Game just feels like a 3 point contest now. 40-50 3’s a game from one team has killed my interest. There is no 3 point specialist anymore because every player shoots them now.
The crazy part is that most teams might have maybe 2 or 3 guys who shoot 40% from three but will have guys who aren't proficient at all taking these shots, and it's ugly to watch. I don't care what the analytics say, it's not smart basketball.
1. lebron on steroids (allegedly) 2. lebron flopping 3. lying to our face saying bronny is great 4. no unique team identities 5. positionless basketball 6. no rivalries 7. team hopping 8. blatant traveling 9. load management 10. allstar weekend sucks 11. no defense 12. divas 13. no desire to win, just for huge contracts 14. horrible commentating 15. no plays, only threes and dunks 16. too many streaming services 17. horrible officiating 18. boring games 19. tired of hearing "lebrons the goat" 20. nba politicized
The other thing is, shaq and chuck have earned respect from their games too. Not only are they honest, and comical, they know wtf they are talking about. 2 of the best points imo - load management. I don't normally agree with this person often, but he was spot on about the load management, and the fact that it suggests the games don't matter. - the play in: Worst decision ever made by Adam Silver. Now the reg season doesn't matter at all. Unless you are a g league team there is no reason why you can't be one of the 10 best teams in the conference that only has 15 teams in it. Suggestions: - Get rid of load management, even if they have to reduce the games f4rom 82 to 70. People don't like this cause the arguments change in the barber shop and it shows a level of softness to the older eras, but its the best way IMO to make the reg season more exciting. - Get rid of the play in. I like robs idea of making it possible for only 10 teams to make it into the playoffs. It will force teams to care about the reg season, and it will make the reg season worth watching. But, the league is already top 10 heavy so it will make 20 teams irrelevant. Therefore, I suggest that the conferences are removed and the top 16 teams makes the playoffs. As a third point, style of play matters. Styles make fights. Every team is playing the same way - jack up threes. Its not even about the threes going in, its just boring basketball. I can watch that kind of basketball at my local if I want. I don't want to see that. The problem isn't just the three point shooting, its the fact that you can't adequately defend the three ball either. You can't land in the shooters space, your contest is basically just made to look like its a contest but its no different to the trainer putting his hand up. Its weak, its boring, and its repetitive.
The biggest issue for me is basketball feels like the WWE now. The refs clearly want certain teams to win at times. The media tell you players with a plus minus of -150 for the season is the best guy on the team. It is not about skilled players anymore it about making up fake stories to tell.
It's been this way for years when the league was marketing the bulls celtics lakers ,the wwe script has become worse over the years because of guaranteed money
JJ: "People aren't watching because media tells them it's a bad product." Because it is JJ. I'm only 31yo and only began watching basketball during LeBron's era. I surprised myself being more entertained by ATL vs BOS 1988 ECSF Game 7 on Prime Video than any NBA game I've watched post-2016. Dominique and Bird were amazing and both teams played with incredible defensive effort and the offenses were just more brilliant despite defenders being in their faces. If you have Prime Video I HIGHLY recommend you go watch that game.
It comes down to the rules 1. Bring back hand checking "perimeter defense" 2. Get rid of the Defensive 3 seconds in the key "interior defense" 3. Get rid of the 5 seconds back to the basket rule "offensive post moves" Do this and ratings go right back up guarantee but NBA won't listen 👂🏿
NBA inside views and ratings aren't declining for a reason... BECAUSE IT'S A GOOD PRODUCT AND ENTERTAINING! Why do you think they are an award winning program?? I would much rather catch highlights and analysis than watch 2 teams jack up 108 3s
It's a combination of things. 1. To many teams not enough superstars 2. No one wants to be known as just a high flyer 3. Players sit out too many games 4. Everybody plays the same way
What makes the 3 pointer problematic it took away the mystic of NBA players. There was only one Alan Iverson, Isiah Thomas (2 recently ), Steph Curry. 6’3 under stars. The athletic 6’3 above was about flying around the rim. We could never do it because we didn’t have the height. 6’6 above. Low post is gone. So now the 6 feet , 6-3, 6-6, 6-9 and 7ft all shoot the same shot. All players are basically equal. No difference in skill set. Makes watching the game like playing 2K on rookie. Yeah you win. But after the first 5 minutes it’s predictable and requires no audience to watch.
