@@bobfty2680 Well Belle delphine is more of a genius. A source of disappointment for those who have an unhealthy addiction probably but lets be real she has played a good amount of game and has been successful for herself. Wouldn't really say the same for some of her "supporters"
Delphine is the equivalent of that kid in school that thinks they're so much smarter than everyone and tries to be the "group leader" in projects. Then proceeds to get everything wrong, and also throws a tantrum when someone wants to do the project the right way.
I still maintain as group leader the project was on course until I was booted out of team for destroying it due to interference by people far less intelligent than me.
Yeah, if it was a quest about doing feats like that good one at the Thalmor Embassy I would join, but why the fk kill Paarturnax? There are so many elves to kill instead!
@@OmegaChip mmhh... as much as I like deportive hunt of Thalmor once or twice a year, I must agree. You are right. Idk why but my sympathy resonates even stronger with the Thalmor than the blades, and I am about to do another hunt.
No, incompetent characters =/= Incompetent writer. Delphine is written to be incompetent and selfish from the very start. She doesn't care for the Dragonborn. Hell she probably doesn't even care for the blades, she just wants power. If she can make the Dragonborn slay Parthuurnax, what greater show of power is there? She's written in a similar manner to Astrid from the Dark Brotherhood. Only exception is that Astrid had the whole world crash down on her, Delphine didn't.
The virgin Delphine: Took the horn of Jurgen Windcaller. Thinks she can command the dragonborn. Despised by literally everyone. Wears peasant clothes and leather armor. Gives the blades a bad name. Is a complete bitch. Worse than Nazeem. The mighty Chad Paarthurnax: Is now peaceful. Helps the dragonborn defeat Alduin. Overcame evil by great effort. Loved by everyone. Wise and intelligent. Voiced by Mario. Partysnax.
I was mildly interested in joining the Blades, but there was no way I was gonna betray the one who trained me to use the voice. That would be a sith move. I believe in redemption even for dragons.
Also, even in the event the dragon DID turn on you and the Blades...you took down Alduin of all things, you could take down this dragon too if it came to it 🙈
@@gRinchY-op5vr paarthurnax is far more intelligent than alduin and infinitely more dangerous as he is capable of commanding respect from all races and deceiving everyone into thinking he isnt a malevolent being
I personally think that there should be an option to evict the Blades from Sky Haven Temple. "Kill Paarthurnax." "I'd rather not" "Then we can not give you aid." "A shame, but can I assume you also would not accept my aid?" "That is correct Dragonborn." "Very well, I'm sorry to see you and Delphine go but I wish you well." "Pardon?" "Sky Haven Temple is mine. My blood opened it and it related to my destiny. You and Delphine used me and I was fine with that as we had mutual goals, but since you are buring this bridge, I have no choice but to ask you to leave." "But this Temple is ours by right!" "Esburn, do you and Delphine think you can take it from me?" ". . . . I'll get my coat."
Of course they would think they can take you, because every NPC in this game thinks fighting someone decked out in the bones of the dragons they've slain is a good idea.
She seriously think she above a person who literally destiny is to stop a dragon that can literally devour the whole world including the all deadra for it to be resetted again
@Age Restrictions agreed they deserve to be killed, however I wish the developers could've allowed you to kill the ideal masters and free the trapped souls in the cairn and then give that plain of Oblivion to a Daedra of your choice as an expansion to their realm and in exchange that Daedra gives you some special perk/power/active effect of some kind
No matter what your views on the Dawnguard, the Volkihar Vampires, Thieves Guild or the Dark Brotherhood are, we can all agree that the Blades are a Joke as a faction
I really enjoy the Dark Brotherhood storyline in this game. Killing the emperor is great fun. Plus they're the only faction that actually treats you differently once you become the leader.

And also even though the Dark Brotherhood is ya know evil and stuff, they're still respected
What makes even less sense about Delphine's suspicion of the Thalmor is that she herself... *LITERALLY SAW ALDUIN RAISE A DRAGON BACK TO LIFE* She was there! She was with you at Kynesgrove! She saw exactly what is happening with HER OWN EYES. But no it must be the Thalmor. 🤔
I'm guessing her theory was that they brought Alduin back and since then Alduin has been raising other dragons, but even if that was her theory she had nothing to go on
No, no. Clearly the unholy demon wyvern must be someone's puppet. It's not like they've been indiscriminately burning down the whole of Skyrim, clearly they're working for one of the factions that they've also attacked likely more than once. It just makes total sense!
