There is a common misconception that getting lice means you're dirty, have bad hygiene.. in reality it just means you ended up in real close proximity to someone who gave you the lice. And has been that way for as long as lice have been found on people. 1 long chain of social interactions spreading lice between people.
@@Long-Horse I somewhat agree with you as I didn't washed my hair for some weeks due to some reasons and boo........The lice were gone for good. It was so much relief and happiness.
Also, they can turn white in order to camuflage into light colored hair, ao it's actually easier to catch them on dark hair, provided that the skin is fair, because they will turn dark to camuflage with the hair but then they appear more next to the fair skinned scalp.
One of the things they didn't mention is that lice don't do well on a dirty scalp. Yes, you heard that right. If you keep your hair clean, they tend to survive longer. Your best bet is to wash your hair with vinegar (white vinegar is best, as the stronger acids eat away at the glue holding the nits on to the hair) and comb those bad boys out into a bowl of alcohol. They do NOT like being dislodged and will wiggle to get away, so make sure you use a toothpick to clean the tines between combings. And make sure you put the comb into alcohol afterward! Nits will hatch on a comb and seek blood to survive.

When I first got lice, my mom didn't realize until during my bath. While soaking in the tub is when a single louse lost its grip and floated in the bath water. My mom initially thought it was a funky-looking spider that fell in and killed it. Then she noticed another louse floating around and then realized my hair was infested after taking a closer look at the body. Even though combing them out was the only solution of getting rid of them, I sometimes wonder if leaving my hair soaking in bathwater would have caused all the lice to lose their grip and float everywhere.🤔
@@richeese2705 Well yeah, but having the current population of lice swept away would lessen the time of removing the nits. There wouldn't be anymore adults to lay more nits.

As a person who still gets them this video was a good piece of information. I don't need to go to salons as I am a professional in getting rid of the lice myself 😂. It's the training worth of years still coming in use. Head lice aren't rly a sign of bad hygiene or simply being referred to as dirty. You get them from people who already have them or having your hair enclosed in a cloth(hijab like myself) which can create a good environment for it to breed on. Just make sure to comb using a lice comb daily esp in summers and u r good to go!

Try putting garlic paste on your head then let it be for half an hour and then shampoo it away, it really works in killing the live ones n damaging the eggs, do this again after few days or a week for about 2 to 3 times and you'll get rid of them, it always works for me ^_^.
Hi Recon SS. I produced this episode of Deep Look. Thank you for your comment. I believe you're referring to the soldiers during World War I who contracted trench fever, which is transmitted by clothing lice (also known as body lice). Clothing lice are essentially the same species as head lice, but make a living very differently from head lice. Clothing lice live and lay their eggs inside the clothes of people who aren't able to change often enough, such as soldiers in the trenches. These lice travel to the parts of the body under the clothes and feed on blood. While feeding, they can transmit diseases. Cheers, Gabriela
Coconut oil or olive oil works better and it's not disgusting like mayonnaise LOL suffocates them and it helps loosen the disgusting glue for their eggs. It also does the same thing for pet lice or fleas cheap safe and effective for all! LOL

My mom : you will fly and we will never see you again
I remember when I was a kid, I had gotten lice and my mom was picking them out by hand along with their eggs. Like how did she do it?
My dad did the same thing and I have dreads 🤦♂️
Lice combs are effective if you're thorough enough. And yeah, picking off eggs is alpha omega. You just need patience, hood lighting and good vision.
Yeah my mom would too and I would cry all the time because I have such a sensitive head
Umm I'm a Filipino. We pluck out the lice and their eggs by our bare hands ever since grade school probably 3rd grade and above.
@@yeppeunmicx 😲

R.I.P all the soldiers in WW1 who suffered all their days from lice :(
Hi Recon SS.
Gabriela Quiros Wow, very interesting.

Yes, indeed,@@eriyush

For anyone of you with lice I have one tip: Put mayonnaise in your hair!
It sounds gross, I know but it works super well!
I’ve done this before. Wait. I’ve had lice before and umm.. I forgot how long they last.
Coconut oil or olive oil works better and it's not disgusting like mayonnaise LOL suffocates them and it helps loosen the disgusting glue for their eggs. It also does the same thing for pet lice or fleas cheap safe and effective for all! LOL
Gasoline is the ticket!

I imagine that this is one species of insect that we could safely eradicate from existence without any negative effects. Good video!
True. Though I think if we have never evolved defense against it, it may have some benefit for us
Fast google search finds a paper on BMJ that found that early lice infestation is protective against allergies
@@pokoirlyase5931 The itchy feeling on my head proves otherwise.
Grooming is a defense against them.
Pokoirl YaSe bit we have other defenses against that, do you want me to give you some of my lice? You’ll beg for your allergies back. We should make them extinct if we easily can. The tiny benefits of having them are not worth it. *scratches head*

I don't have evidence but elders in Iran believe also that having lice will prevent from getting bald
although it needs further investigations but it doesn't sound silly as having lice probably benefit the blood recirculation near roots of hairs

As a kid I honestly never understood all the adult's concern when a head lice outbreak happened at school! My kid brain just couldn't comprehend how difficult it is to get rid of them. I actually remember thinking to myself "Surely if I had lice I could just go swimming or lay down in a bath with my hair under the water and they'd all drown!"
i don't think they're the only thing that'll drown 😂

@@fari7357 Apparently so, and as a kid I just couldn't get my head around that, and admittedly still can't today. Like are they clinging desperately to your hair while you're underwater? Are they holding their breath? What the heck are these little buggers and why are they so hard to get rid of?
