever mentioned makeup and I never knew to ask about it. It should be standard procedure for doctors to ask the patient if she wears make up and if so, have this discussion. You’ve done us a great service doctor, thank you!

Thank you soooo much! I am so glad this helped you. You're right, this is a great thing to ask all patients.

Is there any eyeliner that you approve of as long as it’s below the waterline, or below the oil glands, Including my make up tattoos

Thank you so much. I'd never even heard of any issues with waterproof makeup. I stopped wearing makeup daily a few years ago. I wore waterproof mascara and eyeliner for years. I always had what I called "really tired eyes" by the end of the day and would rush to take it off when I got home for relief. I started having very dry eyes 5 years ago and finally went to an optician for an eye test and advice. I use drops daily, found a brand that gives some relief. Dry eye is quite miserable as you wake up with tired sore eyes before your day has even started. Noone I've seen over the 5 years has ever asked about makeup. I'm going to share your video with my stepdaughter so she doesn't end up like me. Thanks again.

A makeup content creator recently suggested a little eyeshadow primer on the lashes as a means to help keep a curl on lashes that straighten out quickly (she had been using waterproof mascara for its curl hold). Does eyeshadow primer cause issues? Are the ingredients that keep the eyeshadow in place the same as the ones in waterproof products?

i haven't noticed a difference with waterproof mascara but i have had problems with hair bristles, they sometimes ever so slightly scratch my waterline when i apply mascara. Now granted that might be a skill issue but now i just use silicone bristles which is great because i can wash them frequently and i don't need to consider the type of brush a mascara has before i buy it.

Thank you for another informative video. I have sensitive eyes, allergies, etc.
I'd love to hear your perspective on pressed pigment eyeshadows vs pressed powder eyeshadows.
If I wear pressed pigment eyeshadows, my lids become sensitive to touch, my eyes burn, my eyeballs swell up, and of course there's excessive tearing and this all lasts for days.
I've talked about this on my channel and a lot of people aren't aware there's a difference between pressed pigments and pressed eyeshadow. I'd love to hear you speak about it. And, I'd share your video to help others understand.
Also, I've noticed a sensitivity in some Oxides. If Oxides are an active ingredient in an eyeshadow or makeup, in general, I have a bad reaction to it.
If the Oxides are near the bottom of the ingredient list and after the "may contain +/-" statement, I usually don't have a bad reaction to it.
    Thanks!
Also, the pressed pigment eyeshadow situation can annoy some people because pressed pigments are considered eye safe in other Countries but still not FDA approved in the US. Even if the FDA approves them, I'd still prefer brands state it's pressed pigments for those of us with sensitivities.

Great video! I’ve been trying to move away from waterproof mascara, and I’m using Japanese tubing mascara (heroine long and curl or volume and curl). Are they better or the same as the waterproof mascara?

wearing or waterproof version of such. In Canada so not sure what brands
      are good etc.

I'm curious too but I worry tubing mascara is not great either. I find my eyes get more irritated with tubing mascara compared to standard mascara. Not sure if it's just me. I know the thrive tubing mascara was mentioned in this video but it's specially that mascara that I noticed my eyes getting watery from.

THe thrive mascara is stated thats its water resistant on the web site, i thought water resistant mascaras are a no no? It removes so easily with warm water but my eyes are always tired and a bit more dry feeling when I wear the thrive mascara.
I tried the 20/20 beauty mascara and it feels so wonderful on and no eye irritation but its really hard to remove at the end of the day.
Which mascara thrive or 20/20 beauty is safer for dry sensitive eyes?

Hi, I was just diagnosed with ocular rosacea. I have stopped all makeup for 3 weeks now because my eyes were a mess. I have been researching what anti-aging skincare and makeup is safe for my eyes, but it’s very difficult. This video was so helpful to me. Do you have any suggestions for any suggestions for concealers, anti-aging serums for the eyes, corrector since I am dark on corner of eyes. Thank u so much for taking the time. Julie

Could you please do a video about the new Augustinus Bader Lash and Brow serum, whether it is safe or not (ingredients) and whether there might be side effects (is there prostaglandin or analogs of it in it?)

Dr. Rupa - I’m a daily mascara / eyeliner wearer, but not waterproof, and I noticed I have some black dots / accumulation under my upper eyelid just like in the picture at the beginning of the video! (Not quite as much). Is this dangerous? Will it ever come off on its own? Will wearing lash extensions be a better option if I know I won’t discontinue mascara ?

    • @DrRupaWong
      @DrRupaWong  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Steph! The conditions waterproof mascara can cause are listed at 4:10. If you want to continue wearing mascara, that is fine. I would say you should stop using waterproof though. Watch at 6:20 for my advice on this. Are you okay with using regular mascara? Lash extensions also come with their own set of issues.
Here is a video I have done on lash extensions: The Truth About Lash Extensions | Eye Doctor Explains - link here:th-cam.com/video/XH6TyJEoObI/w-d-xo.html