@@gRinchY-op5vr I mean... sure, but there were so many signs that it was a fallacy and there were other avenues she could've taken before immediately just stirring the hive's nest. She could've attempted to locate and contact Esbern beforehand and had a discussion on what to do, she could've researched other possible ways to figure out how the dragons are coming back. Her first response is boldly infiltrating the Thalmor embassy using one of the least subtle agents possible (literally every Nord in Skyrim is talking about you by that point). She was just using the dragons' return as a vehicle to attempt to carry out a petty revenge plot which realistically would've gone nowhere.
Delphine is the most annoying character in Skyrim. We are the Dragonborn in charge of our own destiny, yet she treats us nothing more than her pawn. She acts as if she’s the boss. Never have I ever killed My favorite green dragon bro because he’s chill as hell.
Yeah exactly aren’t the blades supposed to serve the emperor and the Dragonborn. I definitely remain oblivion the blades chanting “for the Dragonborn”!
Skyrim is interesting in how it uses the dragonborn (us) to see the politics and philosophies, and puts us front and center. Basically asking the player "what do you think?" People hate that skyrim gives you a class before you even begin lol but even with your status you're still not a divine or above their laws. Fallout new Vegas does this with its factions, if you trade or aren't neutral to the world if you pick sides the other side won't even talk to you, tribalism at its very nature. This is how I feel sometimes being a born again Christian and seeing how divided everyone is over secondary issues. But in skyrim we have allies, everything is handed to the player but Bethesda added a philosophy that many don't consider (the way of wisdom.) Basically becoming a scholar neutral to the world and its politics.
Imagine being able to soul trap Delphine and kill her, sending her soul to the Soul Cairn, where she will be hunted down and tormented by your undead dragon pal for eternity. That's my personal head canon, anyway.
That's what Console Commands are for, mah boi. Unmark her as "essential" (Talos knows she's anything but). Make sure you're carrying at least a couple of unfilled Black Soul Gems (One extra for the only witness, Esbern) Soul-trap Delphine, and tear her apart with no mercy, no remorse. (Just like how she shows no mercy for any and all dragons).
" we serve the dragonborn " " anyways, go kill that old dragon up there we don't like him. " " But I don't want to... " " Then you can't be part of our club >:( "
@Иван Иванов What? Not in this part, Dephine is MEANT to be like that, she is NOT the embodiement of the blades and she wasnt intended to be, shes a character that is meant to show you that just because shes a blade doesnt mean she will serve you, even though shes suppoused to, because she is focused on her own desires and wishes only.
after she told me that i stole Dragonbane and all of their blades armor, walked on all of the food they had on the table- and tried to kill Delphine. didn't work.
What's worse is that Delphine "warns" the dragonborn that the greybeards are manipulative. But the moment you beat Anduin and Paarthurnax has lost its usefulness, she tries to goad you into killing him. Massive hypocrite.
Arngeir had his opinions and didn't always see eye to eye with the Dragonborn, but in the end they ended up trusting you with Paarthurnax and were actually helpful throughout the story and beyond (he shows you words of power if you keep talking to him). Delphine on the other hand doesn't respect the fact that you carried her ass to Esbern, went along with her bullshit antics and defeated a World Devouring Dragon, and then gives you an ultimatum to betray the ones who actually took you seriously. She has absolutely zero nuance and it makes me want to yeet her off a cliff.
Ay, Delphine gets no credit for beating Alduin with me, I never went to them for help because I just trust the graybeards more, like there is the ancient order of chill dudes on a mountain, and then you have senile grandpa and power trip Karen, obvious choice imo@@eclecticwitch4515
“Is it better to be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?” I’ve always been amazed that a line like that made it into this game. It sounds like it’s straight out of a Platonic Dialogue or something.
I'll never forget how Delphine disrespected the Greybeards during the peace talks. One sneeze from Arngeir and she's dead. At least Esbern is very apologetic. That's why I only do the Main questline until Ustengrav and get a word of Become Ethereal.
I think Delphine was the biggest disaster in terms of character creation in this game. She single-handedly soured the players' perception of the Blades, which previously had been one of the most iconic factions in the franchise.
I think that's the point tho, to show the player just how far they had fallen after years of being beaten down and dabbed on by the Thalmor. Delphine is desperate to have a purpose in life again, so she clings to some ancient "dragon slayer" history of the Blades so her near-dead brotherhood has a reason to exist, rather than letting the Blades as an organization pass peacefully into history.