NBA gave the Lakers 50% of the NBA television market. Their team is mediocre at shooting 3pt shots. Of course the Lakers will criticize teams like Boston & Golden State, who won championships behind the 3pt line
Aye JJ is a hypocrite! He was trashing the older players of the past on national TV and he was calling them plumbers in a demeaning way. Now he wants to point the finger at a lack of celebrating the game SMH.
People in the comments keep saying everybody friendly there are no more villains. But when Draymond do anything the fans cry and bitch about it. This soft ass generation and society is why the NFL is not the same and NBA not the same anymore
Bro that is spot on. If NOBODY shot 3’s and it was all defense, guess what?? These comment sections, media, etc. would be crying about that. Everybody thinks they know so much these days on just about every topic. Its the soft ass fans if you ask me
No. They won’t change. They don’t care. They just got paid. All of them. They don’t care. They don’t care. They don’t care. and They just got the 76 billion dollar TV deal. So … half of the viewership has gone… And it’s worse now than ever to watch.
whenever they say "more skilled" they are talking about only 2 things 1. shooting 3s (like dude said only a very slight increase in % makes since 1998... 2%) 2. carrying the ball aka dribbling... you can literally take photos IN REAL TIME of these cats putting their hands UNDER THE BALL MORE THAN ONCE while bringing it up the court... they are jokers bro ; nowhere NEAR the level of ball played by the greats of the 1980s-90s nowhere NEAR; just watch the all star games of those eras case closed
Adam Silver is on notice. I give him two years to fix the issues. Bring hand checking back, take away the defensive 3, stop with the soft flagrant fouls and soft ejections.
My biggest issue isn’t the 3 pt shooting , it’s the normalization of offensive moves that would be called a travel the previous decades. Players like Harden essentially hacked NBA reffing to draw fouls and also be able to always create separation for a shot. i.e. ‘gather step’ , euro step , step back 3s etc. there are plenty of examples on TH-cam of what is normal today was called a carry or travel from 2000s on back. What I watch today isn’t recognizable from what I grew up watching , and playing in the 90s and 2000s.
It is definitely NOT the fault of Inside the NBA. If anything, more people tune in to TNT because of them. It’s the product. People want to see stars, flash, defense, and action-not three point shooting contests, whining to the refs, no competitiveness, and load management.
For me biggest 2 problem are 1. refs fix games and its very obv, everyone see it. 2. half of the teams try to lose on purpose. What sport reward losing? yes, nba.
The problem boils down to is this generation of players it really wanting to compete so they take the easy way out with load management, shooting too many 3’s, no new rivalries, ruining the all star game ect it all boils down to not wanting to compete…!!!
NBA players are majority all spoiled and wealthy They could careless about competition and championships This entertainment game is all about one thing $$$$$$$
LeBalco is like senior citizen who won't retire so a more capable and younger person can benefit from that job. He's a slug. He destroyed the league the way he destroys his teams.
NBA has a JAMES PROBLEM!!! Been saying this for years. I use to say he's good for business, BAD FOR BASKETBALL but now in year 22 ( for absolutely no reason) he's terrible for the league and business now. That's why he went to the Lakers, to extend his shelf life bcuz why not go to the biggest, richest franchise. He dominates the media, pulse of the game, and viewership. All of these media companies, broadcasters, owners pandering towards him and are complicit to the downfall of viewership and the overall brand. He's nullified any chances of another star to carry the brand the next 20 years. It could have been Curry but James cnt let go of the rope and the league hasn't groomed another face of the league. James legacy tarnishes everyday and James life without the league is going to be a terrible transition and I'm sure Savannah is going to divorce him.
