    Wow... I just made a full circle skirt and was a bit disappointed with the fullness of it and I did not know about a double circle skirt. I thought the only way to add more fullness was to pleat it. Thank you so much!

    Thank you for this! So far you're the only person that I've seen who used proper math equations for the measurements. It made so much more sense to see C=2(pi)r and to scale up or scale down that way. Not gonna lie, using math from school made this pretty satisfying since now it's an applicable situation versus a quiz problem wanting you to figure out the circumference of a random boy's walking path going somewhere for no reason LOL.
    I'm definitely going to be making the double circle skirt!

    Thank you for your attention to the wisest use of fabric. Traditional pattern fabric layouts waste so much! While of course you want to keep your grain lines up and down, the layouts they show assume that you're working with a one directional PRINT on that fabric (which is relatively rare), so they keep everything aligned to an unnecessary "up" and "down." They also lay out to the largest size on the pattern, so if you're a size 8 with an 8-14 size pattern, their layout has you wasting a huge amount of cloth!

  • @mycozygardencottage
    @mycozygardencottage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your explanation of the fabric layout and the math were incredibly helpful! I've watched so many videos that left me so confused when I knew that it was likely a case of people making things so much more complicated than necessary. You proved it! You're a good teacher!

    • @ShilynSews
      @ShilynSews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh thank you so much! It's definitely not complicated. When you feel ready, you can also mix it up by making a larger circle skirt to gather or pleat! It makes for REALLY full skirts without having as much material.

    Hello! Ive seen soo many videos of how to make doublecircle skirt
    What I want to know is how to make a double circle skirt on long skirt like waist to floor?

    • @ShilynSews
      @ShilynSews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The measurements will be the same, but I'm guessing your issue is the width of the fabric isn't enough to cut out 2 circles. You may end up needing 4 total panels cut like a half circle.
      Remember the part in the video about cutting a full circle skirt like 2 halves (using the radius of a full circle) just to get the length? You're doing the same thing for a double circle skirt, but you'll end up with 4 half circle panels, using that double circle measurement. (And don't forget to add seam allowance!)
      I really hope this makes sense! If not, feel free to DM on IG or email me, I can do a quick drawing.

    • @ShilynSews

      It depends on what type of skirt you want and how much fabric the oversized dress has... I would make the pattern for the skirt you are making first, and see if you have enough material with the oversized dress. If there's enough, you can take it apart to cut and sew! If there's not enough but you like the fabric, you can piece it together (2, 3,4 pieces or add a panel, etc) to make it