If TES6 is set in Hammerfell, I'd like to see The Blades again, perhaps rebranded as the Order of Talos, conducting resistance against the Aldmeri Dominion.
@@KnoxCarbon I just want to be able to unalive her ass. You know how many people would come back to Skyrim just to be able to put her in her place lmao
Yep, also one of the most annoying game mechanics is you can't kill Esbern and Delphine I tried, but it's impossible to do so, at least I can't cause I play on Xbox 360 which can't be modded
They essentially task you with single handedly rebuilding their entire organization while they themselves do absolutely nothing at Sky Haven Temple eating sweet rolls. You're meant to enlist a couple of followers into their ranks. It doesn't matter if they had orginally dedicated their whole life to becoming a student of the College of Winterhold or if they were the town drunk that you beat in a fistfight... they WILL drop everything they ever knew and everyone they've ever known and loved for no reason to dick around with the Blades when you bring them to Delphine. All of this effort is done with the intention of bolstering their numbers from 2, to a -pathetic- staggering 5 members strong. But that's not all! There are also RADIANT QUESTS to hunt dragons! ...please ignore that dragon lairs routinely respawn dragons and that there exist nearly a dozen of them.
@@YouWinAFREEiPOD Those dragon killing radiant quests are barely even any different from the same quests you can get from innkeepers and Jarls' stewards, the only difference is that at the end of the Blades' variant you get a special potion from Esbern that helps you fight dragons (it isn't bad, but it only works specifically against dragons and they aren't too difficult to fight). I think I'd rather work with the old hermits who tell me how to locate big boy words to take advantage of all the dragon souls I can barely even contain since dragons are an infinitely spawning resource.
Right? Even when I join the dark brotherhood and kill the Emperor and his niece and the guy who hired me to do it, I still don't have the heart to kill Paarthurnax.

they did fuckall in oblivion. let's remember that their grandmaster hid the amulet of kings in a god damn "hidden" room inside a chest, in a monastery with the only person capable of holding a weapon the right way being himself. the amulet would've literally been safer with the hero of kvatch inside the oblivion gate
@@ferrous1729 Not to mention Jauffre only sends the hero of Kvatch to get reinforcments for Bruma, and no one else. One person going from county to county dealing with each Oblivion gate is a massive setback. Especially when said person still needs to gather the items necessary to retrieve the amulet, that was lost by Jauffre in the first place. Honestly Jauffre is more to blame about the Oblivion crisis than the Mythic Dawn. And of course he did jackshit to stop it. The only people working to end it was the player and Martin.
How I would have written the questline: When confronted by Delphine, you can agree to kill Paarthurnax, and the quest plays out as normal. The Greybeards no longer allow you into High Hrothgar, Delphine will give the radiant dragonquests, and Esbern will give the radiant Word Wall quests since the Greybeards won't anymore. - OR - You refuse; Delphine makes a scene and tells you you're no longer welcome in Sky Haven Temple, to which you reply that if she thinks she can make the Dragonborn leave by force she's welcome to try. Esbern meekly interjects and tries to deescalate the argument, reminding Delphine that it is technically your temple, and that the Blades serve the Dragonborn, not the other way around. She makes even more of a scene, furious that Esbern would take "your side" even though he wants Paarthurnax dead, too. Delphine ultimately denounces what she now sees as a mockery of the Blades, basically saying "Fine, I'll find a way to do it myself" and leaves Sky Haven Temple. The quest updates, with the new objective being to tell Paarthurnax about what happened. You arrive at the Throat of the World and as you're talking to Paarthurnax, you're ambushed by Delphine and paralyzed so you can't intervene. She reveals her plan was to follow you since you and the Greybeards are the only ones who could open the path to him, and kill Paarthurnax herself while you're immobilized in the immediate vicinity, so that his soul will be devoured by you without your say in the matter. She begins attacking Paarthurnax while you helplessly watch, only Paarthurnax doesn't fight back--he just sits there and takes it. Delphine is confused and angrily asks why he isn't defending himself, to which he explains all the stuff he's told us, that he'd rather die than misue the Voice and perpetuate the misdeeds of the Dov against mankind. She figures fine, this just makes her job easier. She continues attacking, but suddenly stops before the killing blow; Paarthurnax asks her why she hesitates, and tells her to go on and finish it. Delphine finally decides that she can't do it, and Paarthurnax is spared. While the quest is coming to a close, you ask her if this means she's going back to join the Blades again, but she decides it's probably for the best that she goes her own way for a while--she's intrigued and inspired by Paarthurnax's reaction, and humbly asks to learn more about his and the Greybeards' philosophies, to which Paarthurnax accepts. From then on she's a recruitable follower who hangs out in High Hrothgar for the rest of the game, and Esbern becomes the new leader of the Blades and gives the radiant dragon quests. There, I fixed it.