there’s only one way to truly make them change. stop buying league pass, don’t watch the regular season games since these players don’t talk it seriously, if you only watch games for the gambling and fantasy i suggest you stop because those are also making money off of you. just watch the youtube highlights if you honestly need to see celtics chuck threes every game
The Celtics shoot threes, but they also do midrange shots and layups. Also, they MAKE their threes and play defense. Most of these other teams are just chucking on threes and bricking them. It’s BORING.
as a Houston Rockets fan i can agree. I had a hard time watching my team for 4 seasons because they (the product) were bad, but once the team (the product) got better, it was an enjoyable to watch. it applies all around, no one wants to see forty two 3pt attempt, like wtf is going on out here
Back in the days NBA is like fast food choice, you have McDonald's, KFC, Taco Bell, Wendy's, subway many choices u can choose from. Nowadays, it's McDonald's from different suburb. Its essentially the same food and same menu, but one might taste better
Inside the NBA is a set of professional analysis analyzing the game from a professional view point that is very unique to a fan. But we agree and see what those hosts say. At 51 I grew up watching 80s and 90s basketball. What I see today is not the quality NBA I use to watch. It looks like college basketball and I am not a fan of college sports.
The other guys can't shine if all the Media does it discuss LeBron. That's what the Caller was saying . Talk about other Players so we can learn about them . This era of NBA is Trash. Period
One of the points I see the media missing on this NBA ratings thing is availability, why the NFL on any given Sunday you can watch 4 or 5 different games but you can’t catch an NBA game without having a cable subscription there is not continuous presence on TV all the time
Nba sucks. Only a handful of teams play good basketball. Other than that its just a 3 fest with no defense and bad offense! High scores arent so good all the time!
NBA ratings are down because the game is not very accessible to watch. Most people I know don't even have cable anymore. They're watching nothing but streaming services and TH-cam videos. The reason why 48% in the last 12 years all the NBA games you used to watch on national free channels. You used to be able to watch the NBA for free! I really think people miss that point of view. The product is still a good product. Team shooting a lot of threes is still entertaining. The game is not very accessible to watch it's that simple.
I’ll give a personal anecdote. I lived in Cleveland for work a few years back. I had a girl I really liked so wanted to impress her and take her to a game. Her favorite player was Curry so paid $4500 for good seats below one of the rims. Warriors had just had a great game against the Celtics night before. Find out an hour before the game that Steve Kerr sat Wiggins, Draymond, Klay, and Curry. B team went out there and still beat the Cavs. That’s a hustle where I come from. Root against the NBA since
Media also has a hand in NBA decline. The constant criticism of stars killed the joy for many fans. There is no sport where every small flaw in a player is exploded out of proportion. Even when they win and overcome you keep not picking and never give them their flowers. You have contributed in destroying the NBA with your hot takes.
The reason viewership is down is because of how soft the NBA rules have become . “They have legislated defense out of the game”to quote Steve Kerr. The players seem softer than previous players because they’re not allowed to play hard tough defense. Players are rewarded for flopping, and foul batting because the rules allow them to. People want to see competition! They want it to appear difficult to score, and it doesn’t! People may not want to see 73-68 but 120 points , 130 points is too much
@12:00 that's what's so HYPOCRITICAL about everyone from my era & earlier. You telling me it's BETTER for the league to have the same teams win rings or be in the finals almost every year, opposed to actual PARITY across the league? I been watching the nba since 1990 but if the league only has a couple teams that really win it every year, that mean the league is WEAK. Not having a top heavy league is more interesting cause it becomes more challenging & surprising when a team wins.
Most commentators are out of the game who use to call out bad calls by referees & teach the game while it’s going instead of silly stories. Van Gundy,Mark Jackson, etc.
The game became a bunch of overly political divas who run around forcing super teams and shooting nothing but three pointers while caring the most about their social media brand and sitting out games for load management. No thanks.
another aspect is the draft class, this years class Was horrendous. the top 3 picks aren't doing jack. no players who are transformative or even can thread the needle on their teams. next years class will save the league.
You can’t even watch local teams on local tv. They pay walled the sport. Everyone is friends and you don’t have rivalries. No one plays defense, players trying to make super teams, and load management. All reasons I don’t care about the NBA.
