How to Test for Tempered Glass

- Wilson Glass in Berkeley shares the little known secret with the world. Many times Building Inspectors force people to replace tempered glass that has no label. Now, maybe you can convince the inspector with SCIENCE.
Good job on the polarized light info in your video, but it's a shame that the annealed glass didn't have a notch so that you could compare apples to apples, also you should try it with laminated glass with the same notch as well. In fact laminated glass with the notch cut before lamination and the notch cut after lamination.
Won't work with OLED screens
How well this test works depends on how the LCD screen you're using as a light source is polarised. I've found the screen on an iPhone 5s doesn't work well for this test (with a straight polariser from an old nokia mobile screen I can't get the white light to black out from the iPhone - but other models of phone, and laptops work great).
So if it doesn't work for you like it did in the video then try a different LCD screen.
Also, polarised items with circular polarisers (like polarised sunglasses) won't work as clearly as this demo. The thin plastic polarisers from disassembled calculator displays or really old mobile phones (non-smartphones) are good. Smartphone displays tend to have their polarisers all bonded to the glass.
This works for amoled screens only
Very cool. Just took apart an aquarium. Assumed tempered. Result: Not.
Great video, it kept me from blowing up my aquarium! :-) Thanks!
Awesome, I work with tempered glass and I had no idea it was so easy to do this test. Thank you!
I don´t understand it. I´m tempering glass and It interests me.
A simple but effective and non destructive method to determine if a glass is tempered or not, Thank you
excellent work

I will make another video soon. Maybe I can make it more understandable. Thanks