@@what-oy8il That's the thing, it brings her character full circle much like Astrid where (before you arrive) they join the organization, eventually get to the ceo position, run everything into the ground and through a humiliating turn of events realize they fucked everything up. I like it. Alternatively Parthunax defends himself and defeats Delphine with little effort, but spares her and when she asks why he doesn't kill her Parthunax explains ger the meaning if the way of the voice.
@I am Spartacus! There's idiot jarls on both sides. But I think the imperial side has it somewhat better. Elisif is naive, but not stubborn and blind, and she takes the dangers threatening her hold serious. Just a bit too serious. Idgrod is relatively good and properly concerned about what transpires in Morthal. Igmund's role in the Markarth Incident doesn't put him in a good light, and he might share some responsibility for the Stormcloak uprising, but Ulfric's conduct was likewise nebulous and unflattering. Siddgeir is the only one who is outright bad for his hold and a contemptible man, but not to the extent of some Stormcloaks. And Balgruuf is the hero Skyrim deserves. A lord who isn't immediately skeptical of the dragon threat, protects and reassures his people, and supports the dragonborn without question. A welcome change from your typical fantasy lord. The Stormcloaks, on the other hand, have their leader Ulfric, who can't read between the lines to see the empire is stalling for time until the next Aldmeri attack, or see how his rebellion weakens them both in the face of the looming threat. Skald is a petty bigot. Laila's moniker 'law-giver' is a laughable misnomer when her hold is ruled by the Blackbriars. And Korir foolishly shuns the only institution that brings any visitors to his village and seeds distrust of it.
@@cdcdrr Have to admit I had to take a moment to remember who tf was Korir, the most insignificant of the jarls. Also, for all of Siddgeir's incompetence, he at least gets out of the way of the proper administrators of his hold, who seem to be doing their job.
I completely agree with everything, except the part about Esbern having to go up into Riften to get food. I just recently played through this part and the guy behind the bar in the Thieves' Guild stated that he's the one who's been running food to Esbern.

I think the Paarthurnax dilemma is a poorly written addition to the story. Maybe it serves as an excuse that Skyrim in general and especially the part it aims to fix is poorly written, but at the end I always just end up ignoring the quest.
Delphine: The Thalmor are our mortal enemies Dragonborn: let's go kill them then Delphine: eeeh no, go kill the dragon that made humanity survive Alduin.
Pretty much sums it up. The contradictions in her own statements are palpable. Major oversight by Bethesda for not giving the player more options at that point of the story.
Seriously they should've changed it to be eliminating Elenwhyn or someone similar to destroy the Thalmor once and for all and rebuild the empire to it's former glory, Ulfric might become more neutral to the empire afterwards but that's just my theory
Well, if the player is as paranoid as Delphine, they're, very likely, not going to trust Paarthurnax, so there should be no problem with killing him. ...and if they're not that paranoid, they're probably just sick of the Blades by the moment, so there should be no problem with sending the whole quest line to hell, cause... who in the world would want to hang out with those guys 🤷🏼♀️ So everyone has a choice. @Gab's I think that's your problem honestly. Some people just won't like certain games. There are objectively great games based on longevity and reviews and there will always be some person who hates it. RPGs require some imagination, creativity, and roleplay (duh). You're the type that needs a relatively linear story. In Skyrim, you can play the whole game going on radiant questions, selling pelts, and building a house without joining any faction or doing the main quest. There are new interesting factions like the cannibals (you can join) that I just discover and many interesting quests after years of playing. People just don't take their time and rush through things. They don't read the lore books in the game which makes things more interesting. They're shallow players.
You know what cracks me up!? A buddy in myself in the third to sixth grade created a world. That we would basically LARP in. The blades were a faction that we created. As we matured we felt that was a cheesy idea and didn't think it would fly with the people. Lo and behold here comes elder scrolls
I'll tell you what I did, I searched for Delphine and Esbern's id. Through console commands disabled their essential status and casted the soul trap spell on them, killed them and collected their souls. Now they both are nothing but show pieces by my bed in Whiterun.
