My most anticipated Terraria weapon review yet... The Pirate Staff. After much popular demand... well at least by one individual, I figured it was about time we finally covered the long awaited Pirate Staff.. A difficult but early obtainable summoner weapons, which f you manage to get a hold of, can seriously pack a punch in those early to mid stages of Hardmode. Pirate staff honestly has to be one of the most well rated weapons in terraria
As someone who fished for 25+hrs in prehardmode for sandstorm in a bottle (i was doing a special run and needed it) I'd say that the worth of grinding for an item can also be measured in the other drops you get alongside it. I was able to get like 30+ platinum prehardmode with all that fishing + full fishing set, golden rod, and finishing the super helper achievement lol.
Grinding for the pirate staff could net you lucky coin, discount card, and coin gun (as a support weapon), + tons of money. I'd say worth farming for if you have the right setup

The pirate staff really is the hardmode equivalent of the vampire frog staff. Inconsistent, yet insane potential dps, great with crowd control and bosses that it can reach! Very fun and overlooked weapon with the added variety of 1.4 summoner weapons

The pirates alone were my reason to grind more than 450 angry trappers for an Uzi. I was way too tired of getting ganked by them stinkers.

The bat bat is one of the best weapons early-game, and since you get it from, well, bats, it's easy to get. A great true melle weapon with good knockback.

In my first ever game, in the first day of hardmode, got a pirate invasion to spawn, and in that pirate invasion got the staff. It might seem like i was lucky, but fighting the pirate invasion with only pre-hardmode stuff, and without knowing half of the game's mechanics was a pain in the ass

I never knew the drop rate was so low, I almost always got it in the first pirate invasion in each playthrough
I am once again asking for a maximum classless damage build
No matter how powerful the weapon is, you're not making me grind pirates in early hardmode.
Btw, what i think is very rarely mentioned is that you can get pirate maps really nicely by doing the pirate invasions at the beach, I usually get 2 till 5 maps per invasion

hey soc, i was just playing terraria the other day, and i got a mage weapon that helped me slay plantera
i usually skip this weapon in my playthroughs, but i used it just once, and was pleasantly surprised
i'm talking about the magic dagger, it's easy to get, and checks a lot of boxes, it is quite reliable
please do a review on this weapon and use it in your next mage playthrough, i'd highly recommend it
Great video! Summoner is by far my favorite class but I have actually never used the pirate staff in my play through. On my most recent one I got it on like my first pirate invasion but I still used the sanguine bat staff.
sockrteez weapon review kit: start video with random pirate/goblin raid or frost/hallow moon music with background footage of a weapon being used at a mob farm, blur the footage and put white text over it, talk about the weapon, talk about how to obtain the weapon with bg footage of either a layer farm (if its an enemy drop) or a boss (if its a boss drop) and underground corruption music, talk about the weapon more, talk about the weapon even more, i forgot everything else dsorry
If you fight an airborne enemy with walls in the background, then the spiders can get to them
That's funny. I found all the pirate stuff to drop fairly common. I didn't realize they were such rare drops! I feel lucky!

I just got the Pirate Staff, Discount Card, and Gold Ring within the first minute of my first pirate invasion this playthrough. Pre-Mech bosses. Used a map I got while trying to summon a Dreadnautilis
I remember i was playing with friends one time and on our first pirate invasion we got a pirate staff, lucky coin, and discount card.

as someone who tried to be a summoner my first time playing Terraria this thing was a godsend as I got it basically the day after I beat the WoF and it carried me far enough until I had to replace it with the Blade staff for the Mech bosses
you should go over the firecracker whip, it essentially is a whip that gets better as hardmode progresses

The pirate staff is a good staff but I usually don't get it until I've already gone past plantera and by then i've got a better set of options to farm for
As a summoner main, this video makes me incredibly happy. Hopefully my baby boy the slime staff gets some love here soon cuz oh buddy I love that thing, even with its obscenely low drop rate I feel like it’s slept on as an early game summoner weapon
One thing to note about the Pirate Staff minion AI is that it will go for the enemy farthest away from the player first. This is best seen during the Old One's Army Event, once your pirates run off to battle, you probably won't see them again until either the Wave is done or the Crystal is destroyed. Niche situation, I know, but it's there.

