Thanks for this video, I love these little pens 👍
They're all very hard to find on Amazon Australia, so I've been carrying those little red Bookies pemcils.
I've also been buying those $3 Swiss card knockoffs. The pen from them is so tiny it fits under the saw or blade in Leatherman Wave, Charge, Surge etc. 2mm x 1mm magnets hold it in place👍
FYI, your midnight manager link shows the spyderco grasshopper page....🤪

I am tempted to get one of the swisscard knock-offs - just to see if I would carry the card. The Victorinox ones are expensive.
Changed the link and in the other video where I copied it from th-cam.com/video/mAa8dm5L_yc/w-d-xo.html Thanks again for spotting it and commenting!!!!

@@MB_EDC I've bought about 20 Swiss card clones to give away to friends. They're generally servicable, but some are factory seconds...
All were $2-$3 inc shipping. ..

Those are some great options. Very tiny. Since the pandemic 😷 I always have a pen on me for signatures. Another great video!

Thank you! These are all budget options. I might try some other versions later. I am working towards a pocket pen and notebook carry. Just received the notebooks to try out and review. So hopefully I'll get a video out on that in a couple of weeks.

The olight one is a good size, has proprietary refill but I managed to shorten a parker jotter refil and carved the plastic part to look like the original and it works great!
Got it in purple and took a turquoise glow in the dark duct tape, wrapped around the refil and it glows nicely through the holes!

That is a great idea! I use s Parker Jotter for work everyday where it fits in the spiral bound done of my A5 notebook perfectly. I am looking to carry a smaller notebook add have been trying a few out. Video for ina few weeks.

Great thorough video, those zebra pens are brilliant , I enjoy carrying a kaweco sport because you can remove the cap and use it to extend the handle. I think you should try the Zebra F-301 if you have not, very affordable too

      @MB_EDC  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks Elan. I plan to do a follow up later with some other options. Maybe with some fountain pens like the Kaweco. I have always been a Parker-fan. Not tried the zebra pens until recently. They do write well.

I have a Zebra F-xMD (I think it's a new version of the F-701). It is a really well made pen for the price and writes very well, but it will live on my desk. It's just a bit too hefty for EDC IMO, weighing in at 46g, so I need to look for something lighter and I learned my lesson. Some nice options shown in this vid 👍

The Magin mini ballpoint seems to be manufactured by and named Chinco.

Good point. I think it has different names in different countries. It was Magin in the UK but there were several listing of the same own under different names!!

I’m in this exact pen rabbit hole dilemma ..here’s what I’m going to go with (for whoever else ends up here like me)…

TLDR: its the Schmidt 8126Mini Capless Rollerball refills, your choice black or blue (Olight rebranded these Schmidts to upsell it with their name on it which is why it’s an “exact match” for the expensive Olight refills) and you just put these widely available beauties inside that goldilocks sized O’Pen Mini once the included insert runs dry..just rinse and repeat with the Schmidts after that. cheaper AND more widely available (amazon /jet pens / office supply stores et cetera)

If you want to cary an “EDC” pen in the most comfortable way then it would be front pocket carry..preferably with a pouch wallet that can hold your cards, bills, and other similarly useful sized items, like a thin multi tool or light of your choice…reason for front pocket cary is there’s no future back issues from sitting on your wallet..theres no nerdy tool belt holsters..and you can use the front wallet/tool pouch in the most outfit scenarios as possible..i.e. with your slacks, jeans, or all the way down to gym shorts in summer..this all in all will maximize your usability potential..the goal of carrying anything “EDC” in the first place..not just more pocket clutter that you end up wanting to leave it in your drop-bin at home.

furthermore.. you’re looking for one that is as smallishly compact as you can go…while keeping the length and thickness at that happy medium balanced level for writability and pouch “fitmentability”.. while remaining as budget and as long-lastingly durable as possible (so ideally stainless, aluminum ok too) and with widely available refills for future proofing your setup..(as you nicely laid out well in this video)..meaning no proprietaries, looking at you O-light!!!

Fisherspace pen is great..write quality sucks to write everyday with so its better for backup emergency.

Zebra 4701 + an extremely widely available Uni Power Tank Refill in 1.0mm is near perfect because it all metal, pressurized oil-based refill (exactly like the fisher space pen).. but it actually puts thick usable ink on paper without skipping! so it’s both a joy to use every day and can double as the emergency use cases highly regarded in the emergency rescue community et cetera…and all for ~ 15$.

so now it can outclass the Fisher Space Pen..accept for one minor quality that is..and that is it’s size. - It’s still a normal length office pen after all.. so it stays on the desk.

So finally, the O’light mini with the Schmidt 8126Mini Capless rollerball refills - It nails that form factor, is around 10-13$ depending on sales..can still be used in most outdoor conditions dispute not being "pressurized"..because it’s a rollerball and not a gel pen. well reviewed and praised ink from a good company CHECK. that isn’t proprietary CHECK and will stay widely available now till the future CHECK. good to go. off to bed

Wow! That was quite an information download!! Thanks for the info…It will take me a while to unpack it. I’ll go back and checkout your recommendations. Currently I still use the Parker Jotter stainless steel as my main desk/work pen. Out and about I use the Zebra mini. Mainly because it easily fits in a wallet or notebook case. And the Zebra expandz. A bit heavy but nice to write with.

yeah both are superb choices i definitely concur with that. Heres a video I just found that is really interesting
      th-cam.com/video/eO2RZ-rO4WI/w-d-xo.html
looks like a 5 second job to slightly widen the tip allows that compact zebra to accept fisher space refills! no wobble
now that i think about it I"m going to say the zebra is gonna beat the olight now. You're right on track. and you can even add the very venerable PR4 (Fisher Ink Black Cartridge) to another zebra as a "set it and forget" it back up option for something that will write AND remain in less than adverse conditions if potentially needed. seeing a lot of people report the the PR4 to balance even better writability on many different less than ideal surface reliably while lasting much longer than the Bold. I'm seeing a lot of reports of 30 year old fisher pens still writing after being stored away. looks like that infused pressurized nitrogen really works for years on end!
      Pretty cool!! cheers mate