When players started telling teams who they wanted to play with and became unofficial agents/GMs, I quit watching. I could never imagine MJ, as powerful as he was, telling Jerry Krause or even Reinsdorf that he wasn't going to play with Rodman. He and Pippen literally hated Detroit players. Yet, he played with Rodman and even Salley. Not only that, but he was also willing to deal with Rodman's trips to Vegas during their three peat.
Gen X. I slowly stopped watching & going to games around the late 00s, a few years after the Spurs beat Pistons in the finals. Prior to that, I was a fanatic. By the early 2010s I only went two - three games tops, just watched games on TV. I completely stopped by 2015 & only watched the playoffs. The last 5 years, I basically only watched the finals and only if I was at a bar. Other than that, I’ve stopped watching full games, only highlights on YT. The game is boring now and none of the current young players are exciting enough for me to care. Pretty soon, the NBA will be like baseball for me, I’ll just stop watching completely. Football is all I watch. Every game counts and the players still want to play every game.
Okay. I am going to defend Coach Pop concerning the load management issue. When he started resting his 30+ year old players, it was because they had literally been playing together longer than anyone. TD, Manu, and TP has played in more PLAYOFF games than any other trio EVER. They had been playing over 100 games a year for over 15 years. Not only that, Tony and Manu also played summer FIBA league. Not only that, Coach Pop only rested his older big three. Every other player on the team played every game. STOP BLAMING POPOVICH because Embiid, Kawhi and Durant are injury prone and don't know how to keep their skinny butts in shape during the off season. At Forty years old, Tim Duncan still improved his team defensive score by over 15 points, while scoring double doubles.
It feels like since the inception of debate tv all shows talk about is Lebron centric games. In the 80s/90s you saw highlights of every gm on sportscenter and your local news. Now we get coverage of the Lakers and maybe Golden State. The media hadn’t done anything to build up this next generation of players. They decide who matters and all they’re telling us is Lebron is all that matters.
When LeBron left Cleveland the first time to form a super team down in Miami, we should have seen the writing on the wall that it was the beginning of the downturn for the NBA.
I actually blame the owners. They don't seem to want to give their coaches a chance to develop their coaching styles. Coaches like Pat Riley, Chuck Daly and Phil Jackson wouldn't have been given a decent shot at coaching. They were good coaches that had GMs and Owners that were willing to be patient. We have too many VCs and oligarchs who are only interested in making money now.

The crazy part is that most teams might have maybe 2 or 3 guys who shoot 40% from three but will have guys who aren't proficient at all taking these shots, and it's ugly to watch. I don't care what the analytics say, it's not smart basketball.
I remember when players like reggie Miller and ray allen were 3 point specialist
Now all players shoot them is a tragedy
1. lebron on steroids (allegedly)
2. lebron flopping
3. lying to our face saying bronny is great
4. no unique team identities
5. positionless basketball
6. no rivalries
7. team hopping
8. blatant traveling
9. load management
10. allstar weekend sucks
11. no defense
12. divas
13. no desire to win, just for huge contracts
14. horrible commentating
15. no plays, only threes and dunks
16. too many streaming services
17. horrible officiating
18. boring games
19. tired of hearing "lebrons the goat"
20. nba politicized
You just hating because that's your evil culture. The NBA problems is league wide not 1 player.
Never forget LeJay-Z hired this podcaster
Being Lebrons friend doesnt make you an NBA coach 😂
Get off Jay Z balls.
Reddick, one of the most good looking players I know, seems to have aged 10 years since coaching the Lakers.
The other thing is, shaq and chuck have earned respect from their games too. Not only are they honest, and comical, they know wtf they are talking about.
2 of the best points imo
- load management.
Suggestions:
- Get rid of load management, even if they have to reduce the games f4rom 82 to 70.
Nobody wants to watch a 3 point shooting contest…watched basketball for 30 years can’t do it anymore sorry 👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
No defence and jacking up 3s. Where's the real competition in that?
