I think the 799,000 Marinas were either used as Braziers or had been damaged by raining Pianos after all it does rain Pianos at The Top Gear Test Track!!!
As someone that restores lots of old cars can I point out that a car from the 70s that rusts is not specific to a make or model - everything from that era and before rusts badly.
8:00: "It's a front-wheel drive car..." : Ummm...., no it isn't. If you don't believe me, just look at the undercarriage of on (like at approx. 8:05 on this video..) and notice it has a driveshaft and a rear axle.
My dad had a mid-70’s MGB. He would point out all over Dallas, Texas where he lost his driveshaft, where the floor pan fell out (taking his briefcase with it), where the roof ripped off on the freeway after the last clip failed and where a fire started under the dashboard… He only had it for 3 years, and he had bought it new. (!) I will admire British cars from a distance, as I’m afraid the thrill of owning one, would be counterbalanced by the financial drain keeping it running (and more concerning, “intact”). Anytime I see an old British car on the road, I make an effort to get their attention and give them a thumbs up, or an “OK” gesture. It makes them smile. They deserve the appreciation, not for pity, but for admiration.
I had two of Reliant's forerunners to the Robin, the good old Reliant Regal Saloon back in the mid '80's and yes you had to be careful driving them but they were a hell of a lot of fun.
The Tr7 was great except for the gear boxes. They trashed easily. We raced the crap out of them in the scca. We didn't keep them stock. You can make them scream.
My uncle owned Reliant 3-wheelers from the 1960's right up to 2010 - the Regal, Reliant and Rialto. Never known it to tip once. It's now common knowledge that the Robin used by the Top Gear juveniles was deliberately rigged to tip!
I don't like Morris Marinas, and I love Clarkson's Top Gear, but seeing them senselessly destroying them makes me angry. Those cars that got the pianos were well-restored with pain staking effort and were their previous owners' pride and joy! This is just straight up bullying of Marina lovers. The worst part is that Clarkson, Richard and James never really gave a proper explanation of why the Marina is bad, or why they hated it.
God how I love Richard, James & Jeremy❤ The original 3, may they safely continue TOP GEAR GRAND TOUR for years to come. They are hilarious!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Some of these are a bit of a bad call. Jaguar Mk 1 3.4? Wasn't any less safe than any equivalent car of the time (and in the hands of a regular driver was practically heavenly compared to something like a Merc 300SL). Victor F-Type? Not really that more prone to rust than anything of the time. A much better entry on this list than either of those would've been the Mk5 Escort, which was below the class standard even when it launched, let alone when its updated rivals hit the market.
I failed my first test in my mum's 2nd/3rd hand Austin Aggro because the Bloody thing kept stalling and the examiner refused to continue the test. It was a Bag of SH** !!
@@hopkin2006 The Marina Owners Club DID send in angry letters so the trio were apprehensive to damage any when one was the backup car in a challenge. James ended up using it and it survived just fine. Then they dropped a piano on it anyway.
Ever owned a mk3 cavalier? The steering rack rubs on the high pressure fuel line, which then sprays petrol all over the exhaust manifold! Much worse than the scimitar!😮
What about the AC Invacar ?.... far worse than the Reliant Robin So bad when Government mobility schemes ended leasing them out they where all returned and destroyed...And not one mention of the Triumph(Watch the Temperature Gauge)Stag.! .... And just to prove Uncle Henry never got everything right the Ford 315 Classic.. too over engineered and expensive to build despite looking glamourous Its oversized Anglia styling didn't find it many friends and it was way to expensive for them to build... so only after 2 years it was gone replaced by the much better received Cortina...
If i had to defend one of these cars its the Jaguar mark 1 good looking car and i don't know why its on this list! The rest of these cars deserves what there ended up as! And why Britain doesn't have a car industry anymore apart from foreign owned! Late 90s Rover minis are my favorite and the best!
Austin Aleggro..that's the Vandan Plas version..and the MGC was by the British Motor Corparation, not Company. If you want to make these short films, do 'em properly.
Perhaps for a change you should look at other countries and point out the reality of how crap a lot German, Japanese etc cars are I'm done with the channel
I think the 799,000 Marinas were either used as Braziers or had been damaged by raining Pianos after all it does rain Pianos at The Top Gear Test Track!!!
Or scrapped to be made into better cars.
I think ordinary rain took it's toll on most of them- they just seemed to rust away before your very eyes...
In france its the bad company piano avion
Ah yes, Careless Air 😂
7:57 - The Reliant Robin is front-wheel drive? I don’t think so!
As someone that restores lots of old cars can I point out that a car from the 70s that rusts is not specific to a make or model - everything from that era and before rusts badly.
I would defend the Robin, not only were they everything they were meant to be but also they are iconic…eg Only Fools and Horses.
Indeed…..Only fools would appreciate a Robin .
Iconic for being shit…..simple really.