Even better, with them being soul trapped you could literally visit them in the Soul Cairn and torment them for eternity. In fact, you could get your undead dragon friend there to torment them eternally. Delphine being hunted down by a dragon in hell for the rest of time... wouldn't that be satisfying af?
How about " Why Calixto Corrium is an idiot?" I mean he brazenly attacks women without trying to conceal his identity and leaves bodies lying around in Windhelm for anyone to find.
Yea but he's also a methodical serial killer that knows what he's doing He already killed 4 people w out being caught, giving a rough time to the guards, all while putting clues out there that incriminate the court mage... He's not exactly the biggest idiot there
Honestly, the lack of an option to spare Parthuunax shows how little Bethesda trusts the player to make their own story. Regardless of whether you kill Pathuunax or not, the fact that Delphine will want him dead remains a constant and will be a part of her character 'nuance'. But being incapable of skirting around her demands in any capacity is contradictory to the point of an RPG and only goes to show that Bethesda, in all likelihood, doesn't care about the player. It's one of the reasons why the Parthuunax Conundrum or whatever it's called was such an essential part of my load order that I had it in all my variations, because it allowed a more dynamic main story each time depending on the character I played.
Sometimes a story isn't meant to coddle the player and give them exactly what they want. It's more realistic. It's meant to be a tough and hard decision. It's meant to be sort of unfair. I don't think Bethesda gives a damn what players do with their story and I don't think they'd purposely place restrictions because some kid on his XBOX didn't make a choice they wanted them to make, lmao.

There IS an option to spare him. It's not killing him. Yes, you lose the support of the Blades, but Parthuunax is still alive. What you are talking about is the option to have both factions, thus rendering the choice obsolete. This isn't about not respecting the player, it's about you being inconvenienced.
@@SuddenReal That's why they should make you work for it. Like in Fallout New Vegas, only certain outcomes are possible if you do all the right things in prior quests beforehand and it should be the same here. There is literally no excuse for not doing this, especially when it increases replay value a thousand fold. It's bad writing, especially when telling the Blades you'll refuse killing Parthunaax warrants such a pathetic response from them, and forces us to break character. The fact it's only more evidence of the Blades using us rather than serving us only compounds the overall issue, making it sheer pain to experience over and over again. Stop defending this, you could at least demand better.
Dragonborn: ok we know that Alduin is resurrecting the dragons. How do we stop him Delphine: ok hear me out. You sneak into the thalmor embassy which is a heavily guarded area and find information about the dragons being resurrected Me: HAHAHAHAHA that’s a good one. Ok what’s the real plan. Delphine: that is the plan. So we have a man on the inside that can…. Me: wait wait. So you really think the thalmor are behind this Delphine: yes. Why wouldn’t they be Me: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Or a mod to drag her up the mountain for Paarthurnax to decide her fate For him to likely be merciful sparing her life to then be told by the dragonborn "the very dragon you wanted dead, just spared your life"
The thing I dislike about Delphine the most is when she says you would’ve been dead the moment you walked in here and when she calls you a fool for coming down in the basement if you question her. Like sorry Delphine I don’t think a shopkeeper in an organisation thats been dead for hundreds of years is much of a threat to a dragonborn.
Delphine was slowly manipulating and taunting the Dragonborn since Day 1. She never cared about the dragon crisis. Instead of stopping Alduin she was more focused about her own goals. An example is when Esbern was discussing Alduins Wall. She always gave you orders as if there couldn't be other options. That's why I left her at Sky Haven Temple. She was only getting in the way.
The very first quest you go on after finding Esbern, you're in this cave or dungeon or whatever, and he's all "Let's proceed with caution" and then as you're sneaking in to surprise enemies, he barrels in and starts attacking. I knew right then the guy was a moron and decided the Blades were idiots for making me do their stupid stuff. Then after you actually meet and learn from Paarthurnax, there's no way you can choose the Blades over him unless you too are a moron.
Since both seem so heroic and secret agent like, this is an absolutely brutal assessment of Delphine and Esbern that I hadn't considered before. Well done! All dragons are so beautiful in this game that I hate killing them anyway, so having Paarthurnax as a friend and mentor seems more noble than joining the Blades. In all my years of playing Skyrim, I have never killed Paarthurnax, or a mammoth and have only once completed the Civil War quest. Some choices in Skyrim box you into consequences that are disagreeable either way.
