In our office, there is a leak in a tap. There is not a single person who l bring it to the notice of the concerned department to ensure its rectified at the earliest. As I am the only person who is bringing it to the notice of that department, they are ignoring it & water is being wasted continuously. I think this type of issue is there in most of the places. Whats happened is happened. What appalls me is the attitude of the government now, at this situation. They are not talking about solutions. Imposing fines on the usage of drinking water to wash cars etc. isn't enough.
No matter what measures the govt manage to execute this year, think of all the apartments, malls and tech campuses currently being built all over Bangalore now. Once people start living in these, the amount of water that will be extracted from Cauvery and borewells will lead to an even worse situation by the same time next year. It's incredible that permissions are still being granted for all this construction. With AI and recession eating up IT jobs, one can expect a significant reduction in the workforce, and also a significant shrinking in pay packages for the workers that remain. Businesses already grappling with traffic issues now also have to deal with employees demanding WFH because of water issues. How long before they decide to cut their losses set up base elsewhere? If you thought lakes drying up was bad, wait till the IT money dries up! That's when the real crisis will hit!

I lived in Hosapete in Karnataka. When I use to visit Bangalore in 2012 it felt amazing. The weather was beautiful. Summer don’t seem like summer unlike in Hospaete where the temperature rises upto 40. Now I’m living in Bangalore and in 2024 I can’t believe that this is Bangalore. It’s damn hot here. Would request the government to please rejuvenate the lakes and the green area too

if you shift industries to far ends of bangalore or different cities, for example Kanakapura or Hubli being the next IT hub - with Bangalore traffic it makes impossible to travel daily, unless people sell their houses in Bangalore and buy or rent there. avoid adding more apartment complex, restore lakes and resolve cauvery water crisis with other states, what we have and need v/s what we can give

Delhi and Bangalore are both successful cities in terms of agglomeration economies. It also implies unchecked migration and growth of these cities. However there is a threshold of how much population a city can handle, this implies there must be growth of allied cities in the region around these agglomerations. They will grow fast and take pressure off these larger agglomerations.
Rainwater harvesting by individuals in their homes and apartments and side drains and STPs by government while saving lakes and rivers plus i have done rainwater harvesting from past 12 years and I have no issues plus our area vibhuthipura lake is in good condition

Gentleman, As we know, Bengaluru is the richest city in India, why dont we think of Desalination plants. We could run pipelines to bring seawater from Mangalore same like we have pipelines to bring kavery water from Mysore. We have great relations with Middle eastern countries ( UAE, Saudi, etc) where population survives only on desalination plants. We can have JV’s with gulf countries to develop desalination plants to cater Bengaluru where there are no rivers. ( only rain water harvesting). I have a humble suggestion. BWSSB should fix a maximum quantity of consumption of water per house. Next highly penalise the people who have not followed the rules regarding rain harvesting. Some people have resorted to cosmetic arrangements for rain harvesting.

Storm water channels spoiled. Lakes/tanks are dried and allowed to build apartments. Everywhere concrete/tiles footpaths, leaving no space to flow rain water into earth, thereby ground water shortage. Administrators, builders,spoiled the water resources.
Those were the days when Gmail... Yahoo etc were not there...and we were using the net address for emails... Sri SM Krishna was CM then... I wrote to him to incorporate Ring Main all along Ring Road.... which could definitely help in distribution of water on either side up to seven to eight kms... He appreciated the proposal ...but it didn't happen... BWSSB would have benefited hugely in proper distribution of water and in reducing leakages

I hope the govt has the sense to listen to Dr. Ramachandra. I'm from Delhi but I sympathize with Bangaloreans. What happened to 'Smart cities '?? Decrease population pressure by building and shifting economic activity in other cities, decrease the population pressure in Delhi and Bangalore.
Whats happened is happened. What appalls me is the attitude of the government now, at this situation. They are not talking about solutions. Imposing fines on the usage of drinking water to wash cars etc. isn't enough.
No matter what measures the govt manage to execute this year, think of all the apartments, malls and tech campuses currently being built all over Bangalore now. Once people start living in these, the amount of water that will be extracted from Cauvery and borewells will lead to an even worse situation by the same time next year. It's incredible that permissions are still being granted for all this construction.
With AI and recession eating up IT jobs, one can expect a significant reduction in the workforce, and also a significant shrinking in pay packages for the workers that remain. Businesses already grappling with traffic issues now also have to deal with employees demanding WFH because of water issues. How long before they decide to cut their losses set up base elsewhere?
If you thought lakes drying up was bad, wait till the IT money dries up! That's when the real crisis will hit!
Actually that would solve the problem.. It's the over crowding that's creating the problem.. Along with destruction of lakes and nature. Let the money go m. Be poor but atleast there won't be traffic and pollution anymore. Bengaluru wasn't built for this purpose at all.. Maybe wherever they shift has some amt of fore thinking and won't experience the same nonsense

