    Danke Thomas!I've owned an NA and an NB, and I've got to say the ND looks great. The quality, fit and finish are way beyond the previous generations :)I live in Toronto and with proper winter tires drove both cars through Canadian winters. Even with the soft top they were warm, although they could be a challenge to drive with winter boots because the pedals were close together. The big problem was pot holes. The cars were so low deep holes could be a problem, but fortunately I avoided broken wheels and suspension. Unfortunately at the time I didn't have the finances to own two vehicles. If I buy an ND I'll definitely put it away for the winter.If you ever make it to Hiroshima Japan, do a Mazda plant tour! When I was there in 2013 the MX-5 was made on the same production line as the Mazda2. It was funny seeing one LHD MX-5 in the middle of RHD home market Mazda2's!Anyway, thanks again for the great review. Spain looks fantastic also!

      Autogefühl I have just watched the MX5 RF video. I like the convertible version even more. What a beatiful design both open and closed! Below one ton in weight, 200 kg less than the predecessor!!! Naturally asperated engines! Do you think other manufacturers will come back to the non turbo engines as well?
      This small roadster hopefully will be a forerunner also for normal small cars for every day use. Light weight, not more than 100 hp (enough for a mini or super mini), reasonable space for 2 to (occasionally) 4 people and a decent trunk. A nice suspension and an easy handling. A handsome design and a good and durable build quality at a fair price. That' s it. What else do you really need? I grew up with Mercedes /8 diesel or first generation Golf and Polo for example. I can feel the insanity of big luxury sports cars, sedans and SUVs even more than the younger generation. A modern Volkswagen Golf has about the same weight as a Mercedes W124 in the nineties. What does that tell us? The Golf is upper middle class in every aspect. It' s a fullsize car. In the estate version perfect for a four person family. And definitely with a maximum of 150 hp more than fast enough. The carelessness of many "car guys" today about our environment and their reckless behauvior in traffic is really pathetic. The only thing that counts for them: I want more horsepower, I want to drive as fast as I want, I want to drive as loud as I want etc. etc. etc. I...I...I...want...want...want... A person who also cares about future generations can' t get excited about all these bragging, showing off horsepower monsters.
      SUV here, SUV there,
      we want SUVs everywhere.

    Hi Thomas!
    I must say that I love the new Mazdas, maybe all of them. The looks, sporty driving and aside from pre-lift 6 and CX5 - the interiors with infotainment system. I really hope they will keep up with good sales. Naturally aspired engines - there is always interesting to see someone go entirely different route compared to others.
    I do wonder if the soft top version will be fine without being kept in garage, only outside. The polish weather is rather playful nowadays, perhaps the german also is ;) It looks like a good car to live with. Even though mileage should not mather with the fun factor, but I can really see myself commute with this little light car to work, getting some groceries. I guess that is why it became such success. However having it as only car can be a challenge especially for vacation =]
    If I had to pick next video then how about facelifted Mazda 6. The interior looks amazing and it is very hard to recognise a japanesee car by it. And that is meant to be a compliment by comparing it to european competition!

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +bartiz12 Thanks for the feedback! We ll get a Mazda6 Facelift for you. About the soft top, the new softtops nowadays are also very durable, there is no need to worry. Still, I would also feel more comfortable myself to keep it under a roof :)

    Thank you Thomas, for your detailed reviews. They give a sense of what the cars you test are really like. Did you spend any time driving the car with the top up? I am curious as I live in New City and if I get the Miata, I would spend some days driving with the top up. How is the outward visibility driving it that way?

    I love cars and im young, so don't have money to spend on them. This would be the be the perfect brand new "budget" fun car for me, love the way it looks, and i think it's really well equipped for the price both in the usabiliy and performance aspects. Love it. Plus it's really cheap to maintain!

    I love this 4th gen MX5! Very unique design that somehow looks retro and modern at the same time. I see the "Jaguar" similarities in the rear but it's not a direct rip off in my opinion. I really think the slim head lights is perfectly suited for this car. It's a more minimalist approach to it's design.
    That roof mechanism is brilliant - Simple, and functional.
    I'm sure many people are thinking, "I can't wait until they slap a turbo on this thing".