Pirate Staff is actually an incredibly mid weapon that happens to be badly outclassed by Abigail's Flower on Queen Slime, Destroyer, and mobbing, extremely outclassed by Blade Staff on literally everything, and overall happens to be an absolutely horrid weapon choice. Of course, this isn't the case when you have 12 completely illegitimate minion slots and a video full of blatant lies that even a baby chimpanzee could identify immediately. Great going, dude.
Yeah it’s pretty mid for it’s obtainability. But I never said it was amazing lol? Also I used extra summons sometimes to make it more entertaining but i similarly did with other summons so it’s still fair :)

For me it’s an early hardmode “oh, I guess I have this now” item. I don’t play summoner (unless on a god character to view other’s worlds), so it’s just another extra source of damage for me.
I get this as one of my first weapons in hardmode with a box and a sword, i also do at ocean for even more maps.
i always love how sock man (w nickname ik) always grinds for the stuff in his videos and doesnt cheat like most other people would
Would love to see Calamity weapon comparisons/reviews. It'd be even more interesting as those weapons aren't quite as familiar as the vanilla ones
You know, I seem to remember an ancient video from Yrmir (that TH-camr who did the terraria 1.3 trailer) where he noted the spider staff was even more effective if walls were used to allow the spiders to crawl on them. Would that have made a significant difference in the testing against the pirate staff?
Its just at a point where yes the staff is good why not use the sanguine staff the dreadnautlus after you learn it is easier to me than the pirate invasion

I remember my frst time in hardmode like 4 days in a pirate invasion spawned and I got this thing after like 5 mob kills haha. I never knew it was so rare. I have gotten it more times during other playtroughs but never really knew how rare this thing is haha

Damn, I must be the luckiest man alive after finding out those rates because it seems like I cant go a single Terraria playthrough without instantly getting a Pirate Invasion and having two staffs by the time Im done with them
My first ever pirate invasion I got a total of 6 pirate staffs. I didn't like the weapon even though I had just beaten wall of flesh for my first time a d I only didn't like it because it seems so common. Now years later I finally appreciate it.

Got it in my recent playthrough on the first dutchman somehow. But I didn't really find it good since the blade staff can hit flying enemies. I see the use in a fight against Destroyer, but I would never actively grind for it.

You should do the Phoenix blaster, I know people think it's decent but it's like, *really* good. Definitely underrated, I take on WoF with the bone armor and this thing and it feels easy, every time. A good modifier makes it competitive or better than the clockwork at if it doesn't have a good modifier
Sleepy Octopod weapon review plss! I think its such an overlooked weapon because of the way you obtain it, but it actually might be interesting and fun to use, perhaps even better than its counterparts.

I got this when I summoned a pirate invasion on an expert world
I know they're meant to crush ground groups but I kinda wish they had even marginally better jumping ability because the bosses you fight at that stage of the game are majority aerial bosses.
Could we have a review on the wasp gun? I've never used it, nor do I see people using it on playthroughs, so I just get a bit confused as to why
3% pirate invasion? I must have some glitched game because it's almost always 100% when I unlock Hardmode

how about the dark harvest? the dark explosions acts like a pseudo 10 tag damage but it’s aoe, on top of a bunch of extra buffs, though i’m not 100% sure how it works and would need to test it
I really like the idea of summoning tiny pirates that crap and kill enemies, but their attack is boring. Maybe if every 2nd or 3rd summon it will summon a buccaneer, someone with a gun

(For context the blade staff's low base damage and high attack speed makes it work really well with whips that deal summon tag damage, especially if you stack summon tag damage by switching between multiple whips which gives it insane single target DPS that scales with progression. The firecracker does not do that as its effect has a set cooldown that doesn't scale with attack speed).