Maybe you’ll find it in a dictionary 😊… unless you are British
Made in England
it's like 10th graders playing pick up after school
It comes down to the rules
1. Bring back hand checking "perimeter defense"
2. Get rid of the Defensive 3 seconds in the key "interior defense"
3. Get rid of the 5 seconds back to the basket rule "offensive post moves"
Do this and ratings go right back up guarantee but NBA won't listen 👂🏿
eliminate the 3s from the corners; make the line extend from the top of the arc to the sidelines on each side
These nba players are to soft
They are having to much fun playing this way why ? Because guaranteed contracts
Feels like we are entering a dark age for the NBA
NBA inside views and ratings aren't declining for a reason... BECAUSE IT'S A GOOD PRODUCT AND ENTERTAINING! Why do you think they are an award winning program?? I would much rather catch highlights and analysis than watch 2 teams jack up 108 3s
Fans like competition and not Buddy Buddy basketball with no real defense getting played and players having free reign to score!
It's a combination of things.
1. To many teams not enough superstars
2. No one wants to be known as just a high flyer
3. Players sit out too many games
4. Everybody plays the same way
5) Aint party like a Diddy party - LeBron James
Yeah cause when you think of JJ Reddick you think of unbridled "positivity ", lol.
JJ....Just shut up and coach.
1. Get rid of the 2 ...4 step step back shots. It's traveling.
2. Suspend players for flopping.
Game fixed...
Corrections noted, game fixed,
Love it mann 👏🏾
Refs fix games and its obv thats the problem.
Its the soft ass fans if you ask me
And that's what you do to villains. Draymond doesn't just talk smack he tries to hurt people and that's not okay.
@themaker2149 compared to the 70s 80s 90 2000 draymond would just be in a long line of villains, now he's super villain
@@themaker2149 I guarantee your the type of man to play flag football than tackle
The NBA stopped being good the day after Kobe scored 60 in his last game.
IMO, Redick is ALWAYS full of it. But that’s just my opinion.
The NBA has been going down since Kobe retired back in 2016, and probably going back 10-years! RIP Kobe!
I blame the coaches...LeBron....and us the viewers. If we stop watching it....they will change
ahhhh, 48% of the viewers are gone, so they decided to make watching it WORSE = make this make sense, since you failed to do so the first time
No. They won’t change. They don’t care. They just got paid. All of them.
They don’t care. They don’t care.
They don’t care.
and
They just got the 76 billion dollar TV deal.
So … half of the viewership has gone…
And it’s worse now than ever to watch.
Blame Lebron for what?
Woulda never guessed the media would refute that claim 😂😂
People are tired of LeBron James. And although we hate to admit it, Curry is anti competition too
whenever they say "more skilled" they are talking about only 2 things
1. shooting 3s (like dude said only a very slight increase in % makes since 1998... 2%)
2. carrying the ball aka dribbling... you can literally take photos IN REAL TIME of these cats putting their hands UNDER THE BALL MORE THAN ONCE while bringing it up the court... they are jokers bro ; nowhere NEAR the level of ball played by the greats of the 1980s-90s
nowhere NEAR; just watch the all star games of those eras
case closed
Playoffs are too deep and long!!
NO PLAY INS!
Round 1: Best of 3
Round 2: Best of 5
Conference and Finals: Best of 7
Absolutely n0t Silver jR.
I can’t believe I live in a world where the WNBA is a better product than the NBA! Smh ….
which shows just how soft and UNSKILLED this era is
NBA has become WNBA entertainment
Both unwatchable
"dudes are coming in the league.... same haircuts, bubblin around" LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOO
It is definitely NOT the fault of Inside the NBA. If anything, more people tune in to TNT because of them. It’s the product. People want to see stars, flash, defense, and action-not three point shooting contests, whining to the refs, no competitiveness, and load management.
You can’t even watch most games unless you pay for league pass or just watch your local team which isn’t even easy to watch these days.
For me biggest 2 problem are
1. refs fix games and its very obv, everyone see it.
2. half of the teams try to lose on purpose. What sport reward losing? yes, nba.