3rd Era Blades: "PROTECT THE EMPEROR! PROTECT THE DRAGON FIRES!" 4th Era Blade(s): "We don't really feel like protecting you, unless you do our bidding." Smh.
What I hate about the blades is that despite claiming to serve the Dragonborn all they do is boss you around and their isn't an option to tell them to get bent and do it themselves when they want you to execute Paarthax.
I'm not bout to kill parthunax he's my homie that and he turned on his own brother and trained the dragon born, that and talking to him is fun his way of being chill while talking to you and being straight up with you is awesome to me
when the blades ask the Dovahkiin to kill Paarthurnax it's because they're looking at the long-term because prior to the events of Skyrim the Dragons Were near Extinction meaning Paarthurnax had no corrupting influences from his fellow Dovah, but that's all changed when Alduin returned and begin resurrecting the deceased dovah which makes me doubt the Dovahkiin would be able to wipe them all out again in their lifetime (since the dovahkiin's canonical races likely nord) I think all the blade want to do is ensure the dovah don't have leadership. because when the Dovahkiin defeat Alduin the Dovah still have a general (Paarthurnax) to fall back on as someone who could lead them in taking back control over Skyrim.
@@mrheroprimes sure but after seeing what his brother did i doubt he'd go down that path, i mean why teach someone how to use a stronger shout then later turn on them try to kill them only to die doing so it would be pointless
That's the problem with making Paarthurnax nothing but lovable, well Delphine may as well be Peggy Hill. It's not really gonna be a question who people side with.
Delphine : Paarthurnax deserve to die , he killed hundred of people ! Dragonborn : lol .. * open inventory to see all the souls of his victims trapped in gems *
I stopped playing the first time (admittedly out of several playthroughs) when Delphine pulled the "kill Parthanax" BS on me, and the game refused to let me kill her or continue the Blades story line in any other way (this would have not been an issue, if up to this point, the Blades did NOT convince me at every turn that they were an organisation existing to serve the Dragonborn, that the Sky Haven Temple was created for the Dragonborn etc.) At this point, from a roleplaying perspective, my character deemed the Blades as much of a threat as Alduin, as they were attempting to directly attack and kill the only help humans have had against him. The game desperately needed to give the player the option to act upon this as the premise was literally set up for that. Thankfully there are mods that fixed the game in subsequent playthroughs - but this was a major oversight by Bethesda.
I've completed the Blade quests, and I've never killed Parthynax. After finding Alduins Wall I talked to Delphine before going to the Greybeards. Delphine can't ask you to kill Parthynax if you haven't met him yet.
The 5 best shouts are: Soul Tear, Summon Duunihvar, Fire Breath, Drain Vitality, Marked for Death. Unrelenting Force is only good until you get any of those 5
I joined them in Oblivion and was infuriated by their betrayal of the same oath I swore, to serve and protect those of the Dragon blood. If you doubt, look at how the Greybeards and Blades treat you throughout the game. The Greybeards teach you their philosophy, their worldview, but understand that you have your own will and drive and respect your choices even if they conflict with their values whilst the Blades basically treat you like a cross between a lackey and an attack dog, demanding much but sharing little, expecting you to blindly follow their orders and getting very huffy if you don't. You do all the heavy lifting for them (slay Sahloknir, break into the Thalmor Embassy, save Esbern's hide from the Thalmor, reopen Sky Haven Temple as a safe haven and begin restoring the order) and they have the audacity to command you to murder the one dragon that's on your side or else be labelled an enemy. Such ingratitude!
The Blades are the only guild that reunite Imperials, Storm Cloacks, The Thieves Guild, the Dawnguard, The Dark Brotherhood, Vampires and Werewolves under the same umbrella: hatred and despise. Hell, even Nazeem is better than Delphine!
in esberns defence he was hiding in stormcloak territory, underground aswell so the villagers wouldnt have seen him, but if he was really smart he should've just gone to windhelm and tried to stay close to the palace of the kings since thats the last place the thalmor would reach.