  • @primarulgiurgiului
    @primarulgiurgiului 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I normally don't like a soft top. I fear water may leak in or noise is louder or being in Romania, I fear someone might try to cut the fabric roof with a knife, trying to get inside to steal from the car... I see a lot of drawbacks but I just want to say I love the way this roof opens and closes with one arm, so fast and easy, it is just amazing. Great little car, I am always happy when i see a MX5 on the road.

    Good review Thomas ! - I applaud Mazda for sticking with the original concept and actually returning closer to it with this version. As you pointed out in the review, most manufacturers bloat their models over time so that previously small and agile cars have evolved into lumbering giants weighed down by tech. Mazda have stuck to producing a small and relatively lightweight vehicle, no mean feat when you have to comply with all of todays crash and emission legislation. I think this version is much more appealing than its predecessor and I am sure will sell by the bucketload !

    Great review, thank you. I like the exterior design of the car very much. Also, great roof top system by Mazda - simple, light, easy to use. Not a big fan of the alloy wheels design, that is offered. My first choice would be a basic trim with a 1.5.

    Enjoyed the review as you mentioned a few details that other reviewers haven't discussed. I currently own an NA and NB but skipped the NC. Have a feeling an ND might be in the future! I think the more modern look was a necessity from a business point of view. Many owners are 50+ years old and also there's a little bit of stereotype that it's a "girls car". Therefore to try to appeal to more male drivers under 30, I think they had to go that direction to keep the production going.

By the way: an NB with equipped with 4- Pot calipers on the front and semi - slicks is everything but a girls car. I teached some Audt TT´s a lesson already ...

    sehr gutes review, wie gewohnt.
    das auto erinnert ein wenig an ein niedliches tier, wobei diese zusammengekniffenden augen nicht so recht ins bild passen. auch fehlt dem auto ein grinsen und vielleicht etwas größere und leicht aussehnde felgen. aber ich mag den "spirit" von diesem auto...
    und eine R Version und mit 250 PS und sportlichem Setup....für unter 60 Tausend wäre vermutlich der Kracher :/. sicher die anderen Sportautos in dem Segment haben so 300-400 PS, aber wiegen dann auch 400 Kg mehr...und sind keine Cabrios.

    excellent review! i'm curious about the limited slip diff. in the US, the top trim level (Grand Touring) takes away the limited slip and the beefed up shocks. you have to drop to the middle trim level to get the performance bits, but then you lose the leather. how much different is the handling on public roads (not the track) with or without the limited slip?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dan Cornelius Good question. I think it depends on how hard you are moving the car. Do you really need faster corner speed? I guess that will only apply to the very racyness drivers :) Btw loosing the leather is good. Less sweat. Especially if you are driving fast ;-)

    There's a big difference in value from the 1.5l engine to the 2.0l engine, but only a 30hp difference. I would really like to see the two cars running side by side on a track to comprehend the actual difference. But good a review, as always.
    Also, you said it is 200 Kg lighter then the previous generation, but it is actually 200 pounds (around 91 Kg) lighter, which is still a very good achievement.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Macavellic Good that you brought that to the discussion, to be very correct, there can be saved 'up to' 200 kg ... e.g. if you take the hardtop version in comparison.

      @Macavellic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hass Chapman In my country, cars with more than 1,750cm3 and more than 120g/CO2/Km pay exponentially more road tax, than cars with lower values than this.
      That's why I would like to see if the small gain in horsepower is worth it.

    • @HassChapman
      @HassChapman 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Macavellic I have driven both. The 1.5 is fun and nippy but the 2L was more exciting to drive. We've (my partner and me) decided to buy the 2L based on our experiences. But I understand that if the costs are much higher for the 2L then it might not be so clear.

