Pretty impressive I've been watching John since he delivered news, played the games, speedran those games, theorized on those games, and now talked with the game developers.
NOW it makes sense! I remember watching Sun and Moon's animations in slow motion and being mind-blown at the detail and articulation of the movements, especially the hands! But knowing the core team came from Pixar, now it makes sense! All the character animations are fantastic, by the way. (Also explains why they naturally gravitated to animated jump-scares, the most memorable one that jumps to mind being Scrap Baby's)
Chill, it's not actually a big deal. That's just good design. They know people are gonna theorize about things- that's who they're selling these games to. Throwing something in that'll catch eyes is just logical. "TH-camr bait" is a generic and vague term that just means "sticking point." That's like saying "UGH, I hate that Sister Location has TH-camR BAIT because it included the scooper."
This is actually a normal thing. Think of big shows- for example like he mentions Gravity Falls. The producer used to be bait in his show all the time haha. Same with Stan lee (creator of marvel) during his comics he would put bait it’s just natural. Thinking on it now it’s like Stan lee said ages ago, “The one holding the pencil will write the story how they want to write their story.”
them talking about things not yet solved from Security Breach makes me want to go back to crafting some sort of insane theory about the Toy Chica and Mangle/Funtime Foxy plushies that are around the pizza-plex
@@Celtic1020 How? Stating that Glitchtrap is dead in PQ ending of HW2 shows us that it never happened, since for it to happen in the first place, HelpTrap ending can't happen because our protagonist dies after giving the VANNI mask to Cassie. Should I remind you that even in the ending of HW1, where Glitchtrap clearly traps us in the VR game in his Glitchtrap body and escapes through our bodies, we return to the main lobby. And it could never happen when we are already not the player anymore. It's the same thing which happens after HelpTrap ending of HW2. There is no difference. Oh, and PQ ending could only happen IF all 3 PQ arcades were played *beforehand* . We know that it's not the case since Vanny is still around and both her and Gregory are still being controlled by Glitchtrap. How? We see a newly made looking VANNY bunny graffiti right next to the wall of where we find the Roxy talkie. How do I know it was newly made? There is also a VANNY graffiti at the DayCare area on the wall, but it looks faded away and started to get erased. Before you say anything, we only find 3 VANNY graffiti in Ruin, and only 2 of these are bunny shaped. So it clearly shows us that the Roxy talkie Cassie finds was placed there on purpose, and that Vanny still exists (which is a persona that exists because of Glitchtrap in the first place). As for Gregory, he's very suspicious at the elevator ending and he changes personality when Cassie gets into the elevator. Glitchtrap is still in him, that's why he changes personality ever so slightly (at first, he's very eager to make Cassie go to the elevator in a slightly angry and impatiently, but then he sounds genuinely sorry for what he is forced to do. that, and us never hearing his "friend" even thought they should have been the one giving Cassie the directions in the first place instead of Gregory). So all of these show that Glitchtrap is still active and around. Actually, I have enough proof to show, and only from the games, that Glitchtrap is William's soul, and he is actually Entity from Ruin. Entity is a ghost trapped inside the MXES machine/system. He's not a part of it, he's a virus, an anomaly. Just like Glitchtrap was in HW1. And because of all these evidence and things we have from the games, I can say that Glitchtrap is far from gone. He's still in the game. It's just that our fandom decided to make him the "good guy" instead of looking at the very obvious details.
scott left the franchise in capable hands tbh, the team seems to genuinely care about the franchise and are having a lot of fun with it. Great to see :)
1:06:34 THERES A DOG CAMEO AT THE BOTTOM LEFT CORNER OF THE SCREEN!!!! 10/10 interview (jokes aside) this interview was very validating and the amount of care they put in their products is so awesome (also i feel like we got lore hints or smth maybe) either way this is really good to know that Steel Wool is thriving and doing well (also i'm curious what game got shipped the whole south park movie lol)
Logged the most hours in Security Breach out of any FNAF game so far. Finding all the hidden rooms in the post-game was really interesting, and haunting in a way that the interiors of The Shining are. Cool to think that people will be able to point back at the newer games and understand them a bit more in the future!
This makes me happy to know that Steel Wool cares so much about this franchise. They care so much to work with Scott and to listen to criticisims and the views of others. We are in good hands with the FNAF franchise. So much has already happened since Scott retired, and even though it was a sad day, it went from a sad day to such an AMAZING future. congrats on the interview John!!!