Definitely and only one out of the bunch that wasn't a complete idiot and actually good at his job. Dare I say it even a genius. I don't care if he had a little moon sugar addiction. Told you what you needed to hear and was always honest with your character. All I'll say is if Caius Cosades had been in charge of defending the emperor in Oblivion then the Mythic Dawn wouldn't have made it within 1000 feet of the Imperial city because of his information gathering network. Hero of Kvatch would still be sitting across from Valen Dreth getting his feelings hurt by his taunting. Caius for all his faults took his job seriously and in his area of responsibility had informants everywhere and in key positions to pass him information. The only one of his informants to get compromised was the priestess in Vivec that you had to break out of prison but that was after Caius had already been recalled due to politics and his drug habit. And even in that case Caius seems like he had a plan for if and when that happened because he told you exactly what to look for if she were snatched. Hell even the fall of the Blades against the Aldmeri dominion is telling. Every last operative the blades had in the dominion was compromised and killed. It doesn't even sound like the Blades planned for that possibility. But I think Caius would have planned for it and thought of counter measures at the very least. Caius flourished and got his job done in Morrowind with all the great houses seeking to cut each others throats and all the guilds trying to infiltrate each other and such. Not to mention the Morag Tong working. He had to be good at his job.
The neverine was a blade, as was the champion of cyrodil and i belive so was the agent in daggerfall id give one of them the best title unless including player characters is unfair
Because of how the Blades work, Delphine shouldn’t even technically be the leader, it SHOULD be you because as she herself said “The Blades serve the Dragonborn”
The blades: ahh yes we are hunted by the thalmors, who will soon invade the continent, but we have the dragonborn on our side, he will defeat them. Also the blades: lets order the dragonborn to kill one of his trainers and friends, he will surely accept, and if he doesn't, we will ban him.
My biggest thing with the blades is you can only recruit 3 members. Delphine says their objective is to protect the last dragonborn with their lives and hunt down all the dragons and decides 3 people is enough.
theres 3 things quest wise that i wish skyrim expanded on to far greater extent: - more whiterun orientated jarl balgruf quests. i always felt there was more for after i was sent to the greybeards as it felt that whiterun had a long story afterwards where you become a guard or captain fending off monsters and protecting jarl from assassins, a real thane but it just kinda ends. - being far more involved the with greybeards instead of the blades - THE ABILITY TO FUCKING KILL DELPHINE

All of this effort is done with the intention of bolstering their numbers from 2, to a -pathetic- staggering 5 members strong.

@@ferrous1729 Not to mention Jauffre only sends the hero of Kvatch to get reinforcments for Bruma, and no one else. One person going from county to county dealing with each Oblivion gate is a massive setback. Honestly Jauffre is more to blame about the Oblivion crisis than the Mythic Dawn. And of course he did jackshit to stop it. The only people working to end it was the player and Martin.
How I would have written the questline:
When confronted by Delphine, you can agree to kill Paarthurnax, and the quest plays out as normal. The Greybeards no longer allow you into High Hrothgar, Delphine will give the radiant dragonquests, and Esbern will give the radiant Word Wall quests since the Greybeards won't anymore.
- OR -
You refuse; Delphine makes a scene and tells you you're no longer welcome in Sky Haven Temple, to which you reply that if she thinks she can make the Dragonborn leave by force she's welcome to try.

@@Zerhapy The Problem is that the Game doesn’t give a single fuck about anything that happens, gameplay or story wise, so why should you?
Elder scrolls was created in 1993. 👀👀
I'll tell you what I did, I searched for Delphine and Esbern's id. Through console commands disabled their essential status and casted the soul trap spell on them, killed them and collected their souls. Now they both are nothing but show pieces by my bed in Whiterun.
They don't deserve that honor, though. Just shove them on a cabinet for good.
@@therogueserafim271 Yeah but they'll be constantly be in pain seeing me snore like a dragon. XD
Use their shouls to enchant a couple of shitty wooden swords, and then display those on your wall.
Even better, with them being soul trapped you could literally visit them in the Soul Cairn and torment them for eternity. In fact, you could get your undead dragon friend there to torment them eternally.
Delphine being hunted down by a dragon in hell for the rest of time... wouldn't that be satisfying af?
The Blades are rolling in their graves knowing that the last of their Order is an absolute idiot.

Yea but he's also a methodical serial killer that knows what he's doing

Reasons to not join Blades:
1. You have to murder an innocent dragon.
2. You murder an innocent dragon.
@@mewntay230 it's just lazier writing from a less emotionally invested team of devs. Cope all U want, the game still objectively sucks
@@mewntay230 ''Sometimes a story isn't meant to coddle the player and give them exactly what they want. It's more realistic. ''
Then give me the option to Kill Delphine, don't make her immortal. I will give her some ''realism''.