I understand your POV, but who will take the call of who gets to live in the city and who doesn't. When your entire life is dependent on being able to earn a certain amount of money to sustain a lifestyle you aspire to for yourself, for your family and children - will anyone be willing to let it go for their family so someone else can live in the cities ? if we all stop earning what happens to taxes ? GDP ? what will become of the country. No easy answers here, and the IT demise is likely to happen within this generation itself. Feels like we are headed for doomsday.
@@anudeepmayura11 Overcrowding is not a problem, it's a symptom. The underlying problem is greed. All of this was allowed to happen unchecked over decades. Suddenly if the crowds reduce, it's not going to solve anything, the damage has been done.
I lived in Hosapete in Karnataka. When I use to visit Bangalore in 2012 it felt amazing. The weather was beautiful. Summer don’t seem like summer unlike in Hospaete where the temperature rises upto 40. Now I’m living in Bangalore and in 2024 I can’t believe that this is Bangalore. It’s damn hot here. Would request the government to please rejuvenate the lakes and the green area too
Local citizens who own individual houses are also responsible for this situation by not taking rain water harvesting and borewell recharge seriously. I hope with the points mentioned by Sir, people awaken, become civilized and act seriously.

Solutions Known..... But Not Followed..... Lack of implementation is our biggest problem today. We have reports after reports, advisories after advisories, but without timebound implemention.... all are just words. People of Bengaluru are equally responsible like the bureaucrats and the government (irrespective of any party) in creating this monster. Town planning is a joke in India, which state has a structured town planning ministry. Killing of lakes, ponds, rivers, mangroves has become our national hobby in the sake of greed for more. Maybe employers need to compulsorily provide 20 sq. metres per head for every non local person employed in a place.

if you shift industries to far ends of bangalore or different cities, for example Kanakapura or Hubli being the next IT hub - with Bangalore traffic it makes impossible to travel daily, unless people sell their houses in Bangalore and buy or rent there. avoid adding more apartment complex, restore lakes and resolve cauvery water crisis with other states, what we have and need v/s what we can give
That is not possible they will do any development now only freebies.

Delhi and Bangalore are both successful cities in terms of agglomeration economies. It also implies unchecked migration and growth of these cities. However there is a threshold of how much population a city can handle, this implies there must be growth of allied cities in the region around these agglomerations. They will grow fast and take pressure off these larger agglomerations.

Rainwater harvesting by individuals in their homes and apartments and side drains and STPs by government while saving lakes and rivers plus i have done rainwater harvesting from past 12 years and I have no issues plus our area vibhuthipura lake is in good condition

As we know, Bengaluru is the richest city in India, why dont we think of Desalination plants. We could run pipelines to bring seawater from Mangalore same like we have pipelines to bring kavery water from Mysore.
We have great relations with Middle eastern countries ( UAE, Saudi, etc) where population survives only on desalination plants. We can have JV’s with gulf countries to develop desalination plants to cater Bengaluru where there are no rivers. ( only rain water harvesting).
Gentleman let us not have blame culture , rather provide the ideas and support each other.

I have a humble suggestion. BWSSB should fix a maximum quantity of consumption of water per house. Next highly penalise the people who have not followed the rules regarding rain harvesting. Some people have resorted to cosmetic arrangements for rain harvesting.

Storm water channels spoiled. Lakes/tanks are dried and allowed to build apartments. Everywhere concrete/tiles footpaths, leaving no space to flow rain water into earth, thereby ground water shortage. Administrators, builders,spoiled the water resources.