31:21 I really want a Security Breach prequel to show us why Gregory is suspicious and to make Vanessa more of a villain/character... Playing as an adult could be interesting as that is a neat POV change
@@Mattsuki exactly, in fact, a rule in media is, if something outside of the product has a lot of relevance to understand the product then your very product is considered useless
I have never played a FNAF game (a little bit of pizza sim) but there’s something about the TH-cam community that’s so comforting I just leave fnaf videos on in the background. This interview was really well constructed and you were great given you’ve never done anything like this before
straight up, when he was talking about the colors of chairs it reminded me of the Smash Bros theory that Waluigi was going to join Smash Ultimate cause of the Purple and Yellow chair in the background of a video Sakurai made😭😭 great interview and I'm so glad to get more insight of these games, it definitely makes me appreciate them much more than when they were first launched.
1:11:02 this right here, I cannot stand it when peoples theories are the only way for someone’s views. No matter what theory you have especially about the newer games, don’t force anyone to think this way. We are a community as a whole! Not meant to be divided.
Agree I will never understand why people very toxic in Reddit dude everyone have his own theory/opinion about it the lore so what is the reason for fight just to make yourself like I know that is the correct answer and the only correct answer lol if you asked me that ridiculous and disappointing too 😐
I appreciate the sentiment, but you're kinda contradicting yourself. We can't be an undivided whole with opposing theories; especially since, without a common baseline, we can't actually move forward with new theories. That's actually a big part of FNAF's problem; in the first couple of games, the early stuff was confirmed as new mysteries arose, and that kept everyone on the same wavelength. But now? Theories have to be built on theories. And the more that happens, the more peoples' views on things diverge, and the less people understand each other. Interestingly, I imagine that's how different philosophies/ethical codes/religions diverged.
1. Holy crap this was amazing! So glad you got this opportunity!! 2. There is a little doggy that pops up in the bottom left corner around 1:06:37 💖💖💖💖
This interview was amazing. It's my first time hearing John’s first time asking several questions about Security Breach. It felt so genuine. Congrats John! :D
You did amazing John! I was amazed that this was your first time 😳😳 you did SPECTACULAR!! absolutly amazing questions, wonderful atmosphere, and you were as charming as ever!!
I love the way Steel Wool has handled FNaF and after watching this I love it even more. I think the coolest moment for me was the one about Security Breach and Ruin and how it was intended that we should see the functional version of the Pizzaplex before seeing it ruined. Also the South Park Movie thing was pretty great xD.
Nah they didn’t handle FNaF well, they have a fundamental flaw of making bloated games, they’re literally open about encouraging scope creep in their studio, they need to lock in or Scott should give the franchise to another studio
@@qwerty3-zt1oo I've loved all the games Steel Wool have made so far, but I was mostly talking about story wise. I love how they handled the story. They've kind of started a new era of FNaF, if you'd wanna put it that way. But I guess you have your opinion, and I have mine.
My story is similar. I started my own game dev studio too! Scott and Steel Wool Studios were my inspiration to start, as a matter of fact! That was several years ago. I'm the head of the studio, and the name is "Southpaw Studios." We pay lots of attention to the environmental storytelling, especially because of the work Steel Wool has done. Security Breach was one of the greatest games I've ever played through (multiple times, lol), and it's amazing how far the franchise/series has come!
Theory things of note from interview: Next game likely involves Cassie Voice box in ruin isn't the same one from SB Ending of HW2 is confirmed to be Vanny destroying glitchtrap