How do we stop him
Delphine: ok hear me out. You sneak into the thalmor embassy which is a heavily guarded area and find information about the dragons being resurrected

Delphine: that is the plan. So we have a man on the inside that can….

Delphine: yes. Why wouldn’t they be
Me: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Why wasn't the counter quest killing delphine
I wanted to so much
Same. Wouldn't have even hesitated to do that on the spot. She is actively betraying what she herself claimed blades were with that request.
Or a mod to drag her up the mountain for Paarthurnax to decide her fate
For him to likely be merciful sparing her life to then be told by the dragonborn "the very dragon you wanted dead, just spared your life"
The blades serve the dragonborn. The dragonborn calls the shots.
Delphine turns traitor.
The blades is not a faction in Skyrim it’s two bitter confused relics who can’t see the forest for the trees.
Just download the mod, that lets you put Delphine in her place.
The Blades serve the Dragonborn not the other way round as Delphine believes.
a relic of a bygone era , while the thalmor did clasify them as a threat to them that was before their almost systematic destruction of the order
It doesn't really change much but I'm pretty sure the barkeeper to the thieves guild said that he pays other people to bring him food
I always thought their should be a speech check to convince them not to kill Parthanax.
When you talk to Vekel The Man about Esbern, he tells you that he delivers food to a crazy old man in the ratway

Delphine literally watches Alduin ressurect a dragon and says "Da Talmurs must behind dis a durr!"
Why not to join the blades:
Paarthurnax. 'Nuff said.
PROTECT THE DRAGON FIRES!"
4th Era Blade(s): "We don't really feel like protecting you, unless you do our bidding."
Smh.
What I hate about the blades is that despite claiming to serve the Dragonborn all they do is boss you around and their isn't an option to tell them to get bent and do it themselves when they want you to execute Paarthax.
The Blades are so terrible in Skyrim that make me want to join the Thalmor.
Which is sadly true the blades are that stupid and bad they almost make you want to join em
Nah, the Thalmors are way worst
_Pelinor Whitestrake has entered the chat_
The Thalmor are insanely competent though. It'd be cool to join them. At least as a high elf for roleplay purposes.
I would, if given the option, join the Thalmor and destroy the Blades, then destroy the Thalmor from the inside.
Hating Paarthunax is like hating a man becuase when he was a baby he ate one lego piece from your great grandfather that you never knew

The blades are not only a joke as a faction but also one your character has to be some kind of evil to join
I tried to go to the Blades HQ and kill them all when they tried to make me kill Parthanax.
Imagine my disappointment when you can’t :(
I did the exact same thing and felt exactly the same disappointment LoL.
I think there's a console command that lets you unmark them as essential.
I stopped playing the first time (admittedly out of several playthroughs) when Delphine pulled the "kill Parthanax" BS on me, and the game refused to let me kill her or continue the Blades story line in any other way (this would have not been an issue, if up to this point, the Blades did NOT convince me at every turn that they were an organisation existing to serve the Dragonborn, that the Sky Haven Temple was created for the Dragonborn etc.)
At this point, from a roleplaying perspective, my character deemed the Blades as much of a threat as Alduin, as they were attempting to directly attack and kill the only help humans have had against him.
The Blades job is literally to serve the Dragonborn and they can’t even do that right
"It's over, Delphine! I have the moral high ground! Now get off my mountain before I fus-ro-dah you off it!"
I once saw Delphine die in her first Dragon Fight, laughed my ass off.
Joined the blades ,Kept paarthnax alive, Defeated alduin, Came back, Stole the cool armor, Ran away and never talked with them again🤙🤙
Someone should make a mod where the Graybeards will give you a quest to kill Delphine
I used to love the blades, because of their role in oblivion. However I’m glad they fell due to their own hubris
Have to just say, Caius Cosades is my favorite blade member
@Sorley Walker Ah shoot he's amazing too
Definitely and only one out of the bunch that wasn't a complete idiot and actually good at his job.

Note: You can do essentially EVERYTHING with the Blades before uncovering Paarthunax (The trigger for making her tell you to kill him)
My biggest thing with the blades is you can only recruit 3 members. Delphine says their objective is to protect the last dragonborn with their lives and hunt down all the dragons and decides 3 people is enough.
After defeating Alduin, my Dragonborn simply abandons the Blades, and moves on with their life.