The problem boils down to is this generation of players it really wanting to compete so they take the easy way out with load management, shooting too many 3’s, no new rivalries, ruining the all star game ect it all boils down to not wanting to compete…!!!
NBA players are majority all spoiled and wealthy
They could careless about competition and championships
This entertainment game is all about one thing $$$$$$$
need to change the rules in the paint is full contact
Lmfao I always say the same thing. Dudes have the same haircut and same game.
The same weird “fade fro”. They all look like Marquise Chriss… lol Or Jalen Jeffries. Or they have weird dukie braids. And lack mid-range skill.
😂😂😂😂
this is what happens when the nba and media cater only for big market teams
BOTH CAN BE RIGHT ✅️ J.J. has a point 👉 also, the League has changed
there’s only one way to truly make them change. stop buying league pass, don’t watch the regular season games since these players don’t talk it seriously, if you only watch games for the gambling and fantasy i suggest you stop because those are also making money off of you. just watch the youtube highlights if you honestly need to see celtics chuck threes every game
Many mistaked by the league (Play-In), allowing load management and the players (feeling entitled, tsking this as a hobby, see All Star Game)
The Celtics shoot threes, but they also do midrange shots and layups. Also, they MAKE their threes and play defense. Most of these other teams are just chucking on threes and bricking them. It’s BORING.
JJ has a point.
Media isn’t the sole reason but it’s 100% a factor.
Bron play for 1 team. how can he get that much blame 🤦🏾♂️
as a Houston Rockets fan i can agree.
Rob's co-host on this topic is out of touch. Don't ever let him get into a place of power where he can't start making decisions.
Period
LeBron brings ratings nobody else brings ratings like him. It’s all about money
You know one move that fans have no idea what they’re talking about?
The step back.
Root against the NBA since
JJ’s full take was actually really good
Turn Kelvin mic down, him and Rob should match volume pitch
Media also has a hand in NBA decline. The constant criticism of stars killed the joy for many fans. There is no sport where every small flaw in a player is exploded out of proportion. Even when they win and overcome you keep not picking and never give them their flowers. You have contributed in destroying the NBA with your hot takes.
The reason viewership is down is because of how soft the NBA rules have become
People may not want to see 73-68 but 120 points , 130 points is too much
Reddick is the only one who can say he's a player, media member, fan and coach. He is more than entitled to say that and he isn't entirely wrong.
Doesn’t matter how many critics lie that a restaurant is good. We all know when the food tastes like crap
It's because the nba is racist and woke.
So JJ is basically calling the viewers stupid. This dude is something else man. It’s so hard to like him.
The game became a bunch of overly political divas who run around forcing super teams and shooting nothing but three pointers while caring the most about their social media brand and sitting out games for load management. No thanks.
The NBA just signed a nearly $80 billion tv deal. The league is in good shape regardless of what these idiots say
another aspect is the draft class, this years class Was horrendous. the top 3 picks aren't doing jack. no players who are transformative or even can thread the needle on their teams.
next years class will save the league.
The current NBA is just like the Multiverse of Madness. Each team is just a variation of the same character..
Stop it. Pop started resting players in the 1999 - 2000 season. There's a reason they never won back to back championships.
Horrible inconsistency in officiating superstars get preferential treatment
It feels like since the inception of debate tv all shows talk about is Lebron centric games. In the 80s/90s you saw highlights of every gm on sportscenter and your local news. Now we get coverage of the Lakers and maybe Golden State. The media hadn’t done anything to build up this next generation of players. They decide who matters and all they’re telling us is Lebron is all that matters.
When LeBron left Cleveland the first time to form a super team down in Miami, we should have seen the writing on the wall that it was the beginning of the downturn for the NBA.
GayJ Reddick lol
Got em
I'm getting tired of V'JJ Reddick's opinions.
3 pts, load management and hating half the USA
I actually blame the owners. They don't seem to want to give their coaches a chance to develop their coaching styles. Coaches like Pat Riley, Chuck Daly and Phil Jackson wouldn't have been given a decent shot at coaching. They were good coaches that had GMs and Owners that were willing to be patient. We have too many VCs and oligarchs who are only interested in making money now.