SUCH wonderful questions, ones I never would have thought to ask but then couldn't wait for the answer once you'd asked it. Phenomenal job with this John! I'm sure it was a heap of work to set up, prep, frame, shoot and edit but it totally paid off.
Before I watch this, I just wanna say I'm so happy for you John. I first got hooked by your midnight motorist videos, and I've been eager to watch every new one. Seeing you do these huge interviews and stuff too is also so cool.
TBH, even though I’m a newer fan of the game series, I liked the direction Steel Wools was going for SB, especially the clash of the “old and new” times. 😅 They seem to really listen to the criticism, as RUIN and HP2 seem to bring back that horror vibe the old games had. Can’t wait to see where this goes next! ❤🎉
21:38 Yeah, people can miss hints easily, thus flashing objects or overlaying effects/lights to get people's attention. Even in a weak engine like rpgmaker you need super obvious hints at least for the opening act, till they learn what to expect from the fictional world.
I loved this interview. And I must say as an avid south park fan and fnaf fan hearing him mention the south park movie on the game felt like my two hyper fixations coming full circle
im glad steel wool is being very active with their community. makes the process alot more visible and you can see the amount of work they put into the series
Love love love the interview. Very interesting insights into the process of game development and whatnot. the one question that i wish was asked is about the story of SB. The first trailer we got compared to the game we got were vastly different. Vanny and Vanessa being such a big part of the trailers ended up being pretty absent in the game. I’ve always been curious about what happened there
help wanted 2 and ruin have truly brought me back to loving steel wool after going through the rollercoaster of adoring help wanted and then the less than stellar security breach.... but i have LOVED the two most recent games from steel wool and am excited to see where they go from here!
Something I have seen no one talk about is the fact that the instructor nurse telling you what to do with Helpy is labels carnival nurse in the close captions.
Look at our lad go, you've come so far, man, you've earned every bit of opportunities like this one. Super excited to see what the franchise (and you as well!) have in store for the future!
Security Breach is what got me into FNAF and despite it's bugs I just love it. Ruin was phenomenal and Help Wanted 2 is my favorite FNAF game ever. Basically, Steel Wool is just amazing!
The way John is tryna stay so humble, and is just completely enjoying himself is soooo genuinely adorable. Him being happy is making me Happy for him. 😁😊🤗🤭
thoroughly enjoyed this whole interview. Really validated all the reasons why I think FNAF is one of the best games with their storytelling techniques. Steel Wool has already done an amazing job when Scott passed the torch to them, I'm so excited for what will come in the future. And of course to hear a dev compliment our lovely John's super sleuthing skills just warms my heart. So proud!!
Hope this means they're open to even more interviews in the future, or even just more interviews with other people in general. Super awesome interview!
Great Interview! whatever comes next for Fnaf, While Yes, finds Balance in The Scare Factor, I hope They Don't Limit it That much. Like, the Invader Zim series, Or Something.
WOW hearing about the elevation of Steel Wool’s journey with this franchise was crazy from going from 11 people working on Help Wanted with the project only being Fnaf 1 in vr to then finding out that Help Wanted 2 aka one of the best games in the series was made in a year CRAZY everyone at Steel Wool is super talented and hopefully they know how proud we all are of them and their work for both this franchise and the community ❤️❤️❤️
30:40 Great mindset. Leaving riddles for the ages and making the past immutable are good traits for the franchise 35:45 He is still my 3rd favourite character in the franchise. His writing is hilarious, his delivery is some of the most realistic videogame dialogue ever (I know, I work with recordings), and he has so much personality. I still want to see him again

