  • We took an Orca Voyager day cruise through the Kenai Fjords National Park where we saw seals, puffins, bears and of course ORCAS! After the boat trip we tended to some van life issues before exploring more of Alaska the following day. (speaking of issues, the footage of this day is a little blurry because our camera settings were off- we had seen the Northern Lights the previous night and forgot to reset our setting- oops!)
We visited Kenai Fjords National Park in September 2022

I have the same Noco, they're great! My vans 12v is not active after the truck is shutoff. I believe I did the same cruise and only saw mountain goats. Their hoofs are loud and they literally can go straight up. The Glacier was calving as well so we got some ice. Coming back it was cold and rough. Our Captain was a woman and she did a great job of dodging rough water - but still rough. I didn't see any lights, didn't get any night shots ether. Mike got a little beat up on this video, ouch... Safe Travels!

I am so happy that Mike got to see his orcas! How exciting. Absolutely beautiful. I'm always amazed at how blue the ice is. I remember when you were building out your van, way back in the day!

Just an FYI. The Noco boost is working great. BUT everytime you drain your battery that low you are taking years off the life of your battery. Do a load test on your battery when you can. You don't what to be in the middle of nowhere when the batteries completely dies.

We will have to do that for sure! Thank you for the suggestion, we really appreciate it and you watching! Thankfully we haven't forgot about unplugging things in a while/haven't drained our battery recently (knock on wood)

You were almost Gillians Island with a six hour tour. lol what beautiful scenery. I love how Heather blames Mike for the jackery and the bed - go teamwork 😂
Actually thank you I would not have thought about taking a battery charger other than jumper cables. But 😳😳 what if no one is around. Adding to my list.
@Geniuschargers NOCO - sponsorship? I'll definitely buy one with a Heather and Mike sponsorship. 💕
Can't wait for the next video.

No, we are not sponsored by NOCO Boost! We just honestly use it a lot (more than we would like to admit) and genuinely think it is a great thing to have because there would be so many times we would be stranded if we didn't have it lol And yes, I (Heather) am a professional at blaming Mike, it is my job to keep him humble haha just kidding! Thank you so much for watching, we really appreciate it!

You are right, the cruise was great! Although you never saw a whale you are sure to have seen some other amazing things working for 15 years at sea 😊 That sounds incredible!

Thank you guys once again for a great video. Just curious to ask, how is your van doing after driving it for so many miles this past year and still have to make it back home to Buffalo? Are you planning to upgrade to a larger van for future travels? I'm asking because I am still searching for the right van; however, mine will be a one-time deal, I already own a travel trailer.
Stay safe, have fun, and continue the good work.

Our van is doing great! (knock on wood) The only things we have had to fix throughout our travels was a hose (as seen in our Ohio video haha), an O2 sensor and most recently a wheel bearing. Fortunately we have not had any mechanical issues!
We absolutely love our van and don't think we could have traveled at the pace we did to see so many of the states in a short period of time in any other van. Especially when it comes to gas mileage, our van keeps gas expenses relatively affordable. Honestly, the biggest reason we chose the Transit Connect is because we could not afford a bigger van. The full size Transits, Promasters, Sprinters, buses, etc. were significantly more expensive. But, because we are moving so fast and spending so much time out of the van the small space in the back is not that big of an inconvenience. That being said, if we continue to do van life we would upgrade to a bigger van!
We have talked about what we would do in the future and if we are to continue van life we would want to move slower. As a result we would be spending more time in the van which would make us prioritize the amount of living space in the back. We like to compare our van to being like a tent on wheels, the full sized vans to cabins and RVs/motorhomes to hotels. While our van has all the basic necessities and gets the job done like a tent would, we prefer more living space/amenities that a van/RV would offer. So, it really just depends on what kind of traveling you want to do!
All that to say, we would not trade the experience we have had in our van for anything. We are incredibly grateful that there was a van in our price range to be able to convert and that it has been so reliable. We follow people on TH-cam that travel out of their Prius haha there isn't one perfect vehicle to do this with, it is all about making it work with whatever you have/can afford 😊
Hope that helps! Best of luck looking for a van! Thank you for watching!
