Yeah, I remember reading patch notes and seeing that you could now jump from an enchantment table to the top of your bookshelves if you had a maxed out setup which was cool.
For those wondering thy this happens, it's because in 1.9 the game's physics were slightly tweaked. The part that is relevant, is something called the "minimum speed threshold". Basically, it's a number that dictates when to stop. If a player's speed goes under that threshold, your speed is set to 0. In 1.8, this value was set at 0.005, but in 1.9 it was lowered to 0.003. This applies to both vertical and horizontal speed, which is why you jump higher. In 1.8, the furthest you go is just slightly below 1.25 (1.249something idk the rest). In 1.9, your increased jump height allows you to barely pass the 1.25 mark. (around 1.252). This also does have a slight difference in horizontal movement, being that you slide on the ground (no input) a bit more. (This does make a big difference in advanced parkour where precise coordinates are needed). And no, this doesn't make you jump further as your airtime is still 12 ticks. You just go a bit higher/lower each tick.

actually playing in 1.16 makes certain jumps harder, its actually best to play parkour in 1.9-1.12 if you want the jump height but 1.8 is still the recommended version

Oh boi I could talk for ages about version incompatilibities. I have a lot of experience. In fact many of them can be found if you have played hypixel housing for a while. Ladder, glass pane/iron bar, sneak height etc. changes can cause rubberband and make eg. parkour houses impossible in 1.9+, but sometimes they can be reversed making 1.8 impossible. 1.13+ started changing more things, such as sign and trapdoor rubberbanding in 1.14. And these are just some of the most common ones. Although often in housing I can still complete the levels that change for 1.9+ if they are not impossible (I play in 1.12 don't judge) because I'm good at parkour. P.S. Most of these changes don't affect heavily other games on hypixel, mainly housing
9:35 i have to say that jumping higher doesn't move faster😂, jumping higher actually makes u move the same speed/slower. Basically everytime you jump you move faster, thats how headhitter and elevatation momentum works. Since u jump higher, you have more airtime, which makes you slower

Here's another advantage: In version 1.15.2 or higher, you can sprint while eating or crouching. That's not a thing in 1.14.4 and lower. That also makes the player faster.

This thing is known in parkour community since mojang made jump higher. Jumps like 1,25b high or water 3bc aren't possible in 1.8.9 without jump boost, levitation or tnt knockback, but they are very good choice for blip ups, method which makes you be able to jump higher

I actually knew this before because in my skyblock enchanting table i have the bookshelves in a ring around and i would always fall in and not be able to jump out :)
The best part about this trap is that people see you doing the jump and sees that you don't place blocks or is close enough to the trap so they would try to make the jump as well.

I thought, “huh you could use this as a trap” but was too lazy and bad at the game to use it as a trap
What you should do is have the trap ready without the enchant table, spam blocks about 5 blocks away from it, make the last block you spam an enchantment table and just run inside your base or with perspective mod. This should overall increase the efficiency of this trap.
if you were wondering the difference between 1.8.9 and 1.9+ is 0.125 blocks, or 1/8 of a block. in 1.8 you jump 1.125 blocks and in 1.9+ you jump 1.25 blocks
No most parkourists will tell you that they actually hate 1.9 because not only does it completely remove certain jumps but it also ruins lots of other things like timings and setups as well as making many jumps impossible