I love this interview so much. It was so chill and fun to watch and it really did seem like two friends talking. I can't help but be amazed with Steel Wool and even respect them for how much they grew and how much they care about the franchise and the fans and how much thought and respect they put into the process and how their teams work.
" A game is never _'finished,'_ it is only ever _'shipped.'_ " I never knew who said the line, but as someone who works with a bunch of indie devs, it's one of my favorite quotes. That there is always something new you can add, one more layer of polish you can give. Ultimately though, you can't risk feature creep and you just need to lock down (atleast) an idea of what the "shipped" state is gonna be.
What a great interview!!! Congrats John!

Pretty impressive I've been watching John since he delivered news, played the games, speedran those games, theorized on those games, and now talked with the game developers.
Thank you for sticking around :)
Plot twist: Cassie's favorite cake is carrot cake so Steel Wool can buy loads of carrot cake and write it off as a business expense
putting themselves in the shoes of the main character to think better 😎 in reality they just wanted carrot cake cjdkkg

I will say Cassie having that ark where she fixes Chica also is a good call back to her dad being an engineer and “caring” for animatronics
This interview was awesome. This didn’t feel like John’s first time asking questions. It felt so genuine. Proud of you John! :D
NOW it makes sense! I remember watching Sun and Moon's animations in slow motion and being mind-blown at the detail and articulation of the movements, especially the hands! But knowing the core team came from Pixar, now it makes sense!
All the character animations are fantastic, by the way. (Also explains why they naturally gravitated to animated jump-scares, the most memorable one that jumps to mind being Scrap Baby's)
its insane to see john becoming one of the heads on mount rushmore for modern fnaf
rooting for your success
I love every time there’s a little lore drop John looks directly at the camera to make sure we’re hearing this too
The Cassie Doll moving around... Carrot Cake for FNAF 10th Birthday... I get the hint, Steelwool. Can't wait!
So now we officially know TH-camr bait is a thing writers take into consideration when making the modern FNAF games💀
Did you forget to take your schizophrenic pills again?
surely it has been from the start
@@Umardoesart
It helps inspire theories, that's for sure 😂
Please do, now I need to know what they mean. Even though I didn't know the plushies existed till now
absolutely do it! I always was curious about them too! i like to joke that roxy had a Funtime foxy plushie becos its her gender icon
I loved seeing the Cassie plush appear in one place then in another throughout parts of the interview.
Bro casually dropping that Glitchtrap is dead was so funny
It really was xd so casual
It shows that that ending isn't the canon one.
@@xM0nst3Rxexcept that doesn't suggest it in the slightest.
Where?
Scott never left.
Loved every moment of it. This is huge, so well deserved John !! I’m so happy for you and all the opportunities that are coming your way !!! ✨✨✨
Iker te queremosss ✨💜
🥱🥱 Lame. In my franchise, it's an Alternate universe where Fnaf never existed, Scott Cawthon killed his family and friends in my franchise and that's the mystery.
This franchise is so bad, the lore is so boring, the animatronics are lame. Scott Cawthon writes bad and lame stories and then retcons everything. ITS JUST BAD STORY TELLING!!!! Scott Cawthon makes games, stories and has someone make movies, Scott Cawthon makes people's lives miserable and doesn't care who he hurts, he's sexist towards Women and people of his own gender. Making games about killing kids, his own family, people around him. He's a psychopath and a master manipulator. It pisses me off that Scott Cawthon does this and yet nobody cares, the fan/FANVERSE COMMUNITY praises a psychopath and a master manipulator. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 I'm so glad that my franchise doesn't have that crazy shit. 😂😂
31:21 I really want a Security Breach prequel to show us why Gregory is suspicious and to make Vanessa more of a villain/character... Playing as an adult could be interesting as that is a neat POV change
Tales from the Pizzaplex actually explains your question about Gregory.
@@charredeggroll1967 Ik, but it's awful to put lore that crucial in a different type of media. I think it should be explained in game format too.
This interview was really well constructed and you were great given you’ve never done anything like this before
I wish we got an answer to changes in SBs story. It really bugs me how much was cut off, just wouldve been great to know more about it.
straight up, when he was talking about the colors of chairs it reminded me of the Smash Bros theory that Waluigi was going to join Smash Ultimate cause of the Purple and Yellow chair in the background of a video Sakurai made😭😭 great interview and I'm so glad to get more insight of these games, it definitely makes me appreciate them much more than when they were first launched.
1:11:02 this right here, I cannot stand it when peoples theories are the only way for someone’s views. No matter what theory you have especially about the newer games, don’t force anyone to think this way. We are a community as a whole! Not meant to be divided.
Agree I will never understand why people very toxic in Reddit dude everyone have his own theory/opinion about it the lore so what is the reason for fight just to make yourself like I know that is the correct answer and the only correct answer lol if you asked me that ridiculous and disappointing too 😐
@@cybershredder6882-darkk^!!
So true
There was someone on twitter where if you even joked about glitchmimic/burnmimic you would immediately be blocked
Accept your theory could be wrong is basically what he said and don't demoralize someone for having a theory and a opinion
i love jason and his machinations
Super proud of you dude and happy for you! Cant wait to see what the future has in store. Stay awesome buddy!

@ yeah mimic is better than having Afton come back
@@qwerty3-zt1oo One thing I didn't like too much was Afton in Security Breach. Like, it doesnt make sense.

Voice box in ruin isn't the same one from SB
Ending of HW2 is confirmed to be Vanny destroying glitchtrap
This was an awesome interview! Amazing job John!!
This makes me so happy to see John developping into this amazing interviewer, creator, theorist. The character development is crazy. I love it!
SUCH wonderful questions, ones I never would have thought to ask but then couldn't wait for the answer once you'd asked it. Phenomenal job with this John! I'm sure it was a heap of work to set up, prep, frame, shoot and edit but it totally paid off.

FuhNaff started out as a Twitter account and now he's interviewing Steel Wool, congrats John ✨
This guy is great. Makes me trust Steelwool more.
I had the same exact thought, I feel we’re in great hands now.
TBH, even though I’m a newer fan of the game series, I liked the direction Steel Wools was going for SB, especially the clash of the “old and new” times. 😅
They seem to really listen to the criticism, as RUIN and HP2 seem to bring back that horror vibe the old games had.
I’m so happy you got a chance to talk to these guys! You deserve it :)

im glad steel wool is being very active with their community. makes the process alot more visible and you can see the amount of work they put into the series
Great interview! I only wish John had brought up the Cassidy filename being switched out when he was asking about file snooping at the end

" A game is never _'finished,'_ it is only ever _'shipped.'_ "
I never knew who said the line, but as someone who works with a bunch of indie devs, it's one of my favorite quotes. That there is always something new you can add, one more layer of polish you can give. Ultimately though, you can't risk feature creep and you just need to lock down (atleast) an idea of what the "shipped" state is gonna be.
1:09:03 So important because he says colors have a meaning, and the items found in the games are put there for a reason.