They should have included the Leyland Metro! That car starts rusting the moment it came off the assembly line!
I've never driven an Allegro or a Marina, but according to owners I've met they weren't much worse than the typical Ford Cortina of the time.
I had two of Reliant's forerunners to the Robin, the good old Reliant Regal Saloon back in the mid '80's and yes you had to be careful driving them but they were a hell of a lot of fun.
I know we didn’t know better, but I enjoyed my Marina for ages and never gave me any problems. It was the twin carb engine model and sounded great!
I had a 1.8 Super and had no problems with it at all. Very reliable and cheap to run.
The Tr7 was great except for the gear boxes. They trashed easily. We raced the crap out of them in the scca. We didn't keep them stock. You can make them scream.
You're showing a Reliant Robin with a Starsky and Hutch stripe. 😆
Great video!
Morris Marina and grand pianos (and James May's Fiat Panda) allways end in disaster
Well, the Robin *did* set an altitude record once it had rockets attached
I’m actually a huge fan of the reliant robin and for the time it was amazing but i think the design is now rather outdated
My uncle owned Reliant 3-wheelers from the 1960's right up to 2010 - the Regal, Reliant and Rialto. Never known it to tip once. It's now common knowledge that the Robin used by the Top Gear juveniles was deliberately rigged to tip!
You forgot to mention that Princess Anne owned a Reliant Scimitar..... Its the law

I agree. That's the one part of Top Gear I didn't like. TH-camr HubNut drove a Marina on his channel and he talked about this.
I knew when my dad was coming home because you could hear the allegro's diff whine
God how I love Richard, James & Jeremy❤ The original 3, may they safely continue TOP GEAR GRAND TOUR for years to come. They are hilarious!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The final two episodes of The Grand Tour will be released next year. Sadly no more after that.

6:45 let’s be honest, it wasn’t the factory floor guys who would have been cutting corners.
No! They were too busy striking!😂
The Jaguar Mk 1's licence plate saying "BUY 1" accompanied by the display of it being very ass-happy serves as poor advertisement.
It was the A frame breaking on the Robin that put it on it's side. They are not like the 'Top Gear' one made to go on it's side.
As indeed mentioned in the video.
The Leyland P7E didn't get a mention.
I'd love to have a Reliant to crash on my days off, just for the laughs 🤣
Reliant Robins remind me of Mr. Bean lol
My mum had an Austin Elegro 😅
Also a Maxi but I don't know which company made that car and it was dark purple 💜 hahahaha
Peter Welch lives in England and loves BMW's
I won't stand any scimitar slander. Yes they did set on fire occasionally, but reliant solved the problem in the later models.
British Leyland...says it all...fail of a car manufacturer, so sad.
Of course the Reliant Robin is awful. Even Mr. Bean hated it.
Mr Bean’s vehicular nemesis was a Reliant REGAL.
I failed my first test in my mum's 2nd/3rd hand Austin Aggro because the Bloody thing kept stalling and the examiner refused to continue the test. It was a Bag of SH** !!
I wonder if Careless Airlines are still dropping pianos onto Morris Marinas
Just see British Leyland
The Reliant Robin, enemy of Mr Bean
Wrong 3 wheeled vehicle
Why has top gear got no end date ? Its been axed
The British unleashed the underwhelming Leyland P76 on Australia and New Zealand
Even if the Delorean was fully made in Northern Ireland, you'd be chased out for including it because N.Ireland isn't British
Was wondering if they'd show a piano being dropped on the Morris Marina
They did 😁
That's not funny at all. The former owners of the Marinas destroyed are probably angry or upset.
@@hopkin2006 The Marina Owners Club DID send in angry letters so the trio were apprehensive to damage any when one was the backup car in a challenge.
James ended up using it and it survived just fine.
Then they dropped a piano on it anyway.
The irony that the 2 worst British cars ever were both made by a company called "Reliant" was not lost on me.
Ever owned a mk3 cavalier? The steering rack rubs on the high pressure fuel line, which then sprays petrol all over the exhaust manifold! Much worse than the scimitar!😮
Most of these are sort after now, so bad they're now cool
Mr Bean better not see you in a Robin. Your done for.
Where are the Peel P50 and Peel Trident 😂
When Jeremy Clarkson rolled the reliant, apparently that was staged for the show.
The Reliant Robin was sabotaged before making all the stunts. It wasn’t such a bad cat, but a braindead journalist - as in all his programs😂😂😂
I had a TR7 and it was awesome… that car was fun as fuck… I miss it
mr bean car is the best car of the world
What about the AC Invacar ?.... far worse than the Reliant Robin So bad when Government mobility schemes ended leasing them out they where all returned and destroyed...And not one mention of the Triumph(Watch the Temperature Gauge)Stag.! .... I had Secondhand Marina and Allegro
The Allegro was more hassle of the 2
Zevonhand? Sounds like a character from a TV sci-fi series!
@AtheistOrphan corrected thank you
Zevonhand 🤣
Yeah. Most of them are pretty terrible.
However, could we do a best British cars?
We could ….if there was such a thing…?
If i had to defend one of these cars its the Jaguar mark 1 good looking car and i don't know why its on this list!
The rest of these cars deserves what there ended up as! And why Britain doesn't have a car industry anymore apart from foreign owned!

How many Marinas were on the road before Top Gear?😂
Austin Aleggro..that's the Vandan Plas version..and the MGC was by the British Motor Corparation, not Company.
If you want to make these short films, do 'em properly.
They can’t all be Aston Martins
Bentleys
Rolls Royces
Fords
Japanese cars are the best!
I have one and love it.
The only thing that works in my old 1994 RR Corniche Series IV is the radio because it’s Japanese.
OK I like mojo but this absolute bollocks
Perhaps for a change you should look at other countries and point out the reality of how crap a lot German, Japanese etc cars are I'm done with the channel
This is a channel that's focused on British stuff, ya nob
You may wish to take a look at the name of the channel.