    Yep,Recaro Sportseats,leather alcantara combination.But they are the cause,why my car ordered in december will be delievered in june :-(. Recaro is suprised of the overwhelming request.Because of the integrated Bose Soundsystem they need a special factoryline.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sascha Breuer Of course people want Alcantara, only way not to sweat like hell in summer on the seats. But quite often the manufacturers dont realize that. Too bad they dont put faux leather (Kunstleder) on the outside parts

      For me the important thing was the perfect sportpackage for low budget (Recarositze>Bilsteindämpfer>Differentialsperre>Domstrebe>Downforce durch Spoiler).The sad side is,that i can't ignore the gimmicks like park distance control only in the sportline (the first thing to have on trackday or mountainroads ;-)),bose Soundsystem,lane assist,Navi with Controller and seatheating and so on.My Audi TT is in this way individuell "downconfigurated", but for what a different price :-(.But really thanks for Thomas' detailled overview,for example the advantage of 160 hp on the highway.Not all buyers have short ways to/in the mountains!

      hi, thx Thomas, i asked the same to an mx-5 AT owner and he replied:
      "The AT shifts quick and smooth. It is as good as any and far better than most ATs. There are times however that I really miss shifting and the consensus is that the MT is really great. I don't think that you will go wrong with either. The MX5 is the car that I drive 90% of the time and I do not regret the AT but there are times when I wish I had the MT."
      then i replied:
      "that's exactly sir, we encounter traffic sometimes and that's when the AT relief us from the pain. i guess Mazda did a nice transmission since it has both paddles and stick, and the "shift plus/minus" is like the rally car shift down towards the front and shift up towards the back"

    Do you think it we'll ever make over 200 hp out of factory ?

    • @deurkl
      @deurkl 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +omar khan They would have to use a turbo, maybe they will do that in a few years, but you know Japanese culture, if they decided something (no turbo's for the petrol engines), it can take very long before that changes.

    • @djoetma
      @djoetma 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +omar khan The problem is not about the will to make a faster version, because the will is certainly there. However, Mazda has the philosophy with SkyActive wich became a leading thing. High compressed engines that are fuel efficient, yet offer the fun and character of a bigger (blown) engine.
      But a SkyActive in the MX-5 would mean a bigger engine, and thus a heavier engine, which would hurt the concept of a lightweight roadster. So then the only other option would be a turbo, which means a new development and the time and money that needs to be spend on that.
      But Kudo Hidetoshi (head pr Mazda) said that an MPS version is indeed in the back of their minds. So it's probably gonna be a new turbo engine. But if it will actually be made, it's not happening any time soon. MPS cars are more expensive anyway, and in these times more than ever worldwide people are not willing to spend too much money on a Japanese car.

    • @bartiz12
      @bartiz12 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +L.G.H. Djoetma I am not going to judge how real the rumors are but they say that Mazda has already developed turbo-charged 2.5l engine that makes around 320 bhp. It is supposed to power 3 MPS and new CX-9 (these are rumors, don't take them seriously, we will see that in the future).
      You can also wait for Fiat 124 Spider which is going to be based on new MX5. Abarth has already claimed they are going to make a very fast version of roadster :)

    • @fundiver198
      @fundiver198 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +L.G.H. Djoetma Question is, is the 2,5 liter 4-cylinder really that much more heavy than the 2,0? I think probably not. I think it is more about Mazda wanting to stick to the concept, that the MX5 should be relatively inexpensive and more about handling than straight line performance. This has been part of its image right from the beginning more than 20 years ago.
      Even just giving it the 2,5 liter engine, which is a stock option and therefore enormously easy to do, would move it closer to Porsche Boxster and BMW Z4 territory, which is probably not, what Mazda want to do.

    • @omarkhanlilcurry
      @omarkhanlilcurry 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They really pride themselves in the weight distribution. But why can't they do something like the 2.4 K24. thats .4 liters of displacement, but that could make a hell of difference.
      Or keep the 2.0 and stick a turbo in there. The miata is the type of car to have fun in, a turbo would really help with canyon roads and just simply add to the desire

    Real leather is better than fake leather. Why? Because fake leather is like plastic and it will crack after a year or two (my friend have fake leather inside his car and he is very disappointed), real leather is strong for many many years (but I like fabric most)

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Neo Hideo Wrong, high class artificial leather is more durable than real leather, that's why it is even used in luxury cars at the dashboard etc. There are also cheap and expensive surfaces, clearly. But besides that, using real chemically processed animal skin to sit on is just disgusting when you really think about it.
